Yes. Monitoring probes for belts and powerlines to detect different values such as boolean on/off, throughput, amount of power, etc, and then a monitor block to do stuff with those values. Alarms would be one thing and automating things another, for example automatically cutting the power from non-critical operations when certain conditions are met. We definitely need way more logic stuff than just the smart filter.

It makes sense that the system started charging as you managed the drones by hand. Once you loaded those first two drone ports, the uranium started to go, and that was the main issue - your system had thousands of sulfur backed up in it, since most of it is transported by train and only a little bit by drone, and only a few uranium per minute overall coming through it. Once the first two drones were online, the production started again on the plutonium rods, which let a couple nuclear plants kick back online. So, when the machines in the factory are mostly at a lull, it charges for a moment. The main thing is that I think you need some more reliable and completely disconnected power for the plutonium rod production. If you don't do that, then you're going to have some serious issues. Something like setting up a few fuel plants or even coal plants in the back of the place and having them able to set the whole thing running - with a switch there, they can simply detach from the rest of the grid and work unimpeded by fuse failures. Once the plants come back online, then it can reconnect and likely send the on-site power back into a standby mode (unfortunately that's only manageable by hand but just turn them all on first thing and it would be fine). Dunno if you want a self-sufficient fuel processing plant or just some coal slapped into place for it, though.

Funny timing for this video, because I just had a similar disaster nearly happen in my world. I was just minding my own business, working on turbo motor production when I noticed that many of my trains are showing the flashy exclamation mark of disaster. Including ones that deliver compacted coal to my turbofuel power plant. Oh no... If the refinery ran out of compacted coal, my whole power grid would shut down. So I quickly went and fixed the problem, and luckily one of the trains caught in the traffic jam had a full load of coal to unload, so nothing bad happened. It would have been very bad if I had been AFK when this happened. Oh, and by the way, I have a video idea: Back up your save, then intentionally cause the absolute worst-case scenario for your factory. Ran out of batteries, the nuclear plant completely full of waste and shut down, train traffic jams, etc. Then try to restart the whole thing. As this video and others demonstrate, you need good backup systems to get everything un-screwed up. This would be a good opportunity to test those backups and see where new ones are needed! Plus, I find disaster videos like this one entertaining!

Hey Kibitz, I have an easy emergency system for you to build to stop this mad rush happening again. Step 1: build a huge power storage bank at the nuclear plant to provide power to everything in an emergency. You can never have enough power storage. Step 2: build a "Main Isolator" switch that separates your nuclear power plant from the rest of the world. All external train stations and power lines connect to this one switch. How it works is if the system goes meltdown the only thing you need to do is turn the "Main Isolator" switch off to cut off all external power requirements to the nuclear plant. That way all the plant needs to do is produce enough power to run itself, not the other factories in your world. The huge battery bank also gives the system power enough run it while you trouble shoot or if the fuse ever blows, enables you to jump start it again once trouble shooting is complete. You can also throw some more switches in the power bank to save some for jump starting and some for emergency power supply if you want. I build all my power plants with these 2 things in mind, and I even leave my power plants isolated like that when I first turn them on to build up energy in the power storage and do a systems check, before I re-connect it to the main grid. Hope that helps!

I have actually planned for this scenario in the build I'm currently on. I don't know what it's officially called, but down at the south east corner of the map there's what I call the Blue Lake. There are 4 coal deposits and 6 crude oil deposits in that area, and in the early days of my build it's where I built my first major coal power plant which I've disconnected from the grid but it's still there. The coal is being sent somewhere else by train now but this old 64-burner coal powerplant sits directly on top of the mines that feed it, and the water extractors are just down in the lake. So for my power emergency reboot plan what I did was inside the coal plant I made a large bank of bio burners and a storage container full of solid biofuel and hooked it up to the same disconnected circuit that the coal generators are on. After that I made an entire facility next door to convert all the crude oil across the lake into fuel, which again, was switched off and disconnected from everything so it was just sitting there idle. So in the event of a total power meltdown, my plan is this. Go to the blue lake and switch on the bio burners and reconnect the coal mines to this new circuit. I have a strategic coal reserve there which is 10 industrial storage containers full to help it start. Then once the coal is burning I connect it to my idle fuel refineries, which should by my calculations start providing enough fuel for 128 fuel generators. I haven't built 128 generators anywhere but I probably have enough materials stored at my main factory to do it. Then once that whole system is set up I can somehow use it to jumpstart my nuke reactors hopefully. So that's my power failure contingency plan.

Without an alarm mechanism to tell you when you're on emergency power, your best bet with a battery backup is to put in a breaker and make it an offline backup. Your grid will blow but you'll know about the problem immediately and have the full battery bank available to find and fix it. Plus you can shed the nonessential loads from the grid before restoring power, to maximize the time you have and spare yourself the panic.

Might be worth making a by pass in the waste system. Say a smart splitter with every else going to recycling and over flow going to mass storage so if the recycling backs up it instead goes to mass storage and not clog up the system

really easy way to reboot the grid when you're at this point. Have local grid battery backups at each site involved directly with power generation. Activate those sites batteries ONLY if theres COMPLETE grid failure to get power back online. Use a buffer of raw materials to account for the miners being offline

I wonder if some adjustments were made to fluid lift heights in update 6, don't remember reading anything about it but I had a somewhat similar issue: As prep for U6 I had built a nuclear setup to replace my oil power (which was at the spire coast), I've had it running in U5 for several hours without any issues or buildup. However in U6 waste processing wasn't working and I found the issue to be the nitric acid production not getting any water due to not enough headlift, the fix was ofc. simple: just add a pump on the pipe, but something seemed to have changed with U6.

Maybe in addition to having a whole grid battery backup you could have isolated batteries for important things like your waste processing

Bunker-obelisk-some giant building, whatever. He needs like HUNDREDS power storage buildings. Or even better: tens of thousands of those. And i forgot how this building was called, so named it battery. Still... He needs this EXTRA power bank for his world.

This is in part why all my recycling, including the resource nodes for materials are all local. I am only processing the 300/m node in the north, and built my factory on or at the base of that mountain, so its nowhere near as impressive as yours, but If I have issues they are all within a few minutes walking distance.

Hey there, nice video, and OMG awesome base you have, I'm not 1% as strict and organized as you are :D That's why I hate drone ports. I don't use them at all, not relliable. Trains, in my opinion, are the right way to get the job done... A bit slower, and a lot of extra work to get them where you need them, but after that, they will continue to transport HUGE ammounts of resources time and time again, no matter what..

That's the exact reason, why I'm building a multi tier power network with multi tier power plants. Worst case I have to manually restart the grid, but that's just a bunch of power switches.

Honestly easy solution to allow for easy grid reboots is to separate everything by building and then separate each building by floor, then you can have a breeze doing cold starts

In one of my worlds I was working on building an absolutely massive turbo fuel backup system that would have enough fuel supply for a few hours to allow me to repair screw ups like this one. I had worked up the plans for building a plant that would provide something in the neighborhood of 100,000 mega watts of power, which isn’t as good as the nuclear setup but still would be good enough to get things back up and running. I couldn’t build enough continual fuel to keep it running constant but a field of large fluid buffers was able to make it happen. So much math to make so much stuff.

I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to just build a bunch of batteries?
@brunothehumble
@brunothehumble 2 жыл бұрын
@@satibel easier yes. But the fuel generators are a dormant backup i separate from the grid. If I build it right it can give me enough power to hard start a cold reactor setup which is very much a possibility in a dedicated server which I am now on one.

I think a way to get the grid back up and running if it ended up completely failing would be a temp power plant to charge your battery backup.
