At my Mclane interview the manager showed me how the warehouse guys are given a diagram of how the truck should be loaded according to which route it’s going on. They try to maximize how much space they use on the trailer (all 48 footers) while cutting down on the time the driver spend looking for cases.

All true facts! Another great video full of facts, my dude! The food service trucking lane is a great opportunity to get the experience for new drivers. I will say that during the time that you are with food service, take that time to use it as a stepping stone to your next platform of driving or whatever your next goal maybe. The physical aspect of the job will eventually catch up with you. Keep bringing the content! Your gonna get that call one day my dude for recruiting for Gordon……I see it! ✊🏽

Been in the food game since 2000 Delivery driver to trans supervisor, and safety manager since 2005. Started driving in the late 80s and to be able to be a local driver making good money and sleep in your own bed every night was UNHEARD of back then, but today it's possible. But don't get it twisted, it takes a special breed to throw cases, keep up the good work fam.

this was a good video. wish i came across this before accepting a job at UNFI. i mean i have 1 year experience but no food delivery experience. so i'm currently in training with them. its been very productive, but also running 10-12 hour days and then not having much time with family at home. then expected back early in the morning between 1 and 4am. but also didn't realize it would be 100% touch freight either. so thats my fault. But im decent at it and i'm gonna stick it out and see how things go. But i gotta admit the pay is good for what the job entails especially w/o no experience in food delivery.

The truth is there are companies that pay by the hour or by commission. Both require you to work, I mean work your ass OFF. Non stop. Fast paced, back breaking straight get down hard work. Non stop until that trailer is empty. Don't get me started on dealing with difficult customers who want this here, and that there, and then want to take thirty minutes to check it in. If you aren't physical able to get down and bust your ass don't bother.

@Ray Ray that’s not the case for everyone. I personally work 4 sometimes 5 days a week. 40-47hrs a week. I’ve been in the delivery business for over 20yrs going up & down the ramp and never had any knee or back injuries. Thank God. Food service isn’t for everyone but make no mistake about it, everybody is not working all those hours.

Are some routes better than others for stability? For example, if my route had schools and hospitals, those places go on no matter what-recession or not. In recessions people go out to eat less (generally), so I wonder if that would hurt the guy with more restaurants on his route.
@imanthonytv
@imanthonytv 2 жыл бұрын
Typically, most local routes have a variety of different customers which may include all of the places you mentioned on one route. Actually, if a driver does have a route which consists of all schools, that route will definitely see a decline when school is out for the year due to no orders being placed. People need food and even in a recession, we still go to restaurants so the case count may drop a little but honestly not much so this industry is definitely stable unless there’s another P-word that effects us all drastically again.

@imanthonytv

Not all food service companies require driving experience. Sysco, GFS, PFG, Sygma, & McLane are all companies who will hire new drivers. With that said, getting OTR experience will definitely benefit you in terms of driving experience.
