it's just like color. White is usually considered the absence of color, yet it consists of a combination of all possible colors.

Alex Kuhn same thing with the color black.
@bigagabriel
@bigagabriel 5 жыл бұрын
you are mixing light with material color. In light, white is the sum of visible spectrum (if im not mistaken) and black is the absence. And with material/chemical you can play like that with colours, since white would lose to some colour (when it would actually both move to some middle of the color spectrum. And putting colors together would make it get closer to black (more like a dark brown). Yet black is usually some extract of something that is black.

What if 0th dimension is the 10th dimension? Like instead of thinking of the dimensions as moving in a pattern where everything is perpendicular, it returns back to 0 at the end.
@10thdim

+Arnold Christian Yes, there's no doubt about it, this approach to visualizing the dimensions starts from a point of indeterminate size, and ends with a point of indeterminate size. While one of the definitions of "indeterminate" is "all possible values are simultaneously valid", there is still something subtly different about these two concepts, because we tend to think of the zero-dimension "point" as being infinitesimally small, and the ten-dimension "Ultimate Ensemble" as being infinitely large. But that's the idea I've been promoting with this project: both are really just different ways of thinking about the same concept - a point of indeterminate size. And the point of this video is to show a way of thinking about how the "zeroth" dimension can be interpreted as being both infinitesimally small, and infinitely large: it just depends upon your frame of reference.

Actually if we're defining our universe as one that lacks a whole lot of anti- matter then would the negative dimensions be ones that lack normal matter? Would everything be made of anti-matter? Considering that negative numbers don't interact with each other the same way that positive numbers do (two negatives multiplied = a positive) Does that mean that a negative dimension would have slightly different laws?

What he claims in this, and his other videos, is not substantiated by any body of scientific or mathematical knowledge. If you want to actually learn how the world or mathematics works" First off GREAT recommendations But from what i can remember and read here lets see Humm well dose that that mean the 4th dimension is pseudoscience ? before anything new can be found we must experience, or think of it even newton had a theory on gravity that was denied until there where established physics which he helped with to help prove his theory basically just because something cant be recorded seen or documented doesn't mean its not there or not possible lastly if you are referring to this video---- >this video is an interesting and critical way of think even if its wrong it could spin off ideas or other theory's to something of more importance and if you know this guy is a pseudoscientist why come here and poke at something no said he was a mathematician and read the title it literately says Imagining the "Zeroth" Dimension so if you are trying to record or validate an imagination then you may need to shop in the future for a new camera however if your referring to the other guy Sethbling ------>some points are still there but I haven't seen his work or what he claims to call him self

You know what's really disturbing? There are an infinite amount of zero-dimensional points in a line, an infinite amount of lines in a plane, and an infinite amount of planes in a 3D space. So, our universe is just an infinite amount of zero-dimensional points? This is like the fletcher's paradox. What if we don't move through space at all...

No, I don't think so. As I understand it, dimension 0 = En Soph. A calm ocean of all probabilities. No determined direction, size, location, form, or reference points. Pure "I am", simply being with no form. Some say that dimension 0 is a point, but I believe this is erroneous. That's like saying the third dimension is a beach ball when in fact a beach ball is only an object or subsection of the third dimension. A point has no dimensions therefore it is a zeroth dimensional concept, but it is not the zeroth dimension. A point is simply a location, and locations exist in all dimensions except in dimension zero where location is undefined.

Ehm, no. You have likely reversed the other concept - life is deviation from the zero, or an infringement of the perfect state. As with everything else we see or feel - there was not enough negative antimatter to quell our deemed positive prevalence in the becoming at the birth of this universe, as we like to view it. And evolution... Across eons evolution has shaped countless, tormented stitches abomination that may or may not survive for long enough to reproduce then be used as a mold on for other creatures spawning into this wretched world just to suffer wit and die. Based in impurity, we can never have our desires fully satisfied - because they are infinite. When made aware of this gluttony we can use our fortunate intelligence to minimize the pain that oblivious life implies. This is what signifies descent near spiritual illumination. The meaning of (sentient) life remains to try and keep that 0 breached, albeit on planes where it will make a difference that holds true beyond one's ego, even beyond attrition of time - science, art, culture, et cetera; over the classic 'generate capable offspring at any cost'-tactic. Just like the meaning of our end is to accept it: The worse we all treat each other, the more people like me will relinquish our faith in you - supplied with reasons leaning to the latter. Life is divergence. Perfection is death.

