The Biskit incident reminds me of the time when I reset my new horizons town only to regret it due to how attached I was to all my villagers and I cried for an hour. And the most heartbreaking part for me was that this happened a few months ago on my 16th birthday, so the last memory of my villagers was watching my fave ones dancing around Raymond's house humming the town tune (aka the Sailor Moon theme) and giving me cupcakes.

When I was younger, my parents discovered this gem of a game series for me. See, my father growing up never owned a Game Cube, as there weren’t any games on there that really piqued her interest. She saw Animal Crossing as that of a “child’s game” and wasn’t interested. My mom was too poor to own any high quality game systems at the time, but still was never taken in by Animal Crossing. However, AC games kept popping up, and my parents (Dad especially, who played most of the video games in our household) weren’t really interested. When they had me, things changed. They saw my bubbly, animal loving nature, so one summer, they decided to buy me Animal Crossing: New Leaf to keep me entertained on the long trip ahead of us. I was obsessed. Absolutely obsessed. But, similar to Illy’s case, I was a stupid child and had no idea how to play the game. We were staying at a friends house when I really started digging into it, figuring out controls and whatnot. Once again, being the stupid child I was, I filled my town with a bunch of random villagers. I got annoyed with the fact that I had all these useless humans crowding the village, so I walked downstairs to ask my mom for help. My mother ended up accidentally deleting my save file, destroying the entire two days worth of work I had done. I was mad for about two minutes, before thanking my mom and starting up the brand new town, beach1. This is when I met her. The small, blue bear cub with rosy cheeks and dark blue hair with the *very* creative name of Bluebear. Bluebear was the only thing I cared about in that village. It didn’t matter how many times the residents pestered me about weeds, or asked me to deliver presents, I could’ve cared less about them. Bluebear was my Animal Crossing goddess, more so than Serena or Farley could ever be. You see, I used to wrap up my most prized possessions and place them around Bluebear’s house. I always hoped she would take them, but she never did. One late summer evening, I was on my daily (sometimes hourly) stroll to Bluebear’s house, when I discovered something peculiar. Instead of seeing Bluebear’s home in its usual place, There was a patch of dirt and a trail of golden wrapping paper. Bluebear had left beach1 without even the slightest bit notice. There was no letter, no goodbye, no “I’d like to leave beach1, beachgrl!”, nothing. Now, as I hadn’t really dealt with villagers leaving before, it was quite possible that I accidentally told her to leave. But even still, I was heartbroken. I refused to play the game for ages. All those days of catching fireflies and traveling to Tortimer island, gone. I didn’t care. I didn’t want to. Eventually, my parents convinced me to pick up the game again, after playing it a bit themselves. And even though I still didn’t really know how to play the game, I was no longer playing solely for the villagers. And what a difference that made. For a long time, things were good. I tried to keep as many original villagers around as possible, though that failed. But still, life on beach1 was lovely. And nothing could go wrong. Until the day my 3ds broke. It was out of nowhere, but suddenly, after 7 good years, it decided to die on me. I bought a new system, and with my dad’s help, transferred all my data onto it. But when I booted up my downloaded copy of ACNL, something was off. The data didn’t transfer over. In fact, it was missing completely. Go figure that the one game I cared about the most happened to be the one to disappear. From that day forward, something in me was missing. The only real memories I had of beach1 were the poorly taken photos I had taken on my 3ds as a young child. I’m still broken up about it, but I knew that somewhere, somehow, the town’s legacy would live on. And my father made sure of that with our family copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. To whomever read all the way through, thank you. I appreciate the fact that you cared enough to stick with it.
