This is the brilliant Bobby Darin impersonating many Hollywood stars on one of his TV specials!

Not only is he impersonating all of these stars so well, he's also "singing" the song's lyrics as all the stars throughout. A creative genius.

The most under-appreciated entertainer in the last 100 years. He excelled at most pop genres and was the ultimate showman. Had he lived a normal life span, would have more than likely became a top tier film actor in his later years.

The next Sinatra or Martin....yeah, that was a good possibility, as was a long running sitcom with the right idea, though that might have been just too much of a strain for him. The guy had all that potential but ill health put paid to it. It's amazing that he'd still complete shows with oxygen bottles in the wings, what a trouper.

It is little known, but he was an excellent chess player. One of the last projects of his life was to create and sponsor what he thought would be the greatest Chess tournament of all time. The plan was to invite Fischer, Mecking, Karpov, Korchnoi, Larsen, Portisch,Spassky, Hort, Glgoric, Hubner, Tal and a few others. He hoped to lure Fischer by offering a huge sum of money to him. Unfortunately, he died before his plan could come to fruition.

Go to this address and view a video of "What's My Line" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmeunIOEaLt0mLM and listen to his brief impression of Bing Crosby, it was a knockout. I'm like you, I had no idea the son of a gun did impressions too. Although since he could do just about everything else, I calmed down and realized I shouldn't be so surprised. BTW, his acting was so natural, this guy was simply super. And decades ago, I automatically would say Sammy Davis Jr. was the greatest entertainer. But when youTube came along and I saw videos of Darin I realized Sammy had company and it's simply a coin toss. The only thing Sammy got on Darin is tap dancing, Darin edges him due to his acting, covering and recreating a song, and song writing abilities etc., sorry Sammy. Actually after Darin's death Sammy said something or other that Darin was the only artist he did not want to follow onstage, which is quite a complement ... and I believe him.

I've been ignorant of the talent of this man. I barely knew of him as a singer and had no idea of his other abilities. Might be because I wasn't born 'til '63. I'm amazed and inspired to search for more. There seems to be a dearth of multi-faceted talent today, not that they don't exist, just that they seem scarce. Back at the height of his fame Bobby Darin really had no equal. He defied categories because he did so many things well. He sang pop, folk, the blues and the wonderful compositions of Tim Hardin like "If I Were A Carpenter" and did it all better than just about anyone else. Add to that his talent as an impressionist and an actor and he was really quite unique. So sad that his life was cut short by illness.

When I first heard Dream Lover..I was hooked..or, was it Splish Splash? The dates escape me. But the fact that I heard a singer with fabulous timeing...tempo..phrasing....Bobby Darin could, and did, sing anything he put his mind to. Then, Mack The Knife. Bobby Darin had the audacity to sing a number that Louis made famous!!..We were lucky in Australia, to get occasional clips in the ..probably..only American Entertainment show other than Andy Williams, featuring Rock'n''roll performers and the like..And..there was Bobby Darin..singing Mack The Knife and doing his wonderful little ""Two Step"" to "Look Out Old Mackey Is Back!!"..Which was the way he finished this number!! I was doubly hooked and tried to follow Bobby's career..his movies..his marriage to Sandra Dee....He was the ultimate performer!! As a Sinatra fan I thought Bobby approached a song in a sharper and more soulful manner...I remember exactly where I was living and exactly what I was doing when I heard that Bobby had died..the lights went out in the entertainment business!! If someone could find a clip where Bobby does that little dance routine when he is singing Mack..it would be a wonderful tribute....and, yes, he did show the strain of having a serious heart problem. I have a fabulous DVD of his where he says to the audience that he needs to ... basically take a break, on stage, to "catch"" his breath. The info on this DVD states hat it is a recording of the last show Bobby performed prior to undertaking further surgery. The look in his eyes as he spoke to the audience and left the stage..said it all!!! Miss you Bobby Darin..

It's too bad that he is largely forgotten, he was a wonderful entertainer.

I had only heard BD do this routine before. I had no idea he changed his face to look like the stars he was impersonating! He is so fantastic, smart, and talented!
