If received a pound for every time I mention Mr Whitt (Larry Whittington) to my work colleagues and associates, I would be a very rich man. I don't take anything from other great scholars including Julio Gonzales, the Organic Chemistry Tutor and Khan Academy but Mr Whitt ramps it up to Mach 10. Seeing that Mach 9.6 is the fastest world speed, its easy to see where Mr Whitt is standing in all of this. Top man all the way.

Fort Bend Tutoring Mr. Whitt If the exponent is 4 and lower, do I still divide it by 4 every time regardless of how low the exponent power is and follow the rules you gave for every imaginary value on 1a or does it follow the rules you did with problem '1D'? Please explain and correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you! Mr.Whitt
@FortBendTutoring9 жыл бұрын
BoxingPride If the exponent is less than 4, then use the sequence provided above problem 1a. In other words, you need to know i ¹ = i, i² = -1, i³ = -1 and i⁴ = 1.
@BoxingPride9 жыл бұрын
Fort Bend Tutoring So why didn't you divide problem 1D by 4? 1D is difficult to understand because what happened to the -1? It's like it just disappeared. Did you use i ¹ = as a fraction, because I think that's what you did at 1d but I want to be sure :) Thank your Mr. Whitt I can't thank you enough! If you have any video other then this that can explain it further... please let me know!

Fort Bend Tutoring Where did you get the positive 1 over i on problem on 1d Mr. Whitt? Do you have a video that explains it more or can you explain it through reply. Thank you!
@FortBendTutoring9 жыл бұрын
BoxingPride Sure, it's because of the negative exponent. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF7Yq3R5itqhqLM
@BoxingPride9 жыл бұрын
Fort Bend Tutoring Thank you so much Mr. Whitt. You helping us succeed! I just have one thing I don't quite understand how you got i over -1 on problem 1d. Do you just carry over the numerator (i) to the next numerator or what? I understand how you got the denominator (-1). I'm catching up Mr. Whitt! I got everything except that tid bit! Please respond when you have the chance! Thank you!
@FortBendTutoring9 жыл бұрын
BoxingPride I'm rationalizing the denominator. A process that is also used when dealing with radicals in the denominator of a fraction. For more info on this check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpfWe6ubrspkeaM When we eliminate the negative exponent by placing i in the denominator, we then rationalize the denominator to get rid of the i. For this problem, that means multiplying the numerator and denominator by i. When multiplying, multiply straight across. BoxingPride if you have any more questions regarding this problem or any other, please ask a tutor, your teacher or you can hire us for an online tutorial.

The first question why did you get the 4 to divide I am not understanding
@FortBendTutoring8 жыл бұрын
+Victoria Coffee It's due to the sequence repeating every 4 "i"s and because i^4 is 1.
@manw3bttcks8 жыл бұрын
I would think you could introduce computing the cycle of the i by using the modulus of 4 instead of doing all that division (39 mod 4 == 3 and so on)
@FortBendTutoring8 жыл бұрын
+manw3bttcks You could, but most understand long division already.

How do you solve (sqrt-75)^3? I did the following (sqrt 75i^2)^3, then broke 75 down into (sqrt 25 x 3 i^2)^3, which gave me (5 sqrt3 i)^3. And here is where I got confused

You’re on the right track! Cube each part from here. You’ll then need to simplify your result.

Ok, we'll add those types of problems to the list of "videos to do". In the meantime, the concepts taught in our "Adding Radicals", "Subtracting Radicals", "Multiplying Radicals" as well as this video is all that is needed to solve problems such as this.
