Wonder how many people (myself included) thought the torch had been passed at Wimbledon. But I don't think enough folks gave Novak his due. Tied at a set apiece, then Carlos dominating the third set, you had to figure Djokovic wouldn't have enough left to do anything in the fourth, yet he did, and the match went to set 5 before Alcaraz prevailed. And now, here at Cincinnati, Novak says, just a minute, I'm still here and wins an epic showdown between age-wisdom and youth-firepower. US Open is going to be one for the ages...whether you're 20 or 36.
@heizeking35579 ай бұрын
that's why we shouldn't be so fast to judge, one loss and people are so fast to retire the players, what's that all about... I think we already learned after so many years that it's over only when Novak says it's over, like someone said, he'll retire only when he wants to, not when we want to

When you are the GOAT, you are the GOAT :-) Fed supporters were looking for 'too old' excuses a few years ago when Roger lost the Wimbledon final against Novak [although Roger had 2 match points on his own service]... Roger Federer at 20 would have lost to Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic too, would have lost with Carlos Alcaraz at his same age. Pete Sampras at 36 you can bet house he would also lost by a great margin vs Djokovic at his same age, so you cannot compare Sampras with Djokovic at 36. This is why Carlos Alcaraz is so good. Nadal at 20 vs Alcaraz, I do not know. Nadal was impressive at 20. Then, since very early Nadal always had to suffer great pain from his permanent foot injury and still is one of the three goats but at 20 free of injury he had won more Master 1000 than anyone. So we will not know if Alcaraz could have won Nadal at his same age, when he was still free of that foot injury. Still, Alcaraz game is more complete than 20 years old Nadal's

When Novak finally declines, who will challenge Alcaraz? If no one emerges and he stays healthy, he'll break all of Novak's records. Imagine if Novak, Federer, or Nadal hadn't had to compete with the other two of them. The result would have been 30+ to-40+ majors and 500+ to 600+ weeks No.1. If no one after Novak emerges to challenge Alcaraz, men's tennis will become boring.

How is it that Nole played one match in the sun and was so ill he needed two bathroom brakes and a medical time out in a three set match. Other players wouldn't have gotten the second bathroom break.... But hey 23 slams comes with a lot of privilege.

Novak did not outdo a 20-year-old He has this magic potion which nobody knows what's inside including the ATP and the international tennis federation and nobody seems to be bothered by it even though they make it in secret and cover their shoulders.

If you're going to start making accusations, you must mention Nadal and 2017 Federer. Be careful throwing stones in a glass house.

So what do you make of Rafa’s comeback win against Medvedev at the 2022 Australian Open final? Or his miraculous recovery from injury at the 2022 French Open. Rafa, Novak and Roger are monsters. No PEDs, no rule breaking. Those players are tested every tournament. They are not breaking any rules or taking any PEDs. Nobody is bigger than the sport. Lance Armstrong was the greatest cyclist of all time and he was taken down. If Rafa or Novak were truly doping, they would be busted and publicly humiliated.

Great match between the 2 clearly best players in the world -- the GOAT against the insanely good kid. But for me it was spoiled by my conviction that Novak is a fake, and did here what he has done numerous times before. When he starts losing, he suddenly is ill, and as soon as he starts winning, his illness magically disappears.Yyou can go back and check this all on the tape. Yes, he was clearly suffering from heat exhaustion, but I think it was way overdone. First of all, he started losing before showing any sign of a problem, but the second he was broken, he put his hands on his forehead as if he was suffering terribly and screamed to his team to get his pills ready. Then, in set 2, he suckered Alcaraz into believing he was dead, and the announcer didn't stop talking about how he might have to retire. Clearly, Carlos started letting up, either because he lost focus, or because he felt uncomfortable playing to hard against a "dying" man. and he was broken based on his own loose errors. As soon as he was broken, Novak suddenly started running around and displayed not a single expression of pain. Until suddenly, in the tiebreaker, the second Carlos went ahead, his hands went back to his forehead and he started grimacing, to protect himself in case he lost. I respect him for his incredible talent, willpower and insane achievements. But I'm sorry, I hate a faker. I think that is why Carlos was so broken by the loss, but I am sure he will learn from this never to be suckered in again.

Cant agree with you more - Federer never did that. Alcaraz was clearly perturbed by this pause in the game, Novak definitely stalled the momentum of Alcaraz.

And, Federer did this kinda thing, aways finished the match no matter what. Never "acted" his way to a victory. I expect a lot better from Nole, but here we are.

@lsmsrt You are one “smart” cookie. Totally agree with everything you said about Djokovic. I’ve been watching him for years and I’ve come to the same conclusion each time he’s behind in a match but he couldn’t do it to Alcaraz at Wimbledon with the whole world watching that’s why he smashed his racket in the final set when he was broken. He definitely had heatstroke but pushed it to the limit with the umpire and those two timeouts. Personally I feel you should only be allowed one toilet break and that’s it. The rules need to be changed regarding this. Funny how in the third set he comes back to life as if nothing happened. Carlitos and his team will learn from this and the other players on the tour need to up their game against this old man of tennis. Carlitos is the only one who can stay with him and beat him.

🧂🧂🧂😪😪😪 He took some pills to help with the headache/ dehydration etc. Of course you'd expect him to improve especially as the sun was going down and the court being fully in shade and him figuring out Alcaraz game. Djokovic overcame by sheer force of will not be taking some mid set breaks.

Novak didn t play well. He is always very hesitant from the baseline and tries to defend. Novak s backhand down the line is gone. Novak using slice so many times only helps his opponents. Novak did more unforced errors than winners.

Novak pull all the tricks to slow down Alcaraz momentum: bathroom break, medical timeout, making all the faces, but somehow stays in the game... when Alcaraz didn't feel well in Roland Garros, he only won 2 out of 12 games. Hope he doesn't fall for Djokovic's unportsmanship behaviors next time. We are proud of you Alcaraz❤❤

I don't think Novak was amazing. I don't think it is anyway a revenge by Novak since it was a three setter. A five setter is a different ball game. But it was a well contested, amazing match. Ball for ball. God bless both.

Why Djokovic had 2 toilet breaks in a match in 3 sets. The tennis rule is 1 break in a match in 3 sets and 2 in a match in 5 sets.
