Microsoft was a dick during the Xbox days and even tried to forcely sell you a kinect along with the next generation of consoles just because they could. As a boomer gamer, it sucks to see this happen. It sucked with the Wii, it sucked with the PSP, it sucked with the OG Xbox, it will suck with the PS3 and Vita (yes, it will happen, they just delayed their decision), it will suck with the Xbox 360 whenever it happens. I just hope consumers realize that when they buy digital games (as I do sometimes) you DON'T OWN anything. They're rentals, pure and simple. And by continuing to do so, you're giving "permission" to these companies to take these away from you when they so desire or, in this particular case, when they see it's not profitable enough anymore, like maintaining digital shops open for commercially dead consoles. Consumers have to realize that they're dealing with corporations, and the goal of a corporation is to generate profit, period. So the only way we can make them reverse decisions like this is voting with our wallets, cuz that's the only "language" they care about. The launch of the Xbox One should serve as an example to all of us: consumers didn't like what they were offering, therefore, they didn't pre-order the consoles. Microsoft didn't see its bank account grow, guess what, they made important changes to accomodate to consumer's demands. Nintendo feels they don't need to change their MO because consumers keep "rewarding" them with money. Neither Nintendo, nor Sony, nor Microsoft are our friends, they're corporations and as such their first priority will always be generating profit, so their decisions will always be made with that in mind first and the "morals" and "ethics" always will come second. The way to fight this would be to support physical content when you can, but, quite frankly, it might be too late for that, since the digital era is upon us because most consumers prefer to buy digital all the time just because they're too lazy to get their butts off the couch or off the chair and change a disc or a cartridge. All I have to say about this is "you reap what you sow". Support physical media when you can, support your local shops. That's how video games are preserved. Regarding piracy, my point of view is a fairly simple one: these games that are disappearing from the shops (I mean the digitally exclusive ones), go ahead and pirate them, I would do the same. Sorry for the long rant.

modding the 3DS and Wii U is so easy now the chances of bricking are extremely near zero, probably even zero. I think the shutdown is coming way too early. I mean, I knew it was coming eventually, but I expected at least another year or two before they would announce something like this. I still like to use my 3ds, and even my wii u on occasion. I wouldn't have much of a problem with the shutdown, if they offered some sort of alternative. After the shutdown, there won't be any legal way to buy wii, wii u, ds, and gameboy games aside from going to a retro store. And there's been no support for the GameCube from Nintendo for over 10 years now, aside from them porting sunshine to the switch for half a year. If Nintendo cares so much about people emulating games, then they should provide a legal way to play all of those games they have in their library. There isn't any other option to play these, other than paying a fortune for some games, with Nintendo not seeing a profit from the sales. It's just too frustrating

This got me thinking, I hate how Nintendo doesn’t remove the software from the home menu whenever they discontinue it. Like the Miiverse icon still present on on the top of the 3ds (bottom of the wii u), or the Nintendo Zone icon, both of which just say “This service has been discontinued” when you tap on them. They’re taking up unnecessary space and Nintendo ought to just release a software update that removes their icons from the home menu.

I love Nintendo GAMES. Nintendo games are some of the best in the industry in my opinion. The company is horrible at figuring out what their audience really wants, and they're hit or miss with their business practices, which can be really questionable sometimes. For example, releasing DLC for their bestselling game instead of making a new one is a brilliant idea, however releasing a successor to wii sports and not bundling it in with the console, or advertising Miis in ANY way certainly isn't. Miis were what gave wii sports an identity, and promoting these soulless faces isn't going to do any good for sales. Regardless, playing games from old series is important for Nintendo's customers to really understand the newer games that are released on switch, not to mention a lot of them are extremely fun. Pikmin is my favorite Nintendo series, but I didn't get a shot to play the first two games as I never owned anything before the Wii. They aren't available to me in any way shape or form, but I really want to play those highly regarded games. I don't want to buy the 50 buck expansion just to play them when future consoles and new games inevitably come to the expansion. If Nintendo doesn't understand that paying 50 dollars a year to get random glitchy N64 games and some DLC they might not care about is a bad idea, then shame on them.

Gonna start buying as many of these games as I can realistically afford. Just bought a bunch of 3DS eShop games tonight (the Kirby spinoffs based on subgames from Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, Gen 2 Pokemon + Dream Radar, and Super Mario Land + Bros Deluxe), hopefully I can nab most of the ones I've been meaning to play at some point in my life before it all ends.

I'm so pissed and unhappy with this! It feels way too early to do this and the Wii U and 3DS share the same Nintendo Network as the switch! This is such a bad decision on Nintendo's part! I wish a copyright law would get introduced that made piracy legal for games/movies/music ect that have no way to legally buy them. That would mean games like Legend of Zelda 4 swords anniversary edition, the transformers games, and the eshop exclusives legal to play. It would also deter companies from shutting down their stores. Unfortunately this probably will never happen.
@timwolfel6592 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t mind about it. I only had a 3Ds and I bought the Gameboy Pokémon games and some nes Mario bros 3. To me this also has an advantage because Pokémon bank becomes free now. It wouldn’t make sense to „reopen“ a virtual console part in the eshop because there are already many retro games from nes over genesis and even TG16. They should expand this library but „virtual console“ as a brand even in regard of NSW Online doesn’t make sense anymore.

While I don't mind the 3DS/Wii U eShops closing, I do have to say things like this: Why not port Xenoblade Chronicles X? How about eventually making other 3DS games reworked for Switch (like say...Fire Emblem Awakening for example)? Even aside from just mere ports of classic titles, I also think that VC is just superior to NSO in every category. Especially price. However, I can see why they wouldn't do it that way. They wouldn't generate as much profit otherwise. Especially when VC offered MORE for an affordable and honest deal. As for liking Nintendo, I mean, as a F-Zero fan it's extremely difficult. As a Nintendo fan in general, however, there isn't as much to criticize them on unlike prior years. Not saying they're completely spotless, but they have done some better moves. Yet, they still have work to do. One last thing. Emulation on other systems such as PC is one of the smartest options as a gamer. We don't have to settle for less when it comes to even Nintendo. Especially when they can't even emulate their own games right.
@weberman1732 жыл бұрын
Money They mentioned once iirc taht xenoblade X would be a pretty hefty time and resource investment to port, as they would need to rework some of the mechanics like the frontiernav Trust me i wish XCX came to switch, but i get that it will likely not be a financialy sound decision for example and 3DS titles are even trickier as in case of the wii u games they woudl need to get the engine to run on the switch(which often times already does, XCX for example uses the engine that was later used in XC2 and torna) and otherwise its just touching up textures and somemodels 3DS titles would need to be more fundamentaly reworked and updated. And for the average consumer the NSO is af ar better deal then the VC ever was, especialy as many people play a game once,maybe twice, and never again, especialy retro games

i really don't know what to say. this is another problem i have now hares why this era stinks. Nintendo is shutting down these eshops, making so many games not available. AND having to resort to emulation. which we all know what's going to happen then. the only comeback for Wii sports is ruined, and i lost all interest. and my other point is that so many games are unfinished and make people lose interest so fast. online is still terrible in my opinion and it doesn't even have half the amount of games we used to have.
