She actually seemed quite willing to engage in reasonable conversation. The best grounds for overturning this though were the ‘broken yellow lines’ mentioned in the video . If the lines are not continuous ; if there are gaps ; or if the terminations at the ends are not present then they do not meet the required standards and cannot be enforced .

I do not know the wording of the UK law, but in NZ it states that a driver is not permitted to park in an area marked with yellow lines and the centre of the road. If there is a gap in the lines that is shorter than the vehicle I would suggest that the driver is breaking the law.

@@BigDavie2000 it has been some years since I learned the highway code, but if some roadworks have been carried out and an area of the line has been removed as a result, would that make the entire length of the line unenforceable? In New Zealand the no stopping markings are broken yellow lines, if one line has been obscured but the vehicle is still parked in an area marked with BYL they are still committing the offence. If however a length of road markings are obscured it would not be reasonable to expect the driver to see them and they would not be issued to for that offence. At this time of the year leaves can fill the road edge and the same after heavy rain. I seem to recall that a single yellow line in the UK indicates an area that can not be stopped on at times indicated by signage. Is that still the case?

@Cerne so you are suggesting that if an armed robbery is taking place the police might need to circle the block a couple,e 9f times until they can find a legal park to attend the incident? Or park 3 blocks away and jog backwash their gear? Of course enforcement agencies have to be able to infringe in order to carry out their duties. Obviously they try to set a good example, but whenthe situation calls for it the officer needs to do whatever needs to be done. I have regularly parked in the bus lane in order to infringe vehicles in the bus lane often parking there for a period of time until the tow truck arrives to remove them.

As a parking officer in New Zealand, my perspective is the same as the officer here, as warranted enforcement officers we are permitted to park wherever we need on the public road to carry out our enforcement duties. However we are not permitted to park in private property. In NZ shopping mall car parks and those connected to business are considered private. That said we try to find a legal park where possible for the reason demonstrated here, that it is not a good look to park in a way that would be committing an offence to issue to a vehicle committing the same offence. However if we are patrolling the bus lane we need to pull up in the bus lane to issue, we use vehicles with beacons on, which are deployed when entering the lane. Likewise with long stretches of yellow lines, it may not be practicable to travel on to the end of the road markings and walk back and it may be necessary to park in those markings. My warant gives me the authority to direct a driver to remove a vehicle from the road and also to enter any vehicle parked on the road, so if necessary the vehicle can be broken into and towed away, we try to do this without damaging the vehicle.

@IrishSchaller if you are referring to parking on the bus lane, I would suggest that towing a vehicle that is parked on the bus lane is quite difficult if you don't also park on the bus lane directly in front of that vehicle. Parking beside the vehicle in the bus lane would then block both the bus lane and the live lane. Overall I would suggest it is the only way that that operation can take place.

I was a Taxi Driver in Lewes. We were always getting ticketed for doing our job , picking people up , assisting old and infirm , as laid down by the Council who employed The Numpties that were booking us . I was referring to when booked to picking up and assisting elderly infirm passengers from appointments , not taken advantage of rules for my own convenience. Also being ticketed when using a rank that I pay for by the wrong enforcement officers . I used Station ranks( British) and thus was governed by Transport Police not Council Private enforcement. I no longer persue this living as having had Cancer it was no longer viable. I too hated drivers that were rude and took liberties they gave all of us a bad name . With great respect and I hope accepted as meant .

in norway we have a different system no double yellow lines i think. but plases where its legal to park are markd with a white stripe-box on the asphalt and a blue sign with a white P on and we have 2 different NO PARKING SIGNS... A blue circle with a red X means no stopping ore parking at that place, often a plate under saying say 100 meter. a blue cfircle with a red line mens no parking, but you can stop to say take on a passanger.. AS for goods delivery most shops in norway have streetmarkings and signs making it legal for cars-lorrys to deliver goods even in say streets that are ment for walking people instead of cars ore there is a no parking sign.. but then there usually its a sign saying say: goods delivery from 0400 to 07-00, if ita busy shopping street where people walk all over the road, like say the main street in our capitol oslo.

"Council or government department carrying out statutory duties Council or government vehicles may park on certain restrictions in carrying out their statutory duties. This is a massive social problem in society, all over the western world, caused by GREED!!. Sorry, that doesn't work. I was on the M27, and could not find any where to park,due to traffic, I didn't have enough time toi get to the services. and my hours were up. I came off the Motorway, at Southampton Airport, I parked for 45 minutes on a single yellow line. A police car came up and told me to move, I explained I was out of hours and taking my legal break, He just laughed and I got a ticket for 60 quid. I went to the police station with my tacho, and was told they would not accept it as evidence as I could have forged it. They will accept a tachograph as evidence when it suits them.
