Funny you mention her clothing because she designed it. She had her own clothing line and had two boutiques in Texas with plans to open up in other countries. She learned Spanish later in life, mostly through performance and I think later as her career got bigger by studying. She was the first Latin artist to crack the Billboard 200 with her posthumous album Dreaming Of You. This concert you're watching was recorded at the Houston Astrodome and broke the record with more than 60,000 people in attendance. It was also recorded just over a month before she died. Jennifer Lopez was picked to play her in the movie and was her breakout role and first as a lead.

Thank you so much ladies for reacting to my request of the Queen of Tejano, the great Selena Quintanilla Perez. Being a proud Latino, she was one of the brightest lights of our culture and of the music industry when she was murdered by Yolanda Salavar. Where Gloria Estefan, Freddy Fender, Santana and Linda Ronstadt had paved the road for Latino/a and Hispanic community, she brought into the stratosphere. I was living in Corpus Christi, Texas at the time when she was killed. Her death was overwhelming for many of us. She is one of only 3 musical artists I have ever cried over their death (John Denver and Karen Carpenter being the other two), but she remains the Queen of Tejano long after her death. There will never be another Selena but as long as we keep her music alive, she will be with us always! Thanks again for the reaction and I truly hope you enjoyed it! Don't be afraid to continue down that rabbit hole! You won't be disappointed.

It was Yolanda, the president of her fan club and manager of Selena‘s fashion boutique. She was a fan first and was obsessed with Selena. She was stealing money and Selena‘s dad/manager confronted Yolanda about it. I think she was going to “give” the money back and wanted to meet up with Selena in a motel. That’s when Selena was S*ot by Yolanda. Selena’s brother AB was the main song writer and bassist and their sister was their drummer. Unfortunately, their sister injured her foot so she didn’t play at this concert. J-Lo played Selena in the 90’s movie. There is also a Selena Netflix series that came out a couple of years ago. Definitely worth watching.

love this, you should check out several other songs from this same concert. como la flor, bidi bidi bom bom, chico en apartamento 512. i was a very little kid when she was alive but i remember my aunts and older female cousins just being beside themselves when she was murdered. if you compare her Vevo videos on youtube to other stars, even around today, you'll see that she is still just as popular today as major names. she was a trendsetter and designed most of her clothing, including this iconic outfit, had a boutique and a makeup line too. she was an aspiring actress and even co-starred in don juan de marco along side faye dunaway and johnny depp. and she is still credited with the latin explosion that happened almost immediately after her death. before her, spanish music and english music didn't mix. american venues were rarely filled with fans for spanish music, and american artists were never successful in mexico. this performance at the houston astrodome is still the record setter for the largest crowd in it's history. she broke the record from the year before that was her own record, and the same with the year before that. if she was alive today, she likely would be as big as whitney houston, paula abdul, mariah carey or any of her english language contemporaries. "i could fall in love" was her biggest english language hit.

You hadn't noticed that in this song she uses a different type of voice, similar to Britney Spears's vocal fry but not exactly the same... it's like a type of voice that is used when one is angry or demanding something...
