Band-Maid is always a FUN listen. They are so diverse. Saiki doesn't get a lot of mentions, but she is easily a top tier Japanese female vocalist. None of that typical high pitch squeal. Perfect for Band-Maid. All five members have such unbelievable synergy that it still amazes me. As it's been from day one. BAND-MAID FOREVER!!! Peace.

From Japan Thank you for your reaction to BAND MAID. Japan is also in a difficult situation due to the spread of COVIT-19 infection. BAND MAID is a genuine live rock band, but hasn't stood in front of the crowd for the past year and a half. There was a time when Kanami, the lead guitar, was mentally depressed. Among them, they are increasing their fans by performing live streaming 5 times. They are very close and help each other. There is BND MAID PRIME on their HP and it is a membership system, but there are many concerts and individual performance videos. Please see if you are interested. This performance is a live performance just before their self-restraint, which was held in February 2020. They haven't stood in front of the crowd ever since. They have released 17 songs on KZbin for fans they haven't met since. Please see any.

Thank you for sharing this information. I have been worried that their inability to perform "Live" may impact them negatively. I feel extremely grateful to them for all the joy and happiness they given to me and their "Maidiacs" around the world. The beautiful gift of About Us, showed a selfless generosity in putting us, their fans and our well-being in the spotlight and was for me, very humbling. The ability to give back is very restricted when you live so far away. I pray that they remain safe and happy.

@@paganrelic "About Us" gets me right in the feels, and you can tell from their performance from that streamed concert that they put all their feelings into it. Saiki wasn't just up there performing, she was speaking to us. There's a concept I see often in manga, usually around a love confession but not always, about how they want their feelings to reach the other person's heart. There's no question that that's what Band Maid intended with "About Us", and I think it's safe to say that they succeeded. Brilliantly.

You raised a good point that this kind of music/rock 'n roll is no longer heard today or hasn't been for decades. I've used the following sentence several times in the last few days, but I think it fits quite well. These ladies are the medicine and saviours of a genre that was thought to be dead. :) And if I had to give a recommendation for someone who pays attention to the voice, it would be their tracks 'Wonderland', 'Daydreaming' and/or 'About Us'. These 3 songs show the ladies from a slightly different side and especially with the latter two songs I recommend having a few tissues close by. Just in case, which has already been seen with others. :) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 「 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' 」- from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 🕊️

According to Kanami, Saiki comes up with a lot of the spots they do on stage. "Basically, our vocalist, Saiki, has ideas about how to perform on stage for live shows. Rather, she gives out orders. That applies to the battles we have on stage. Saiki gives out instructions, 'You two do something here!'"

As good as Band Maid are, what makes them even better is their humility. They really are just 5 goofy friends making great music together, which is why I love them even more. Next song??? Blooming, Daydreaming, Manners, Warning, Bubble, Don't let me down, Rinne, etc.....100+ songs. MISA.... the Bassist - she is a "hybrid" bass player, as in she usually plays with a pick (not always) and slaps.... often in the same phrase of music. she'll use the pick, then hold it with her index finger, then use her other fingers to "slap" the bass. it is so quick and sooo cool to see. I have NEVER seen a bass player do that before her. And how she plays her bass parts???? These young ladies are soooooo the real deal. I am so happy I found them when I did.

Saiki's voice comes alive, and wild on stage just as every members do! ... absolutely love Saiki's grit. She can belt, rap or use falsetto and little vibrato and... there are so many moments I think to myself "when the hell does she breathe?" Their songs are often vocally demanding, (sometimes lyrics and vocal lines have to be modified to make it humanly possible to sing 😆) Unfortunately Saiki's greatness is often overlooked or overshadowed by the insane instrumentation. So thank you, thank you for acknowledging it. 🥰 Have an awesome weekend!

I couldn't agree more with Lurkmerchant !!------yes, Saiki's singing transcends just about everything. Even these ridiculously gifted instrumentalists would nevertheless be without a certain rudder, or keel---or a supercharger, perhaps ---without their sublime vocalist !---not that each player could not make a killer solo all on her own----it's just that Saiki is a natural star on top---and the heart-beat within. Fabulous voice.

One song I would suggest is Puzzle, which has a couple of versions. There's the regular hard driving rock version and then a live performance with Kanami playing acoustic guitar and backing up Saiki on vocals. It's just the two of them, but it is so powerful. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any videos available of just the acoustic performance, but you can find the entire Zepp Tokyo 2018 concert on BiliBili. Puzzle starts around 48:40. Given their immense instrument skills not one of them is playing their first choice. Kanami, lead guitar is a concert level pianist and played acoustic guitar before electric, Misa, bass is also a painist, Akane, drums was a classical trombonist, guitarist before drums and Miku who formed the band is a singer but hadn't touched a guitar before the band was formed. Kanami has taught her to play along with everthing else. And singer Saiki has developed her voice and style beyond belief. Another thing - there are no egos. They are truly unique.

I didn't look at many of the other comments, but in case no one mentioned it, this was song 22 or 23 in a 24 song set. MISA looks a little out o gas, but she isn't missing a note. I love these five ladies. As for what to listen to next, I'd going to go off the beaten path that is their official channel and recommend "Clang" from a show in 2019 in Bochum, Germany. I'm picking "Clang" both because of its quality and because I appreciate the band more after seeing them play in front of small crowds where they don't have wireless systems, where the crowd is right there in front of them, and when it's just them and some basic lighting. It feels more intimate and more raw, and BAND-MAID shines. Here's the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/on3QYY2JZ9SHoJo If I may go outside of BAND-MAID, since you're a vocal coach, I would love to hear watch you think of a fairly new American band called Liliac. The band is composed of five siblings, two sisters and three brothers, and they play originals and covers. Their vocalist, Melody Cristea, has one of the most unique, powerful voices I've hard, and I don't think she's even twenty years old yet. My favorite original from them is called "Nothing," and the video of it was shot in their living room. The oldest silbing, guitarist Sam (Samuel), is their video editor. Liliac is starting to get noticed, and I think you'd really enjoy them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2HGgqxnmdl6e8U
