3:40, they do sell harness bars to attach where the hoops are for the OEM seat belt, that works well. As for the safety with the 6 point harness, or any harness to add onto this, these only should be used on track with a helmet and neck restraint, with out those, your head will only be the moving piece and that alone can be deadly, the OEM seat belt as you kept in place works to keep the whole body moving, only down side to that is your head can hit the steering wheel if you have an aftermarket steering wheel. Just a risk we decide to take on that. Either way this is still a good video to go by when you plan to get a harness as well as your other videos.

Great point, the double-diagonal Hard Dog rollbar that I owned before has a separate harness bar. It angles back slightly between the upper seat-belt towers attachment points sandwiched between the rollbar mounts at that location. So ya the alignment of the shoulder belts was good as the harness bar isn't between the rear down-tubes like this one. I'll leave links in the description to those products for reference. Thanks!

Great video with great explanation of each step (yes, I know it's not meant to be an instructive installation video 😂). A really neat and tidy install - great attention detail (as always). I'm not sure how comfortable/practicable a bucket seat and race harness is on the street - so hopefully your mainly driving it at the track(?). More track videos to come...?

Another great video! That scene at the end is me trying to open the glove box after I strap myself into my harnesses...haha

Also don't forget to close the door before belting in ... the struggle's real! #racecar

Nice clear instructions very nice video, keep it up. Can you use a Hans device with stock seats, 3 point seatbelts and airbags for extra safety?
@mostlyuselessgarage Жыл бұрын
A traditional HANS device requires a harness, and a racing harness of course is not meant for use with the stock Miata seat (no shoulder harness holes). However, the Simpson Hybrid S HANS says it offers protection when used with 3 point belts and a compatible helmet. So yes you could use your stock belts and airbags with that model. As always do your own research, consult with your track day organization, and confirm for your application before making your buying decision. 👍 Great question thx!

@@mostlyuselessgarage Thanks for the reply, I was just wondering for my older daily driver without an passanger or side airbags. (I don't have a miata I have an older volkswagen group car):).

do you feel like the eyebolt weren't long enough for those holes? I'm doing the same with my Miata, and I see 2 lengths for eye bolts the shorter one and a much longer one. Is the short one you used sufficient?
@mostlyuselessgarage3 ай бұрын
Pretty sure I used the longer one into the chassis. I think the short ones are for the sub belt to seat bracket mount, which I didn't use (floor mounted). Hope that helps!

It seems there are allot of different ways to connect a harnesss to the roll cage, what get me is there all different, and if you get them wrong, and you have a bad crash, you could die. Is there not a universal way of connecting the harness to the roll cage which is correct. I would hate for someone to get this wrong as it really is the only thing saving them.

According to the harness manufacturer instructions they detail 2 methods: The way I did it or using weld-on harness tabs on your harness bar. Of course check with your race/track-day organization's technical regulations to ensure it will pass tech inspection.

You need to pad that rollbar.

The thought's crossed my mind, I've used SFI dual density in the past with good results. 👍

i hook mounts I don't like cause they can fold out of the way. it's like using a carabiner to hold something too heavy, but i mean I'm building something that I'd want to hold up from a hit from a transport. got some crack heads that like stealing from people, and when the people confront them, they try driving them over with the truck they have. so plan on beating them at their own game. they want to play chicken they're gonna be the ones losing.
