Given the non-stop screamfests that Beatles concerts became, the people of El Dorado may also have been the last Americans to actually *hear* a Beatle play live.

I had an opportunity to go see them live. I declined on the grounds that I wanted to really hear their music. I had seen live performances on TV. You could barely hear their singing at all. If someone had started screaming in my ear, I probably would have been sorely tempted to deck them. Painful ears at a concert is not my idea of a good time.

I just read the 2020 Smithsonian article about Harrison coming to Illinois. He bought the Rickenbacker guitar at Fenton Music Store, in Mt. Vernon, IL. (The town of Fenton, IL, is over 300 miles north, not ‘nearby’.)
@TheHistoryGuyChannel2 күн бұрын
Fair point. I apologize for the error.
@abcedertreetoo2 күн бұрын
@ You’re good. I’m not from the area. It just seemed odd to me that towns named Benton and Fenton would be near each other, so I looked into it and found the article (for which I have YOU thank for prompting me to find). I had never heard this fact about George before. And I appreciate your content a great deal!

In '61 ,, two of the Beatles hitch hiked to the West Country .One night , at least , in a pub , they were invited to play a couple of sings with the resident group.( It was , maybe still is , the way things were , then).
