I don't know if you see these, but I did a whole bunch of packing tape transfers using images from Elle Decor magazine. After about 15 minutes of soaking, the paper just SLID off the tape - no rubbing needed!

I wonder if you could brush a matte medium (clear or tinted) over glossy transfers, to take away the shine (& perhaps add some visible texture from the brushstrokes.) Also you might add strips of matte finish "Scotch" tape over finished glossy transfer, to break the glossy & matte up into subtle stripes?
