Awesome video! I’ve watched a dozen other RV water pressure videos and none of them broke down the pump function or mentioned that little screen on the inlet. Ours was almost totally blocked (RV was used), and cleaning it totally fixed our issue!

That’s awesome news. Glad that you were able to resolve. If I may suggest one other thing, try filling the fresh water tank and then drain it completely several time. This will help wash out and debri that may be in the tank. Also, I only fill my tank from a hose connected to a filter kinda like you would do on the city water connection.

Niiiice comprehensive video on the operation, function, and troubleshooting tips!!! One thing to add. If you do not regularly utilize the water pump, like hooked up 2 city water all the time, you need to exercise the water pump to exercise the pressure regulating valve. We boondock a lot so it gets exercised a lot. In order the fix this you have to disassemble the pump and release it. Baffled us once. Thanx for the excellent 411!!! 👍😃🍻

I have a 2006 33ft eagle camper. I replaced the water pump with a brand new one because the old one was leaking all over. As soon as I put the new pump in- it worked beautiful-like a dream! Until I got up this morning and it is NOT working at all! I flipped all of the breakers and changed the fuse that says bathroom. I don't know if that's the correct fuse or not considering my water pump is under my kitchen sink! But still my water pump is not running at all! I live in my camper full time. So I have the same shurflow pump with a bypass, I installed it today brand new from Amazon. They are shipping them out of adjustment sometimes as in my case. It wouldn’t turn off but had good pressure. In this case you need to touch the bypass screw with a 2 mm Allen. Screw it in/tighten it until the pump turns off and then just a little bit more for safety sake. I took mine about one full turn before it would start turning off. Now it operates perfectly. Just the right amount of pressure I was hoping for. Not so much that it wastes water but not so much that it is pulsating.

I have an ARTIS brand pump in my SONIC trailer. It doesn't have a check valve in the lid like the Shurflo. I'm a rookie and was attempting to dewinterize and sanitize yesterday. I was having problems getting water to the pump and out to the faucets so I began troubleshooting. After making sure the valves were all open and still no pressure (only spitting then nothing when opening the faucet), I opened it up to make sure the check valve wasn't stuck, only to find it didn't have one. Eventually the pressure came after watching videos and swithing back and forth between the city water and tank water. So although I got some badly needed education, I still don't know exactly what was wrong before the problem "fixed itself".
@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
Good morning Gerrad. I am not that familiar with the ARTIS brand but from what I just read, it is a magnetic pump meaning that the pumpiong system is not directly tied to the shaft of the pump. I use those types in the industrial enviorment and they work great and have quite a bit less (Hard Failures) menaing that they do not break easily and are meant to be opened to clean with a fair ammount of ease. I am going to attach a link that I hope helps you better understand and it is printable too. Let me know if this helped in any way. tinyurl.com/y6lqngmc

For the propane regulator, I am wondering if you were getting the propane refilled at the same place. My guess is that if you were, then maybe the propane itself has some debris in it causing the failures.

If i am understanding you correctly, the inlet of the pump comes from the water tank. The pump inlet typically is the side where the strainer/filter is that comes with the pump. The outlet goes to your rig but may differ on how it does it. Mine goes directly to my RV due to the fact that i do not have a panle where you can select different options.

Great video! We are trying to fix our daughter's pop up camper Jayco 1206 2013 model. She left the pump switch on by mistake. The pump had been working on their camping trip. On trying it we found no water coming out mostly air. We bought a new pump and installed the same as the old. We still cannot get water to flow. The pump sounds like it is running but only a little water flows at first then air! We have tried all the tricks to get the water flowing and cannot! Frustrated! Any thoughts?
@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
How full is he freshwater tank? You could also try connecting the inlet side of the pump to a make shift hose and a 5 gallon bucket of water to see if it works. Trying the bucket method will help understand if there is a connection issue from the tank to the pump or not. Make sure there are no shut off valves anywhere in between either. If your getting a little water then air, you could have a priming issue and doing the bucket of water trick might help. The water pumps are typically self priming and preset but who knows. I would have to guess that if you have the inlet and outlet of the pump installed correctly, the fresh water tank is full, the bucket of water test fails, and your absolutely sure the pump is running then as it may, the new pump might be no good even though it is new. Please let me know how it turns out or e-mail me at How2RV@gmail.com and we might be able to work it out in more detail.

