@@markhill9275 which year? Triple crown, 2 monuments, strade, 12 GT stages, 25 wins (24 at WT level) is better than any season merckx had in my view. Most people would put forth Merckx's 1972 season as his best. In my opinion the triple crown rather than a third monument makes Pog's season better. You can also consider the manner in which pog won throughout the year. Dominant across the board. 100km attack at world champs / 50km solo. Best climbing performances of all time at the TdF.

@@oneeleven9832 absolutely , 35 years for me and by far the best. this cycling's messi. hes most complete by a distance reminds me of blend of hinault, kelly, and lemond, or gilbert, valverde, and contador no other single rider comes close. vdp is one of if not best one day rider ever with marckx, de vlaemick imo, and its only he thats denied tadej in flanders 2 yrs ago and san remo last few. regardless of winner its vdp keeping tadej from msr. cant wait to see him race roubaix. tadej rides unicycle for fun its a joke how talented he is. agree 100% cheers!1

Last spring, I was a runner sidelined by injury, so I turned to cycling as a substitute. Now, I'm completely hooked on the sport and have even started following the big tours. What a time to witness the incredible achievements of such a talented and dedicated rider. Go Tadej!

I am not a cycling historian, and I don't I now much about Eddie Mercx career, but what I do know is Tadej is racing in an era that is setting records for the fastest average speeds, the most elevation, the toughest Grand Tour routes in history and he is winning and winning often and that makes him the fastest and most successful rider in history. He has to already be the GOAT, because the standard of racing is faster and better and more scientific than ever before in history and he is top dog.

That is entirely a different Era. No real competition either.. because back then half the Peloton was your local postmen from the neighbouring towns. You are comparing a 1970 Ferrari vs a 2024 and suggesting its better... As I'm sure you have seen.. Lombardia.. and the same can be said for TDF.. GIRO.. WRC.. Liege.. Montreal .. this alien makes the entire Peloton look like amateurs again and again.. entirely on another level all on his own.. thats why they refer to him as an alien.. he is built different.. . So yeah in this current Era.. he is the Goat and by a long way.. and one might think in terms of physical ability.. genes etc.. I watched Mercx and also Bernard Hino(The Badger) and they would never let Pogi break away solo.Those guys would rather drop dead than be treated like that.There are no huge egos anymore in the sport.Not as much fun.
