This System of Filipino Martial Arts been around for over a hundred years. A lot of the great masters were deceived and murdered by the Japanese in the previous world wars. The pretense was the Japanese was impressed with the Filipino masters and were invited to teach and share their arts with Japanese in Japan. So they lured most of all the prominent masters gathered them together and went on the ship out to sea. That’s where the Japanese slaughtered all the masters on board. Dan Inosanto gives a lot of details about this part of history most people don’t want to talk about or remember... but it’s there.
@davidquinningan89462 жыл бұрын
This is actually a myth. This did not happen and it defies basic common sense. Many of the great Arnis masters during that time joined the guerrillas and were either killed because of war or were executed when captured. An Arnis master during that time would never trust the Japanese and they will never willingly go with them anywhere. The Japanese government in the Philippines at the time were also keen on ensuring the cooperation of the Filipino people and doing that would only further alienate their regime from even the cooperative Filipinos. There is no historical record of this happening, both in the Filipino or Japanese side. This is most probably a hoax contrived by anti-Japanese elements after the war.

My Brothers Sifu was a man named P.Greg Allen he was a was...different Adopted by or raised a Philippino family He was Good mastered several styles. He taught Kali-Silat. I remember we were training he had slapped me on the chest w/open hand. About 30 seconds later my pectoral muscle was on fire I looked down really quickly and there was a perfect handshaped welt. I looked at him he smiled and said "wet hand". That 1 slap motivated me to change & learn better footwork techniques. (That hand print lasted a few hr or so!) RIP MAS GURU

Filipino Dumog has existed for so many years, developed during the post World War II period when many practitioners of the FMA (Filipino Martial Art) also trained in this form of combat. Filipino dumog techniques encompasses a variety of pushes, pulls, weight shifts and joint locks designed to move the opponent.

@ChineseAndFilipinoMartialArts7 жыл бұрын
Chicken Beckerman BJJ came from Japanese JJ. Do you think BJJ is the only art that has grappling? Dumog is a legitimate grappling art. Humans have two arms and legs and the same types of joints all over the world so similar techniques emerge.
@chickenbeckerman5917 жыл бұрын
Do you really think this is Dumog? All other examples of Dumog prior to this clown has no tecniques off the back as it is similar to the Greco Roman style brought by the Spanish when they made their servents wrestle each other for entertainment. This clown probably watched a few modern grappling videos, applied it to what little grappling he knew and slapped a label on it for marketing purposes. Anyone who's trained grappling can see how weak his application is. He's novice at best. He doesn't positionally secure the position before applying the sub and is much much too loose and incredibly sloppy, which is common amongst beginner white belts. Seriously, do you think this clown could last 2 minutes on the Deftac mats??? Heck I doubt he'd last 1 minute.
@ChineseAndFilipinoMartialArts7 жыл бұрын
Chicken Beckerman Yeah I agree his grappling applications aren't the best but it looks as if he isn't applying them too much. I don't know him so I can't say for sure whether he copied this stuff or not but Dumog is a legit art that was my argument.

So many white boys with no original martial arts trying to discount one technique that has been working for centuries for a more recent, yet popular one. I'm not going to discount BJJ here, it is a good art. I wasn't trained on that, but I was trained on just basic Jujutsu. While Dumog and Jujutsu are two different and unrelated arts, there are some similar take downs; while undeniably, some FMA were also Judo/Karate, the fluidity of FMA, allowed them to incorporate some Judo techniques into FMA, while still being distinct. Judo/Jujutsu footworks are wider, whilst FMA is narrower. OK, Dumog, is not Grappling, per se. In the Visayan Language, dumog means tackle. The closest translation to grapple in the Visayan Language is lubag, which means to wrangle. Lubag-Lihay means, grapple and evade. In the classical Dumog, where in, weapons are also utilised, Lubag-lihay is used so that the opponent who would most likely still be armed, won't be able to use his weapons against you while you are grappling you. So, before you white idiots complain why there are open spots in the techniques, drill this in your ignorant coconuts. DUMOG was not invented for UNARMED combat, but rather, to counter an ARMED opponent.

As far as i know, dumog has been in ph history for so long some other says that it was founded when spanish conquered the ph, since spaniards baned the filipinos for practicing eskrima because it was so deadly, then filipinos tried to create more techniques including sikaran, kuntaw, dumog, buno etc. And dumog is founded in panay island, patnongon province of antique, some says it came from ilo-ilo, or capiz

These are excellent techniques, and I love FMA, but in America and England and Japan, we don't call it "Dumog", we call it "Catch Wrestling" : ) Some of these remind me of Erik Paulson's submissions techniques or the techniques I studied under one of his black belt students (Gracie jiu Jitsu and Catch Wrestling, Boxing). I Liked this one, but I had already subscribed to this channel after watching Part 2 in which the first move you did was a "coil lock" as called in catch wrestling (or "omoplata" in bjj) and you did it very fluidly and quickly. The techniques you demonstrate are very applicable on the street or in the cage in a grappling situation. Thanks for sharing these with us.
@obsidianrex88707 жыл бұрын
so called carnival wrestler....real catch wrestling had NO wrestling off the back...in the oldest rulesets of catch as catch can if the shoulders were pinned the match was over.
@carnivalwrestler7 жыл бұрын
You do understand that being on your back and being pinned can be two different things, right? And even some bjj practitioners say the omo plata was originally a catch move. And where do you think you perform the omo plata from? BTW, all the catch matches that I know of today still end when one's shoulders are pinned, or one is submitted, same as it was in the old days. I didn't want to come across as dissing FMA, esp since these Dumog techniques are prob at least 150 years old (coming from Indonesia, I think), so who knows who invented what? That was long before bjj, and towards the beginning of catch in Europe and the U.S. I don't really care, I just like to learn what's effective.
@obsidianrex88707 жыл бұрын
carnivalwrestler yeah.....that's why folkstyle and freestyle wrestlers spend so much time wrestling off there backs.....get real....if your on your back in catch, your about to be pinned not time for locks.
@chickenbeckerman5917 жыл бұрын
actually there are numerous Omoplata setups that don't start from your back. Omaplatas can be hit from anywhere.

So wrong on so many levels. If you're on the blind side of an opponent and secure one arm and move 45 degrees off the other hand cannot reach you. Too far to strike you with. In a standing up range. Dumog is last resort never first resort PTK is go to aggressive weapons first then hand to hand.
