That's just to get the ship's power on. He forgot to turn the hand crank in the rear to start the engines... To power the shields, you need to rub a balloon on your head and press it on a metal power transfer plate.

That technique to start a Drake ship only works about 50% of the time the other 50% it might just blow up.

Perhaps I should make this an Arduino project where it randomizes the key pressed: 75 % to start the ship, 20 % to open doors and 5 % to enable self destruct. :D

For the Drake version have the switch pop out so you can hot wire it, The panel should be hanging by one screw show exposed wire. The gear lever should be replaced with a screwdriver.
