Helen - you are a star! You're right - I would never have thought of this way to create this pattern. Thank you!

Hello Ms. Bradley. I wanted to know if you have a tutorial of this fan shape (scallop) which I can integrate flowers into the shape and not lines as you have them. Love this I just am looking to integrate my flowers into scallop shapes.thank you!

Wow. That was amazing. I’ve been struggling to get a decent looking, stylized, abstract, fish scale pattern and this lovely fan shape pattern is a great learning tool and jumping-off point. My previous attempts (but utilizing a diamond-shaped version for the abstract fish scale pattern), were hideous. I tried at least 3 different methods and none of them looked good enough. (I also wanted that slight overlap you created with this fan shape pattern, so I couldn’t use a regular diamond repeating pattern). The finished pattern will also have to be warped slightly to fit into a wide, rectangular decorative shape, (as in your tutorial about applying a pattern to a real world object). I think I can see light at the end of this design tunnel. Thanks Helen!

Awesome news Pat. I am so glad that this pattern helped you see a way to solving your own design dilemma. If you ever need help just give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.

Helen Bradley Thanks Helen, I do have a few questions about some AI things I’m having trouble with. I always refer back to your videos if it’s something that I think was covered already and try to figure it out on my own, but I am unsure how to progress with some smaller parts of a larger design. Definitely a “Design Dilemma”!

Ms Bradley I tried this pattern and it looks great. I scaled it to check for any discrepancies and there were none. Somehow when I exported to Spoonflower, there was a break in the pattern as though the edges overlapped at the boundaries. Any help or advice would be great! Thanks!

How did you export the pattern for Spoonflower? Did you simply take a document filled with the pattern or did you actually export the pattern swatch itself. It’s really important to use the pattern swatch. For that check out my other videos. I have videos on exporting patterns from illustrator to Spoonflower. They should point you in the right direction.