Okay, this is bullshit. I'm not even sure which of these two things are more important but here goes: 1. when you sum n and (-n) where n=0 -> x (and x is not infinity) you get zero, yes. But that doesn't mean that that zero contains those numbers. That's just a leap of logic. sum of n + (-n) is just that - a sum, a mathematical operation. It doesn't magically "stuff" numbers into the result. You can also think of it like this: take one person, put him in a room. Then take one person out. Put two in, take two out. Repeat until x, where x is not infinity. How many people are in that room? All of them or none? 2. infinity is not a number. It's a mathematical construct with certain properties that we defined so that it can be used in calculations. But there are some non-intuitive operations when dealing with infinity (I'll use "inf" for infinity now on). E.g.: inf + 1 = inf (not inf+1) inf - 1 = inf (not inf-1) inf - inf = undefined How is that? It's because infinity is just that - it's infinity, it's not a finite number, it's something that never ends. It's like you're shoveling and putting dirt on a pile. The amount of dirt on the pile is infinity because you'll never stop shoveling. Now what happens if someone takes one shovel of dirt out of your pile? Nothing, it's still infinity because you will keep adding more dirt. It's even easier when someone adds one shovel of dirt. Now how to visualise inf minus inf? Let's say you have a friend who's a bad dude and he comes and starts taking dirt out of your infinite pile and he'll never stop so his amount of shoveled dirt is minus infinity. Now how large will the pile actually get? The answer is we don't know. It depends on how fast each of you is shoveling, when each of you started, when you take breaks from shoveling etc. The pile is in fact in constant change so there is no definite size of that pile. So now that we see why zero cannot be "all the numbers" just because n + (-n) is zero, we see that the whole concept is proven wrong. All that follows after the construct of zero as "absolute value" are more leaps of logic. In fact probably the worst one is this: "The content of -1 is equal but inverse to the content of 1." - that doesn't even make any sense or maybe I don't understand the construct because English is not my primary language - if so, please somebody explain the meaning to me. At any rate the foundation is a flawed interpretation of math so it's wrong anyway.
@JPxKillz
@JPxKillz 9 жыл бұрын
Firstly, I do not agree calling 0 the "largest number" perhaps the "largest set" is more appropriate. And this idea is an idea proposed by Gevin Giorbran, not a bonified theory obviously, that'd be impossible. But I'm sure you know that. "The content of -1 is equal but inverse to the content of 1." I agree that this could be phrased better, but in English it makes perfect sense. Grammatically and logically it means -1 is equal to the inverse of 1. Kinda' weird. Your mini though experiment is slightly flawed. You are not supposed to add and remove, rather add *then* add the inverse. A better thought representation would be... Take a person, put the person into a room and then add that persons inverse. Which doesn't align with conventional logic but hey, it aligns with the proposed idea. But inherently it still approaches the infinite dilemma you mentioned. Infinity is not a number, you are correct, and neither is 0. Both are concepts used as models for computations. Thus, by recognizing all real numbers lye between 0 and inf 0 and - inf. It is helpful to intrinsically define the two abstracts as related to real numbers in the way 1 + (-1) + 2 + (-2) .... This is reasonable since this is not in terms of sheep or any real objects, but simple abstractions. Just as the axiom for infinite is abstract. I am not a math major but this is my take on it.
@mikosoft
@mikosoft 9 жыл бұрын
Prof. Killionare "Grammatically and logically it means -1 is equal to the inverse of 1." - that's actually my gripe with it. According to the given theory 1 is a "set" of all real numbers except for 1 and -1 is the set of all real numbers. Those two sets are almost the same except for one member. Far from being inverse. And that's another huge problem here - the amount of vague redefining in this video is too high. If someone is o put forth a concept like this somehow needs to be honest about what he is doing. Using addition, subtraction, inverse in nontrivial manner without defining is no math, it's just babbling.
@RylanEdlin
@RylanEdlin 9 жыл бұрын
This isn't meant to be a rigorous definition in the terminologies of common mathematics, it's meant to be a thought exercise. I agree that explaining it with "sum({0}\{-n})" makes more sense, but at least the video got us thinking about the idea. On a side note, the idea of zero being the perfect whole actually also aligns with other kinds of indeterminate values. I find it astounding that an infinitesimal per infinitesimal can be determinate, when an infinity per infinity is not.

