Tekken deserves a whole video on this topic. As a dinosaur Tekken player like myself (T1 release), I was there to witness it all. From an obscure, yet charismatic fighting game release title on PS1, to the pinnacle of mainstream (fighting) games with T3 during that era, to the experimental T4 and its "correction" T5. The aesthetic of Tekken remained more or less the same/similar, until everything changed with the release of T6 that marked to this day IMO the modern era of Tekken.

Worth mentioning the whole "ironic bathos" (untimely comedic tension diffusal) can be very attributed to Joss Whedon (see Buffy and Serenity into him directing Avengers). Coincidentally he was relatively recently ousted as a sex pest so make of that what you will. Also at least worth separating Western and Eastern trends even at the end of Capcom's disastrous Era of trying to appeal to the west (let's not talk about Donte) but it seems to be walking back a bit with "sincere in its goofiness" types like Yakuza and Tokusatsu starting to trend in some circles
