*Comparing your failures to other artists' success is a big one.* We see amazing works by other artists and wish we could've made that but knowing our skill level just isn't there yet will hit you hard. Understand that every artist has their own journey to go through, and that success comes with dedication and time. Every amazing artist had to learn, practice and struggle their own way too.

anime fans never understand when the art teacher tells them not to draw it lol it's not because your not allowed it's because you need to learn the real body first then GO BACK and make stylized bodys such as anime art teachers seem awful at explaining this

funny thing is, if you take a real close at professional anime/manga art, you'll see the creators know so much about perspectives and anatomy it puts beginner realists to shame. bones, muscles, minute details... everything's there when they need to be. it's all about conscious exaggeration and simplification for a clear purpose.

@DontRollInitiative4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the 'tough love'-style of this video. All these tips are great, but really boil down to the fact that you need to accept that practice makes perfect, and that you need to keep challenging yourself. When I was young, people treated me like I was some kind of drawing prodigy. Sadly, I did not keep honing my skills, and 'didn't have time to draw' when 'adult life' started. Now, after not having drawn for maybe 15 years, I'm exploring digital drawing, and let me tell you: it doesn't come easy, and I sure don't feel like a good artist. However, your videos have taught me so much, and this one is just spot-on. I'm rambling, sorry, but long story short: thank you for your inspiring content:).

Damn good video - I don't tend to be one of these people that believes I'm good in my own bubble, but much more that I won't be any good because of a massive lack of faith that leads to lack of practice, that then leads to me not improving much, then I point at that as why I'm not a good artist and the cycle continues...

I think when it comes to learning from mistakes, while getting a sketchbook you won't show to anyone is a good way to get going if you're insecure about it, I think it's super worthwhile to aim at being just fine with mistakes altogether. I've found it very useful in life to not take mistakes personally. Plus people love correcting other people, and if you just act towards them like it's useful (even when it sometimes isn't) people will react more positively towards you. I mean there's no reason to go "Hey everybody! Here's my smudged mess" on instagram, but I think sharing it with a close friend - especially if you're both learning painting - can be pretty helpful in identifying and remembering the mistake.

9:20 Dont gatekeep art from people who have difficulties with motivation or romanticised ideas like passion, its not helpful. Its destructive and discouraging and only promotes further anxiety and negative feelings about self worth. Not everyone was born with ambition and passion, but we'd still like to do things. Also, what was that thing you did with the initial colors around 5:15?
@ImadAwan4 жыл бұрын
The idea is simple. You are passionate about doing something, you make time for it! Goes for not just art but everything! But that is of-course just my opinion! I am not here to suger-coat stuff. Reality can be discouraging for some. Also, for that thing I did, feel free to check out my tutorial "Make Your Life Easier with these Photoshop Digital Painting Techniques"
@mokomatalvi4 жыл бұрын
@@ImadAwan Thats not reality youre handing out with that message. Or whatever the opposite of sugar-coating is. Youre telling people that they should stop doing art because they dont meet your requirements. They dont deserve art, they are not good enough for it, they ought not to do it. About making excuses, I see many acquaintances of mine doing this. I don't have a computer or tablet and I can't even afford to buy one, but I wanted so much to draw in digital, that it wouldn't be the lack of a computer that would limit me, and I started on my cell phone, I found that I can work miracles with it. Also in my own experience doing a lot of 3d renders and postwork i look back on some of my early work and i cringe, however there are things i did in previous pieces that i really love and i have learned bad habits that take me away from the purity of my art. I realize i am not the same person i was, but sometimes i wish i could get back some of the mindset when i didnt have a lot of skill, or tools and had to make due with what i had. I feel like i was more creative in some ways because i had to develop things around the scarcity.
