Setting everything else aside, this show has an insane production value. Animation, effects, choreography, soundwork, music and voiceacting are on point. Further ignoring the story, the world building is some of the best you'll find everywhere, just enough for you to know exactly what's going on and what consequences each and every action has and not so much that you get that boring lore dump many stories call world building. The world also feels incredibly alive, because there's always something going on in the background and the world doesn't stop for the main interaction we're watching, making it feel incredibly dynamic. Consequences always feel real, cause yes, this building was destroyed in episode 8, so it's still destroyed in episode 20, but there's construction equipment lying around and noone even mentions it at all. Yes, this person was killed, their loved ones are gonna change. Yes there was a disaster, so relief equipment and personnel will be there. Still ignoring the story, the characters are great and unlike many other anime, this one doesn't try to stamp the character with a personality type and be done with it, until it does so deliberately and for a specific purpose. The goals and motivations of every character are clear and understandably influence their actions. The story is good as well, though that is always a matter of preference, so I won't try to explain why it is good (I'm also bad at that). It's not just the king of bad isekai, it's also not a cheap fastfood thing (though there isn't another story I've heard of in which fastfood has such a profound meaning as in this one). It's simply a great anime. It's still filled with tropes and doubles down on many of them, but that never detracts from the story, because they are believably intertwined with the world and make sense. It's also always good to pay attention to characternames in this show. As anyone who ever tried writing a story knows, coming up with names for your characters is a hassle. The author of Eminence in Shadow decided to make it into a joke. There's the MC's best friends: Skel Leton and Po Tato, one of the antagonists Perv Asshat and lots of minor characters like Toppe Batterius or Immatry Nottaloos. I could go on and on, but I'm seriously not good at recommending stuff. It's not the greatest anime of all time. But, if I'm completely honest, it's one of my favorites. EDIT: It's also better than Slime, by the way. Slime's a great manga, but the anime was always a little meh. Not sure about Re: Zero, I dropped that one after two episodes cause the lack of consequences bothered me (heard it's real psychological and everything, it just didn't grip me)... I just don't deal with timeloop stories well. Mushoku Tensei's great, if I were objective I'd probably rate it around the level of Eminence in Shadow, but the music is just a bit too forgettable for me to consider it a top show.

MT's writing also gets worse later on imo. Ofc MT fans will disagree but that's just me. EDIT: Not talking about lore, MT got that on lock. I'm talking about character writing and not side but main ones like Sylphy and Eris.

This was a solid watch. Sure it prob wouldn't get you as it would for an isekai junkie.. but as someone who also doesn't watch alot of isekai (but knows enough of anime tropes in general), this was still entertaining for me. I just allowed myself to enjoy the cringe cheesy epicness of it all. That's what it all comes down to, really. Its just really refeshing to me, to find an op isekai protag who has reason and motive to be as strong as they are. Typically these isekai protags would be unhealthy neets and weebs, so it just feels weird seeing them be op for no reason. So to see a protag who actually has training his whole life in his original world with every reason to be as strong as he is in the new isekai just ticks that box for me. It also helps that Cid is one entertaining yet scarily insane character to follow. He's a chuunibiyou, but his dedication to the act is crazy. Guy gives no fks about the world around him and is only interested in looking cool and acting out all his anime power fantasies. His passion towards achieving his dreams is admirable... but damn.
@danielantony18822 ай бұрын
Passion towards dream and chūnibyō is an oxymoron. Chūnibyō is an archetype of 8th graders who act out delusional fantasies and have no power to back them up, not to mention, they give up on their aspiration for heroes when faced with the reality. Examples of chūnibyō archetypes are ones with “The Evil Eye,” who use eye patches to “seal away the evil within.” There is also the one with the “Left Arm of The Devil,” where they once again, “have a devil sealed in their arm.” In actuality though, those characters have no real or practical power, and their trope in Anime consists entirely of folly and false grandeur. And as the saying goes, “they are all talk, no bark.” Kágeno Minorú is the polar opposite of that archetype, and even the name of his original hero-like persona, Káge no Jitsuryokúsha, is a reference to that fact if you pay attention to it. His entire point as a character relies on the fact that he believes in the supremacy of real and practical power-Jitsuryokú. That is what makes his words carry weight while the chūnibyōs’ words carry none. His story is a direct thematic continuation and in-depth immersion into the entire topic of “the aspiration for heroes,” while most other stories with chūnibyō end on the chūnibyō phase itself.