Due to there being so many different configurations, it is hard to tell. If pump is on but not running, check fuses. If pump is on and running but no water, Try connecting a hose to the inlet side and run the the other side of the hose to a 5 gallon bucket of water and see if it will draw water from there. Also, check for any inline valves and configurations to make sure that the pump is being told to pull from the tank. Mine does not have fancier valves and arrangements but some RV's do. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes. Best of luck to you.

New owner here! If I am dry camping with generator using fresh tank with pump and not city hook up, do I keep the pump on when I get to my site and keep it on all weekend? Or should I be turning my pump on and off when I need to use water?
@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
I have been out and kept mine on the for a week with no issues. You do need to make sure that there is plenty of water in the fresh water tank at all times. You dont want the pump to run dry and because you leave the pump on, it will keep runing if there is no water in the tank and it is looking for water to build pressure. Also, if you are going to keep the water heater on, it is good to keep the pump on too. This is to make sure that there is water being pumped to the water heater if you use it. Hope this helps.

One thing that you can try the next time is to take the inlet side of the pump and run a hose from it to a 5 gallon water jug. Turn on the pump and see if it pulls water instantly or not. If it does, I would say the water tank is suspect. If not, then I would say the pump is bad and needs replaced. Also, not saying that I dont trust anyone but sometimes the dealers do not do exactly what they say they are going to do or have done. Maybe yours is an exception.

If this is like yours then maybe checking the ball/seal or replacing it. Before all of that though, try pushing water in from the town water connection and disconnecting the hose a few times to see if it will reseat. If not, remove the filter screen at the hose connection to see if there is any dirt in there. Hope this helps. Let me know what your resolve is once you find out.

To be on the safe side, make sure that your freshwater tank isn’t filling because of the bypass. Mine has a check in it so that the city water connection doesn’t backfill the freshwater tank. How can I make the pump turn on when I open the water. Does that function cones with the pump. How do I know
@HowToRV Жыл бұрын
The pump should have a built in pressure regulator. When you turn on the water at the sink or such, the pressure reduces causing the pump to come on. If the pump does not come on, I would check the fuses. 1 is at the pump and the other is in the power distribution panel. Oh, this may sound odd but check to make sure the battery is getting power to the RV. This is typically accomplished by making sure the interior lights come on. Hope this helps

Are accumulators necessary?
@HowToRV Жыл бұрын
I think that this is up to the user. I have heard both sides of the story. I do not have one myself because if I am at a campsite where the pressure is low, I fill my freshwater tank and use the pump. When low on water, I fill the tank again. For accumulators, the idea is to keep a more standard pressure and prevent water hammering of the lines and pipes, which could break them. Short answer is no you don't have to use one. With that being said, it doesn't hurt to have one inline just in case either. As long as the pressure is ok, you should be fine.

Can’t get my pump with the correct adjustment either stays on constant or pulses , but has great pressure just kills my batteries any advice
@HowToRV3 жыл бұрын
I would start by checking the strainer to see if it has any cracks in it. The strainer should look like a filter that is direct screwed to the side of your pump. At least mine is. If there is any cracks in the filter housing or loose lines on either side of the pump, you will not build pressure and the pump will continue to run. Look for cracks in the suction side (side where it is pulling from the water tank) or on the discharge side. If there are any leaks on the discharge side, most likely you will see water coming from somewhere it does not belong. Either way, typically you will find that the pump does not stop running because it can not build pressure due to leaks in the lines. If you do not find any leaks, then you may have to replace the pressure switch on the pump. The pressure switch would be the part that has the screw for adjusting the pressure. One side note, if you have been turning the screw for the pressure side, you need to recheck your pressure to make sure that you are not over pressurizing your system. I would do this by putting in an inline gauge somewhere in your RV. If you are not comfortable with all of this troubleshooting, please consult a repair tech. These are from my experiences and I am not a professional repairman. Please let me know what you find out. Sorry for such a long reply. Good luck and God bless.

