96 was not the first movie to use Ilayaraja songs! Before 96 released in 2018, many of his songs/music were being used since the 80s/90s including Subramanyapuram, Premam etc. As a SENIOR and the RARE genius that he is, he is only expecting them all to compose on their own - like IR composed for period films like Bharathi, Pazhassi Raja, MoghamuL etc. He has even composed 1950s/60s-style songs like "Naan sirithaal deepavali", "Aagaya vennilaave", "Paarijaatha poove" etc. WITHOUT using his predecessor's music. IR simply responded to a GENERIC question from Sudhir, the interviewer who quoted 96 as a "recent example". Even the interviewer did not mention the name of Govind Vasantha! IR also NEVER mentioned anybody or any movie. It was the interviewer who asked a question about people using his music in their movies, while quoting 96. The word "aaNmai" has multiple meanings including ABILITY, the word intended by IR. Music has nothing to do with that "interpreted" meaning of the word; you cannot compose with "that", but you can only compose using KNOWLEDGE / aesthetic sense!! Including his daughter, BhavathariNi, there have been many female composers too! IR does not watch recent movies, so there is no way he would have known 96 or Govind as its composer! He also said he stays away from reading newspapers too, since they have only been doing negative news about him since the 80s!

That tie-breaker vote by Balu Mahendra was akin to backstabbing, travesty of justice, favoritism, newcomer-sympathy voting and peer pressure from K. Balachander / Mani Ratnam (producer / director for Roja. KB had so much clout back then!) - all-in-one. It is ILAYARAJA's magnanimity that he still gave BM, albums like Marubadiyum, Sathi Leelavathi, Adhu Oru Kanaa Kaalam and until Thalaimuraigal, his last movie. All that melted to GUILT in BM's voice when he spoke at GVM's NEPV audio launch in 2012, with IR on stage, when BM said "I will come to you for few more projects. PLEASE accommodate me". That was the most heartfelt speech of all the directors assembled there. Anyway, that is why IR does not care about any award. வேலை செய்யும் இடத்தில் சம்பளம் வாங்கிகிரோம். ஆனால் யூனியன் வைத்துக்கொண்டு அட்டூழியம் சம்பளம் வாங்குகிராயே ஏன்டா யூனியன்.
