For those that are still confused: the gold connector goes to a ground. The opposite connector on the switch goes to the battery or power source. The middle connector goes to whatever you're controlling, and in this case it's the light, so it would connect to the red power wire coming from the light he showed in the video. The switch will light up when you have it in the "on" position and the item you are powering up will also turn on. Hope that helps. Here is a good video that is much more clear - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnnHh3h8e5aJjpo FYI - Always use a good crimper so it makes nice crimps and not ugly loose ones like the ones in the video. Also, don't use the wrong color connector butts for the wire you are using - do the job right, especially if you're going to make a video to show others. Cheers.

I have a question, I used this switch, I cut the negative wire in half (it’s for a particle seperater on a side by side) I cut the negative in half and put one end on the gold and one end on the outter silver. Left the middle one blank. And it works when I turn the switch on it works and the led lights up. The middle pin is blank. I’m confused if it is safe? And why it still works? I’m just using 2 pins , the negative wire only. And the led still lights up.

Making up a 12v switch panel and been trying to find out how to wire up the switches. Have seen several videos from different people and they are all different, thank goodness I found yours because it’s the only one that I can follow and makes sense. Thank you.

Best video I’ve seen for wiring these switches as all others say have an extra wire for the ground from the light! I thought you could do it your way and you’ve confirmed it! Thanks!

nice instruction for us non electrical type gurus. Trying to add a fan switch that will be turned on when the ATV is being ridden. The oil cooler fan works when I apply direct battery to the red and black wires. I think though that I will need to run a fuse as well for extra protection.

I was a bit stumped by some of these that I bought. Tried using an ohmmeter to check continuity which just tested open no matter which pins I went across. Finally figured out the switch must be powered to work. I assume there is a tiny circuit board with a chip that closes to activate the switch. If someone knows how the electronics work please share, kind of curious.

Hi I’ve made one of the boxes with a main switch to power everything in the box but when it’s in the off position it’s still lit up but still works turning on and off the rest of the box is it an easy fix or a faulty switch?

a thin coat of clear nail polish or similar like acrylic will fix/smooth the scratched top. heat polish in hot water bath, clean area with brush and alcohol first.

I was looking for help wiring an illuminated switch to a USB charger for my motorcycle, and this is exactly what I was looking for. I only have one question though. Why do you need an illuminated switch when it is so close to the actual light which it is operating? The light being on would be enough to show you that it's, well, on. Thanks all the same.

None, just don't hook up the ground, it's only purpose is for the LED.
@229Reaper2 жыл бұрын
if you want the led of the switch to stay On all the time wich wire you need or don't need?
@giork2828 Жыл бұрын
You swap the live and load wires (on the 2 white connectors). That way power always goes to the switch LED, comes off thru the bottom pin (to the bulb) once you switch the switch ON.
@AutodidactEngineer2 жыл бұрын
I wonder why didn't you just bridge the ground and positive for the LED without using the extended cable?
@yawmbox3 жыл бұрын
Nice work. Can you post the link of the tiny led lamp?
I used one as a on/off switch and just used the outter 2 pins, I can’t figure out why it worked and if it’s safe?
@logicplagueАй бұрын
I could be wrong, but I don't thing the two positives matter which one is which, so long as you don't hook either of them up to the ground, it's basically just connecting the two wires.

@@MrMeltedwellies I'll tell you what it is Mark, I'm running an led light bar on my truck, using a standard cheap relay off ebay, and using a switch off amazon, the switch seems to require 3 wires going into the back as I'm sure you know, for some reason wether the switch is in the on or off position the led light in the switch is still on, i was hoping there was a way so that the led light wasn't on at all really. Sam

Watch at 7:05 (or 8:00) to learn how the switch works. If you connect your negative straight to the accessory (leaving the golden pin on the switch untouched), that switch LED will never be ON.

This is incorrect. It will work but it’s wrong. Gold is ground. Middle is positive input. The other outer prong is your output to the accessory.
