Not only one of the most emotional cello solos, but also one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard: Johannes Brahms - Piano Quartet No. 3 in c minor, Op. 60, 3rd movement Also: Robert Schumann - Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 47, 3rd movement Ludwig van Beethoven - Cello Sonata No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69, 1st movement Johannes Brahms - Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, Op. 8, 1st movement (I recommend the revised Version from 1891) Johannes Brahms - Piano Trio No 2. in C Major, Op. 87, 1st movement -> a variation of the first subject in D-Flat-Major, placed at the centre of the development section

Well, I broke while listening to your Uncle. He was certainly talented, and undoubtedly an inspiration to you, me, and so many others. Thank you for sharing something personal, open, and vulnerable. 🤎 You are a great source of education and inspiration for me on my cello journey. Thank you, Ilia.

It's impossible not to shed a tear, surrounded by such beautiful music that stirs the deepest of emotions. Music is the most powerful expression of art, transcending language barriers and speaking directly to the heart. And the cello, an incredible instrument, holds a unique expressiveness that, in the hands of a skillful and talented player, becomes unparalleled. Thank you for sharing this beauty.

Glad to see Rach sonata and Schumann on there. However, Don Quixote finale, swan lake solo, Brahms sonata and Shostakovich prelude should have been on there as well imo.

Great list! But that's "Apres un reve" by Faure in 6th, right?. Ir's one of my favourites and your uncle's play is incredible. I love the Elegy too by the way.

In like a 2 minutes of thinking (not musician, hobby player): kol nidrei(i know, its might be too famous, but still aaahh), Hans Christian Lumbye: Copenhague Steam Railway Galop intro (was playing with amateur orch.), Lisznyai Gábor: Ősz (autumn), haven't played these, but i wannarly try: the very end of the Anton Rubinstein: Cello Concerto No 2 in D minor, Op. 96 (but i think the whole cello concerto is so underrated, full of emotional ups and downs) I might be able to list so much more, but like who could not do that...

Saying "cello solos" is half clickbait and half misinformation. Especially considering pieces like Masnadieri, William Tell overture, etc., the real greatest solos of all time

No offense Ilya - but your uncle was an unbelievably sensitive and proficient cello soloist. I wish I’d known of him before now. Condolences. Also - please learn the Elgar!