So I have the same Shurflo pump that had got some sand up inside from a failed screen filter. It wasnt pumping water so I had to take apart the pump and clean out all the little sand pieces stuck up in the diaphragm. I also removed the pressure switch and by pass. Cleaned them out as well. I dont know how to set the by pass screw back to the manufacturer's setting. My pump now pumps and shuts off. But occasionally if left on it will continue to run. I believe the by pass is causing that. I have a shut off valve that is after the water pump so I can keep the water in the lines. When that valve is close and the pump is on sometimes it continues to run like its not building pressure.

Super job, Jason. My problem is that my pump loses its prime after running 3 or 4 minutes...shuts off then after about 20 or so seconds will re-prime itself and work for a while. Sometimes, for example, if the shower is being used and someone turns on a sink....the prime will drop off and no water. . If I toggle the satellite on/off switch, and turn it back on and will reprime itself. The filter screen is clean. I do not see any leaks. The system does have an accumulator tank so I don't know if that would have anything to do with it. Any advice will be appreciated.
@HowToRV3 жыл бұрын
I have not experienced that on my own but i have ready that people have found that the pump is pulling air in with water on the inlet side of the pump. Loose fittings, cracked lines, loose connections etc... Also, you may not see any leaks because the suction side of the pump is pulling in anything that it can pump. An accumulator tank is to aid in pressure drops and water hammering, that is on the external side of the pump and if your not seeing water build up anywhere in or around your RV, I would think that you should be good there. I have told people with similar concerns that they could disconnect the inlet side and some how rig a line fromn the pump to a 5 gallon bucket and see if the problem goes away. I know that this kind of thing can be severly annoying and I would love to hear what you find out.

@@HowToRV I have found that the filter bowl on the suction side of the pump can leak and suck air in and not let the pump prime. That is a great question. If the pressure is setting gets to high, it is possible that it could keep running. Most of the replies that I get though are that either the freshwater tank has gone empty, there is air getting into the inlet side of the pump or there is a leak somewhere. You can also go to your local RV store or online and find out what the return policy is, buy one, change it out to see if that fixed it and if it didnt, box it back up and send it back for a refund.

Thanks for all the great info! We're full timers (for a little over a year now). We've been at a campground for the last few months riding out the winter. We have full hookups with 50 amp service. Our fresh water tank stays empty & we use a water pressure regulator (ours is dialed down to 45 psi). A few weeks ago our water pump switch on the inside panel was accidentally turned on at some point (I suspect it got bumped in the dark when searching for the kitchen light). When I discovered it was on later, I immediately turned it off. I have no idea how long it had been on, but I suspect at least several hours. With no water in the fresh tank, is it possible I burned the pump out? Or is there a mechanism to prevent the pump from coming on if we're hooked into city water? The reason I ask is there was never any noise from the pump (like there usually is when you turn it on). Any help is greatly appreciated!
@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
I would think that if you did not hear the pump running that you just might be ok. The real matter hear is that the pump is not running. A couple of tests that you could do is to first put some water in your fresh water tank. Than disconnect from the city water connection. Turn on the pump and see if the pump will start running. If the pump doesnt start, then there are 2 fuses that you need to locate. One of the fuses is in the distrubution panel where your main power breakers are. You will be looking on the 12 volt side and should see fuses like the ones found in cars. The other fuses is loacted at the pump itself and is in a small in-line fuse harness. (I would strongly recommend that if you are going to check fuses, to disconnect from shore power and disconnect the battery first). After that, check to see if the pump will come on. The pump should run until pressure is built up from pulling in water to your RV. If the pump is not running from the get go and you know for sure that you are getting power to it, I would recommend to either replace the pump or have a technician take a look at it. Now with this all said, this is from my experience and how my RV is set up. I hope this helps and quite interested in what you find as your resolve. Let me know. Happy camping.

