i miss when going to the movies was actually a show and not just sit and watch a movie

I miss this intro a lot. I only ever saw it with "Hubble 3D" and "Tron: Legacy". I didn't go to another IMAX movie after that until 2012, when "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was re-released, and it didn't have this.

I loved this - along with the older Empire "feature presentation" intro.

I remember this! I was a kid when I was in Halifax at the time in the late-90's. I think I'm going to make a virtual video with this audio clip. Would you happen to remember the speaker locations as he demonstrated?
@alexkron4 жыл бұрын
Two speakers at the back of the room, in the left and right corners, and four behind the screen, which form a T-shape.

@@NickTheYoungHistorian Also, as John said "that are projected onto a screen that is 6 stories high....." a wash of light would come on the screen. Then, as he says "which delivers sound from speakers here....here.....", a light would shine on each speaker as he said "here". I believe the order was: rear left, rear right, left screen, right screen, center screen, and center screen lower. Then, the theater would get completely dark as he tells us to close our eyes.

@@alexkron That's right. The first film I ever saw in IMAX was Fantasia 2000.

@@NickTheYoungHistorian For me, the first one I saw was The Dream Is Alive, when the theatre opened in 1998. I also saw Titanica, The Living Sea, Everest, and To The Limit.

Well, you'll soon have to get used to seeing a new IMAX intro, with the sale of the Atlantic Canadian Empire Theatres to Cineplex. Cineplex will become Canada's only national movie theatre chain, likely by the end of August 2013. Empire Theatres 1978-2013.

The new thing they do before each IMAX movie now is terrible.... I have no idea why they would have ever gotten rid of this. Very disappointing...
@karlweir31985 жыл бұрын
They got rid of this intro because Empire Theratres was bought out by Cineplex Entertainment and they opening was property of Empire Theatres.
