Interesting video. Unfortunatly there appears to be a problem with the audio. There's some sort of repetative headache inducing background noise drowning out the machine sound.

I started my machinist/tool/die apprenticeship under the GI bill 1976 at a job shop using ww2 surplus machine tools. I marvel now watching 5 axis machines do their amazing stuff. Things have changed considerably since then.

Started mine in '78. I'm always amazed, even though I use 3 axis machines now.

every engineering video or machine process is better left with the original sound without additional music ... because the original sound is music actually... who agrees with me?

@00:56 why woild i prefer milling instead of turning? higher metal removal rate? better chip control?
@tjo86736 жыл бұрын
1AB09CC3 Because it is a blind hole. A boring bar would recut chips in such a situation. I set up a two-axis lathe, and I frequently drill and bore blind holes. First, I rough out the bore to within .025" of the drill depth. Next, I rough out the bottom of the bore with .005" DOC passes. Finally, I take a finish pass.

why are some holes spot drilled first, while others are not?

Bc of lenght of drill beeing used. The longer the drill is the more u need spot drilling.

HSS drills flexes quite a bit more then HM drills that why you use a spot drill first to make sure that the drill does not wonder of to one side.

The reason that all these machine companies put music over the real audio is so you dont hear the machine shaking and tools chattering like hell . Id prefer to hear THAT , so I just move on and watch 30 seconds of the vid and NEVER inquire about the machine . I buy MORE from their competitors. Its like they are promoting the competition !!!
Thank god they plunge a drill into an unfaced blank. Hopefully more youtube machinists watch this..dont face to center then drill for fucks sake. Waste of time.
