Awesome, picked a few of these up on eBay for cheap and as the other viewer mentioned there is no documentation or hints that the light can be wired differently! Short and sweet demonstration videos like this are a fantastic resource, thank you.

I was looking at this switch (with seni transparent cover) and it's nice to see it in action. Cheers 👍

@@Ameridroid1 👍 I think transparent cover makes much more sense with the indicator LED. You can see whether it's on or not behind the cover

Thank you! Non of the sellers on eBay bother to even mention the way the led can be wired to either be constantly on or to only light up when the switch is flicked on. 👍

I know this video is old but I'm having issues with that same toggle switch. Wh3n I hook to usb board, either the light is always on and the button flip doesn't register on the windows joystick properties or the other way around. The usb encoder detects the switch flip but the light is not on

If you wired your switch like in the video, it should work the same way. However, it is possible the switch you have could be defective.

Hehe thanks for this!. I've literally just received some of these ( red, orange, green, blue ) and the very first one i tested...the LED wouldn't turn off when the switch was in the off position, and thought "oh..well maybe it's supposed to be like that, annoying but oh well" I never even thought to swap wires around pfft XD Also....one of the green flip covers exploded into pieces the first time i flipped it up! failed at the plastic hinge. I hope it's just a one off :S

hello sir just wanna ask, how do I wire this if I want to line it with pwrSw in computer motherboard, there are only 2pins for it in the motherboard. I just want it to have a couple toggle switch and then the main Power button., If i turn on all the toggle switch, it's only then the momentary power button should light up indicating that the circuit can be closed when pressed thus turning the pc on

Complete newbie here. Can I use this switch for a regular household light switch?
@Ameridroid14 жыл бұрын
This switch isn't rated for 120V AC, so we wouldn't recommend it.

What is the difference between a 3 wire 12 volt switch and a 2 wire 12 volt switch and can you use a 2 wire switch where there is 3 wires? I amwanting to change my switch for my fog lights to a waterproof one (motorcycle) and my old switch has 3 wires. Cheers and thanks for any input. I am a electrical newb.
@Ameridroid13 ай бұрын
A switch with 3 wires normally allows a different circuit to be activated depending on if the switch is in the up or down position. Some 3 wire switches also have a "center" position that doesn't activate either circuit. Because of this, you can't normally use a 2 wire switch in place of a 3 wire switch. The 2 wire switch can only activate one circuit, and only when it is in the "on" position.

When using this on a Raspberry Pi, how should you connect all the contacts to the GPIO/ground pins? For some reason, I only can see the input on the Pi and the LED lights up when the circuit is opened (I would think it should be the opposite). Thank you.

[Please note: We are not electronics engineers - please read comments from our helpful viewers (some of whom ARE electronics engineers!) for additional advice] If you look at the prototype board, think of that as the Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins. I'm going off the cuff here (not actually testing it), so make sure you verify before trying on your RPi. Hook the black wire from the switch to the ground GPIO pin on the RPi, the yellow wire to the input GPIO pin on the RPi, and the red pin to the 5V GPIO pin on the RPi. That should do the trick.

@@Ameridroid1 Thank you so much! One more quick question: I want to use it as a power switch and have to short a GPIO and ground. In the way you described, the switch connects the bottom contacts (going to GPIO input and 5v) and never shorts to ground. Is there a way I can short the input pin to ground?
@Ameridroid14 жыл бұрын
@@TheDinomite43 I'm sure there is a way, but it is Friday evening and my brain is fried. If I were to use it as a power switch, I would power the RPi through the GPIO header directly instead of using the USB-C or microUSB ports for power, like I show in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5KmpnyLiqx5fLc

If you have it wired up like in the video and it doesn't work, then the switch is defective.

If you don't like the presentation of the video, move on. There are many content creators out there. Or, take what you learned from this video and make your own video that doesn't include music, dancing girls, dithering or mumbling.
