Dear Saab enthusiast. I live in Scandinavia, and I have just got myself a car from 2006 for a very good price, and you have really contributed to making this my very best experience in used vehicles ever. I really must congratulate you on your pedagogical approach to making all this accessible within reach of the average DIY person. All from junkyard scrapping to fine tuning the maddest hardware. You are the shit. Many thanks!

Hi, i had the same problems logicaly, i have always changed them with the original Bosch parts they would last for about a year or a bit more, but i listened to a guy saying that Beru coils were great so i decided to change them as i was really tierd of changing coils so i did with 6 new Beru ZSE174 coils, well it has been 5 years now never had a problem anymore. Cheers fron Italy

Hi again, i had the same issues, changed with Bosch coils but they do fail after a year o so, i have rechanged all of them with BERU ZSE174 coils, they are on for four years now no more issues with them. Money well spent i'd say. One more thing, Bosch coils made in Germany are lets say ok, the ones made in Slovenia, Hungery or China are junk

I have a problem with missfire on cold start. Changed plugs, coils, even timming chain. Missfire are full randomly, checked cylinders pressure and the only one worst was 9,5 bar's. Injectors clear and when car is hot sometimes had a little missfire on cylider 6 and car shakes very light, hard to feel. Any ideas? :( after cold start procedure missfires disapeard..

I have a very similar issue. Random miss on cold start, seems to affect cylinders 1-3 the most. Smoothes itself out after 5-10 seconds. No issues while driving or while engine is warm. Cannot figure it out.

I had random misfires on cold starts and it ended up being the MAF sensor.

PCV valve? I had same problem on hwy turned out to be bad PCV valve that was sucking in oil into cylinder 1&2. Peeking into intake manifold to see if there's excess oil is a good first check.

Hello, would Tech2 detect failing spark plugs, not only the coils? I've recently visited my friend with Tech2 with similar symptoms (jerky acceleration) but there were no misfires.
@WeakestofWeeks2 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't necessarily detect failing spark plugs, just which cylinder is causing misfires. Sometimes it can be tricky to track down as some coils work fine then when they get hot fail. If it's been awhile since your last tune up I'd recommend replacing all of the plugs, and wouldn't be a bad idea to put all new coils in the back 3 cylinders closet to the firewall. Ideally you'd want to replace them all but to save money and hassle you can sometimes get away with just doing half. Then if one of the used fronts is bad it's an easy replacement. Also misfires can be caused by numerous other things. If you still have poor acceleration after a tune up I'd look into the fuel system and injectors.

Hi, thanks for posting this! Quick question, where did you buy your tech 2 from? Been searching online and not really sure which is the right one.

On saab you need to use dielectric grease on the packs. Stops the pack issues. Most people no clue or dealers do on your service 👍
@WeakestofWeeks5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is a good idea!
@mustardstain504d63 жыл бұрын
The coils have dielectric grease in the boot from the manufacturer. Bosch coils are garbage. The Standard ignition Blue Streak coils are great. Dielectric grease only keeps the boot from sticking to the plug.

Hi I've got a saab 93 aero 2 ltr turbo 2002/3 , unfortunately I've a P0300 & an o2 sensor one bank one , the symptoms are flashing engine warning light (normally permanently on ) about 20seconds into idling , ive chainged plugs n coils & cleaned the lamdar , shes started (last two weeks ) to drink more oil , I opened the air intake by the filter box n it was dry but when I opened the lifetime filter it was sodden with oil !!! thats where I am just now , would you go for the turbo or towards the head First ? They can be a pain , but I love them . Thanks Andy

Even if all coils on these cars will eventually fail, the Bosch ones have been proven to last longer than any other OEM alternative. So you should definitely only use Bosch coils.
@caesar1709885 жыл бұрын
They were all oem coils . The saab part number is the short one on the bottom left . Guessing the ngk ones are just rebranded bosch . Thing to note : 06 ones made in Germany , later ones Slovenia. Gotta love that famed slovenian quality

I got a misfire on cylinder 4 of an 08 2.0T ... Swapped coil out with a new one; new spark plug; switched injectors; compression is good, but I still have a misfire... Any thoughts on what it might be... I'm aware of the valve issue on the 2.0T, but if this were the case why do I have compression on that cylinder? Is this an ECM issue, car has only 130000km

1-check the air intake hose going to turbo for cracks 2-check the "L" shaped vacuum line under the oil dip stick

Do you really need to clear misfire counters? On mine, I don’t get any history, I have to catch them real time.
@WeakestofWeeks5 жыл бұрын
So that will be one major difference between the tech 2 and a cheaper code reader. IF you're getting a misfire code then you can use the cheaper scanner to clear, switch to coil to dif cylinder then see if another misfire code appears in the switched cylinder. However, if no misfire code is present (like in my situation) then you will need scanner like a tech 2 to see real time misfires.

Stay away from Bosch new or used. Standard Ignition Blue Streak Coils are the answer ti frequent failures.
