Everybody is all worried about Carl kicking someone, but even when trying to catch and load him I never saw him try to kick. He is used to humans and other animals, he's not a wild Ostrch. Ostriches are great watch- birds. I have a friend who has them, and they love her- but do not allow anyone to exit their vehicle, until she comes out and moves them to the one of the pens on either side of the house. One friend didn't realize how territorial they are, and thought he'd just ignore them. Um, nope! The birds surrounded his truck, and every time he moved, pecked the roof of his truck- so, DENTS in the roof of his truck. I thought an emu might be cute for Jami, but Carl? I dunno! A bird that size, territorial and missing his girlfriend? You're braver souls than I am.

Oh my GOODNESS !!! Lester , this brought memories for me !!! A long time ago , maybe 20 years . I worked at a Pharmacy . And I had a wide range of duties . Mostly working the drive through window , and taking care of the over the counter orders . Well , one day ……..I was asked to make deliveries . I was thinking, yea this is cool , get to leave the store , get to drive around . Well , one of those deliveries happened to be on the outskirts of our small town . It was at a doctors house ( for his wife ) . The doctor that delivered me 64 years ago . He and his wife are both in heaven now . They had a beautiful place , down a gravel road , dirt lane , wooded area , lots of trees . I pulled up to carport . Reached over to get my delivery together . And when I put my hand on door to get out ………..THERE AT MY WINDOW WAS AN EIGHT FOOT OSTRICH STARING AT ME 😳 I sat in the car and evaluated this creature , wondering what to do . Well he kind of wondered off , so I got out , went around the corner , to the door in the carport , AND WAS GREETED BY TWO ROTTWEILER DOGS !!!! The doctors wife came to door & said oh they are just big babies . I will NEVER forget that experience . And seeing Carl brought back that memory . I THINK I WAS SET UP , THEY PROBABLY THOUGHT I WOULD CRAP MY PANTS .

Carl is one handsome boy! I sure hope he settles in and is much more calm. Moving an animal like that is very stressful on everyone. I’m sure you’ll earn his trust once he checks out his new area. I wish you nothing but the best with Carl! ♥️

We hope Carl settles in quickly and likes it at ISS. Your Dad knows all about ostriches, Lester doesn't yet. He has a lot to learn, hopefully he can do that before anyone (human or animal) gets injured.

Carl is cute. I've never read up on ostriches, but just did... I am worried too like others have said. Their kick can kill a human or an animal if a threat. Their talons can slice a human or animal. Does say they eat mice, snakes, lizards etc .. maybe he can clear the barndominium. Stay safe Lester and Jaime.

@@ImaSurvivorSanctuary Tex is a big beautiful boy with a loving heart towards SantiAnna, Pearl, and Grace. He’s playful. I truly respect and love you Lester but Carl will never have a loving personality. He can’t reason like Tex can. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. I’m sure Carl will do fine. 💕👍🏻🌻🙏🏻

An ostrich is an excellent addition for the sanctuary. Once he settles in and gets used to your babies, he is going to be the best watchdog you have ever seen. The predators are going to head for the hills instead of coming to your pastures and trying to fight with him.
