Not as dangerous at it might appear. Now had he emulated the guy that went up in a party balloon-powered deckchair with no oxygen, no parachute, no safety harness while pretending to be simply holding the balloon in his hand, no two-year training and two-way comms and huge ground crew, I'd be impressed. As it is, just looks like a rich guy indulging himself and having fun.

Nope, to do with what they carried. The big ones carry 15 lbs and the little ones 2 lbs. So the 52 Balloons were required to lift him and all the Equipment.

Even more impressive, some whacko without the PR machine of David Blaine tied balloons to his deckchair and went up for a ride. And he _did_ get down by shooting balloons with a rifle he'd brought along for that purpose! No oxygen, no safely harness, no years of training and no huge back-up crew. That's the real deal.

I watched it live on KZbin and it was awesome! David was not holding the helium balloons he was tethered to them with a harness which he manually disconnected from and parachuted to ground.

He was very securely tethered to those balloons. He would of never fell. Before he did this he was more worried about floating too high and passing out and floating even higher and freezing and dying. But he and his team did a lot of work on this.

That was actually done in the 1990s by a guy the press dubbed "Lawn Chair Larry". The trouble is that a parachute can be steered during descent, while balloons just go wherever the wind takes you. Lawn Chair Larry almost got electrocuted by power lines on the way down, and was so traumatized by the experience that he committed suicide a few years later.

You must not know who David Blaine is, you should google him. He is inspired by Houdini, who was about concuring what we think the body can do. Can you hang out at 20,000 feet without oxygen? Or go 44 days without food under water? Or be buried for 6 days?

Yrs, it is the novelty of flying with balloons. It’s his lifelong dream since childhood and he wanted something beautiful to show his daughter as opposed to his usual scary stunts. Yes average skydivers can do it, but the difference is, they didn’t. That’s why he’s the one getting credit.
