I think people keep forgetting that Carl was hand raised since he was a baby. Of course, he's in a new place with new people and animals, but he's not a wild ostrich. Lester is very good about reading his animals. I think Carl will fit in great once he's acclimated.

@@britt210 so Tex is a wild animal then too. Is everyone going to start saying Tex needs to go? Trudy was truly a "wild" animal. She was raised by Lester and is now an amazing and loving animal. Carl is showing no signs of aggression. If he does start showing aggressive tendencies then I trust that Lester will keep everyone safe. The simple fact is, the farm belongs to Lester and he can bring whatever animal there he wants.

Lester this is wonderful! Carl was raised with human contact, and other species contact. He is not a WILD caught bird, and yes he has the potential to be aggressive. But so does Pig Trudy. It's all about environment and relationships.

He did make himself look smaller. He laid his feathers down closer to his body. His bird defense if fluffing up their feathers to look bigger and mean. He's exploring, and doesn't look to be aggressive in the least. I know these are powerful and potentially dangerous animals, and so do you all. So I say use your best judgment, and keep a diligent eye out.

Carl is what's called an monogastric herbivore so you want to offer not only normal poultry feed, but plants too. Also, become his best buddy by offering raspberries in your hand! They love them!

I hope this is kind of a “probationary period” and if he upsets the balance of the sanctuary, other arrangements will be made. This was the other animals home first. It’s wonderful for Lester to want to save him but not to the expense of a single one of the babies. Fingers crossed.

I need to eat humble pie. Coming from Africa, I know ostriches, nearly fell off my horse because of an ostrich. Even domestic ostriches do massive damage to man and beast. HOWEVER, Lester, it seems your gut feel was right, so I humbly am eating my words. I loved your introduction method to the Littles field, your care and compassion for each and every animal was great. Thank you for sharing the entire process it proved to all of us just how easily Carl us fitting in. I really hope things continue in this manner even when the goats start their antics.

Lester, I raised Ostriches for years. Please do not leave him alone with the babies. He will kill them! They walk the fences that's what they do!

How much of a threat is he to them? I’m just really worried because some of the goats a goofy. And I have seen and heard that ostriches aren’t even messed with by big animals like lions in the wild. What would make him want to kill the little animals? If he watches them during the day will it be OK? Maybe Carl can go to his own pastor at night time.

Those world class horses have frequent flyer miles. They're completely fine with it. They load them into something like a portable stall sort of like a cube with one other horse and then that whole stall is loaded into the cargo plane. It's pressurized and air conditioned and their grooms are right there to check on them frequently. They munch their hay and are very comfortable about it.