@@j.a.maranto3679 Did you ever figure out if you did any damage to your water pump? I ask because I was boondocking recently and ran my fresh water tank out of water. At that point, my water pump went from its regular humming noise to a very faint humming noise, barely noticeable, so I turned it off. My wife didn't know that the tank was empty and she turned on the switch. I really don't know how long it was before I noticed the switch was on (it shows red) and also discovered that the pump was running (again, barely noticeable) but nonetheless, it was running. Anyways, it did not damage the pump. My belief as to maybe why it didn't ruin it is because there may have been traces was water trying to get past the diaphragm, but not enough to make pressure. Maybe because of that little bit of water trickling around, it saved it.

This is very nicely done. I've subbed and liked, now a comment - for the algorithm. I agree with your troubleshooting techniques and methods. I live in a Toyhauler and truck water to storage totes, from there to my RV when needed. I wanted to upgrade to the larger SHURflo 4048. It gives 4.0 GPM at 55 PSI and the PEX in the coach can handle triple that. Not sure about the fixtures. I wanted more pressure and flow - to get an RO system working - had one already... made by PENTAIR - as is SHURflo - one thing Tech Support to another and yup - it WILL work. And has. Of course I go through the pump more quickly than even 'regular live-aboards' but I don't have to go out for potable water. (Don't have to prevent 8 jugs from freezing too - or drive out to refill them.) So I'm refreshing my memory of the settings on the 4048 - similar but not quite the same as the 4008, I think. I want max pressure and flow for a decent shower and to make RO water. I've still got one issue to resolve before I can put a 'Tap' of potable water in the counter - working on that. Nice job on this. I'll have a look at what else you've done. Slava Ukraini.

From what I understand, the pex is more than capable of handling the pressures. More or less, it is the fitting like hoses, rubber sealed lines and outside lines with the rubber grommets that have a hard time with higher pressures. Love to hear your thought/experience on that.
@bc-guy8522 жыл бұрын
@@HowToRV Not sure quite what you mean there. In Canada, there's a new category of PEX called PEX-A. Still same diameter but different fittings - more commercial. I do not think any PEX has leak issues - unless crimp is incorrectly done. (side crimp rings do work but depends on how applied). I was afraid of PEX for years - but I like that joints can swivel years later and not leak. I'm still working on integrating the RO system; currently working but I have to turn it on/off manually. In process.

@HowToRV2 жыл бұрын
Maybe try pulling the input line off of the pump and putting water down the hose until it fills up and then reconnecting to see if that helps. The pumps that i am familiar with are RV fresh water pumps of today. They are self priming. Not sure how the pump is supposed to work on yours. I would have to suspect that if it is not self priming, then there should be a check valve somewhere inline so that the water will not drain back to the tank once the pump is shut off.

Another trick is to disconnect the outlet of the pump so that there is no "head pressure" on the outlet. I have found that creating a loop from the outlet, back to the inlet with a shutoff valve inbetween and a hose connection allows you to hook up city hose to the "loop" to prime pump whenever you need to. Works everytime.

Does anybody have this exact pump with leaking problems? This is my second one and we dont use the pump because we are on city water all the time. This is the second pump that leaks from the top.

I have not heard of any. I recommend to use it at least once a month so it dissent fail. Also, it is not unheard of to get a bad one even if new. That would be my luck anyway. I would say to return it and try again. Aggravating I know but worth the try.

The problem I'm having is my pump is not turning off when I stop using the water.

The 3 most comon issues are the pressure settngs and a possible water leak or the pump is pulling in air from the line coming from the fresh water tank to the inlet of the pump.

my pump comes on but won't shut off...

I would start by checking for leaks. If you are certain that you do not have any, then you try the pressure settings. I usually recommend folks to see a service tech if they are not certain of what they are doing.
