Imbolc - Customs & Traditions, Blessing Tools

In Ireland, Imbolc is Brigid's Day AND the beginning of Spring. There are many customs and traditions around Lá Féile Bríd and in this video I am talking about the blessing of the tools and seeds for the forthcoming agricultural year.

Absolute terrible weather here, a very sore throat, headache, and general tiredness... I think it's a message that I need to rest and leave sickness and winter behind for the 1st of February ahead! Imbolc is my favourite day in our witch celebrations. Although we have loads of snow here in the Yukon, Canada and definitely no flowers (in May) the sun light is getting stronger and the days are noticeable longer. Just when I was in the dark night of the soul, facing what I was afraid would be pain and the inability to garden this spring, when I turn 79, along comes inspiration from you, dear Terri. I found a place to purchase elderberry twigs to grow, and 3 hawthorn bushes after your video. Now to find where I can purchase Rosemary. I now have something to look forward to....as I must be restored to be able to walk, sit, stand and work without pain, be straight again, to plant my veggies and tend what I already have, along with start my new bushes & seeds into pots and garden boxes. It is, of course, no coincidence that as people turned away from nature and traditional beliefs, they ended up less health and less happy. Our health is measured by our connection to nature, and our happiness comes from our connections to the natural world as well. Last Thursday was Tu B'Shvat (the Jewish new year for trees) which we celebrate with fruit and planting trees. Many cultures have similar traditions. The photography with the mountain views is amazing, as is the music (as always; thank you Lol!). Good Imbolc, blessings to you, Lol, and everyone. 🌲🥀🍀🐝🍯

Thank you for another delightful video! Here in the eastern US the wheel of the year is turning too, at the 3rd week of January the birds suddenly "wake up" and sing constantly now. In another month or so the daffodils and crocuses will push up. You are also inspiring me to put away my Christmas decorations, it's time to move on with the year.

It's coyote baby season here. Been keeping my fur babies in lately because of it. Been very cold here lately, just recently switched to mild and very wet. Makes everything soggy. Haven't been doing much gardening or garden preparation. Though this upcoming week I am going to be switching a flower bed around. Moving the bulbs to another area and rethinking the bed thereafter. I added some lovely oak limbs to my altar, our yard and woods are loaded with red, white and black oak. Been kinda celebrating Imbolc already with music and candle burning. Was going to look at my local shop for either a snowdrop or crocus or dandelion to add to my altar before the 1st. Here in Missouri it's closer to mid Feb before the one's in my garden sprout. But, with that said, some signs of Brigid and spring are here. A pair of blue birds have taken up nesting in a new bird house I hung on my grapes. They are our state bird. 💙🩵💙 I love the idea of blessing the tools. I forget about things like that. Love your videos.

Oh the weather looks so inviting there…I look out my window and snow and slush envelope the landscape and the trees are still dusted in frost……Imbolc has always been one of my favorite turns on the wheel…. As much as I truly love Winter, the waiting has begun…but we’ll have another 3 months at least of cold & cooler weather until Spring really shows itself. Have a good Imbolc.

What gorgeous photos and video work, thank you! Connemara is so totally different than the mountains of Vermont, which are more like Norway or Sweden. We have at least 2 feet of snow on the ground and it's snowing again tonight. I hope to see the ground again sometime in March, but we don't begin planting until May when the ground warms up. How nice to bless the bees! It made me think of that Carpenters song I have not thought about in years but when I searched it it was Bless the "Beasts" and the Children not bless the "bees" and children...but the words and sentiments of the song were just as lovely either way so thanks for prompting my mental detour to some beautiful music.....fits well with the beautiful images in today's film!