Not even remotely true when it comes to me. My favorite anime and stories are usually very psychological (psycho pass, id: invaded, death note, steins; gate ect) I love to think when I watch. Mushoku Tensei is a really good story but not something I would openly recommend to anybody. The story is the godfather of all isekai stories because most of them are inspired by Mushoku Tensei. It really has good world-building and character development but I know some people will be rightfully justified to feel uncomfortable with the series' first arcs for reasons relating to the personality of the main character. It really is a great story about actually redoing your life and becoming a better version of yourself. The story started with the main character at their lowest and you'll see his growth throughout the series as a person. It is good because you can tell that the story and the anime itself are filled with passion as Studio Bind, the animation studio behind the series adaptation, was solely created to make an adaptation of the novel of Mushoku Tensei.

The edgy is intentional, i cringe at some part but still found it funny and cool. The anime is aware of the edginess. The final episode is amazing. I'm surprised by the direction of this anime. It kinda like One Punch Man where the MC is OP and just goofing around while the side characters have serious lore. Hype for the next season! Simplest thing to fix anyone's problem with isekai series, just forget that MC got into another world and then anime will automatically become just a simply fantasy. No matter what you think or say, there will be total trash series in every genre like shounen or mahou shoujou or whatever, but same goes for great series too. First watch, then judge, and soooo many forget this simple fact.
@BalrogQuote Жыл бұрын
But like, one of the biggest issues with a lot of isekai is the fact that the whole `another world` thing rarely matters, and it ends up just being fantasy, making it almost entirely pointless that it's an isekai.
@ilmaripajola4387 Жыл бұрын
@@BalrogQuote But complaining about amount of isekai series wont fix anything now will it huh. My point is that there are good series that work and bad ones that don't, and the amount of series in a genre shouldn't be a factor to decide that the whole genre is bad.
@BalrogQuote Жыл бұрын
@@ilmaripajola4387 Where did the amount thing come from? That wasn't in your initial comment or mine. I just think most isekai don't make the best use of their setting, which is all isekai really describes. It's less a genre, and more a tag. Like, it's just, if you're going to make it about a person going to another world, make that matter beyond an excuse to exposit, which is all it amounts to for a good amount. Some certainly do, and within those, there are certainly still bad ones, but at least it's doing SOMETHING with the setting.

"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks; but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." - Bruce Lee Eminence doesn't do something new to distinguish itself from other Isekai. It takes one thing that most Isekai have already done to death, then does it _so hard_ that it loops clear back around to awesome again. Bullshit Power Fantasy is the "one kick" that Eminence has practiced not just 10,000 times, but 100,000 times. i completely agree with you saying shounen and other genres has been way oversaturated than the isekai genre since the start. it really is just people nitpicking the bad things in it only. and you wonder why you see so many people are like that compared to the other genres that has been oversaturated as well? that's because isekai is fun and has so much potential that people would find enjoyable is why people are hating so much on the trash isekais. like you dont see people trash talk about the tens of recent subpar shounen or romcom that came out the past few years and thats mainly because the isekai genre came out on those years and became popular. so in conclusion people are really just overhyping themself in expectation of a good isekai and just get disappointed with a subpar one. which shouldn't actually be a surprise as it happens with the other genres also, just people dont talk about them. also btw, one punch man is a seinen and not a shounen just to let you know.
