It’s quite literally the largest railroad museum in the US. It’s a shame most of its fleet is in storage.

Which one do you mean? The Zephyr, or the 1630? Zephyr is allowed for mainline runs, the 1630 isn't and CAN'T really.

The silver one, the Zephyr, has in the past, however it was very expensive (had to pay Union Pacific to move it to Chicago, had to pay Amtrak and BNSF to use their tracks for the excursion) and likely won't happen again. As for the 1630, it's a bit too small for long excursions, and something to do with the wheel/flange size (it was originally gauged for Russian tracks) means it doesn't take mainline switches well