To help you understand zero vs infinity. Think of them as the same thing, except infinity defines a direction either positive or negative. There zero and infinity means zero is a point in infinity without movement, while infinity is points that of zero in a direction while moving. Therefore it comes back onto itself because it is moving.

+alZiiHardstylez The dimensions are counted, and that physical number is not relavant beyond that, other than that of this 'zeroth' dimension, which is actually the lack of everything(which is everything simultaneously) In this, it is only a label. This is like asking someone what their negative second car was. It makes no sense. However, this does remind me of a joke as a kid, when someone shares a drink with you and you drink all of it, and say your half was on the bottom. In mathematics, a zero-dimensional space is a space that contains no paths or continuous curves. Such spaces are also called discrete spaces and are often used in topology to study the properties of more complex spaces. Zero-dimensional spaces have many interesting properties. For example, any zero-dimensional space can be shown to be completely disconnected, meaning that the closure of any subset of the space contains no non-empty connected subset other than itself. This property makes zero-dimensional spaces very useful in certain areas of mathematics and physics, such as the study of fractals and the construction of certain types of models. Additionally, zero-dimensional spaces can be used to represent certain types of data structures such as trees and graphs.

As of 8:38 where I stopped, this idea defines itself upon semantics and thought experiments (like lawyers...). Don't be confused out of the fact that this is purely philosophical and has no mathematical relevance. And don't go into calculus class with the preconception that zero has some sort of powerful significance. Like those kids from high school who thought there would be something mystical about a hypothetical final digit of pi. This is what I get for watching a video about tesseracts.

The craziest thought I took away from this (which the video didn't really expand upon) is the concept of numbers as a set. Just as 0 is a set of all numbers less itself. For example 1 can be the set {1}, or {1, (1-1)}, or {1, (7-7), (222-222), ...}. Each of those sets all represent 1, but at the same time each set is different. Like wise, subtract each of those 1 sets from 0 will result in -1, but each -1 will be slightly different. It's the infinite 0 set less the finite 1 set. Mind blown.

I'm gonna make a comment before and after the video. Before. Easy, the 0 dimension is an infinitely small point, used to represent the directional values of the rest of the dimensions. After. Makes sense, however we did not go in depth of the dimension itself, merely the concept of zero as a whole. Speaking of the dimensions is a whole other level of math that cannon be explained using the normal parameters of math.

Actually guy made a one major mistake, by assuming (-1) = (1), by assuming geometrical explanation of numbers is lenght and not the act required to get from one point to another in plane you can move only forward. (That's why there's an arrow on the end of each "dimension line", cause dimensions are infinite, but don't actually go in both directions, the actually go in one direction, you just pick an "origin point" on infinite line and measures how many "steps" it take to get from that "origin point" to the point you're talking about. And you cannot go (1) backwards, going backwards is removing those "steps" you've taken from "real origin point" that is infinitly far behind you)

It still brings nothing good to the table though, and it's not safe from ritual insanity. Did you know people cook their best food and put it on the floor of buddhist temples for buddha to eat? Except, it's a load of rats that pop up and eat the food. Now, what kind of damage does buddhism do to progress? I don't know, but i would guess it's less that western religions. If you wanna pull a religion from Asia though, remember to think of how religion affects those countries, You'l see that hardcore religious fanatics aren't nearly as common there and religion in general is less powerful.

I think your right. Here's my explanation: The 0th dimension is where everything entirely breaks down, and anything is completely possible, yet impossible at the same time... The laws of physics can rapidly change or stay the same at any moment. It can suddenly pop into any dimension it desires, or begin the process of changing and suddenly stop. It contains everything or nothing at any given moment in time. It contains time, and doesn't simultaneously. The video said, "This 0 were headed to is not empty, but full of all the other possible states". Its a very difficult thing to imagine... But, this is assuming the zeroth dimension even exists. I believe it doesn't, and to have 0 dimensions is to truly have nothing.

If you lived in zero dimensions, you could still "Move". I put quotes as you wouldn't move, but instead, there would be different values to each particle that substitute space and time.
