Just like Rome, Goku beat his enemies but then treated them nice and respected them so that they would become part of the Z fighters. Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, and Buu were all enemies that Goku defeated and then treated nicely to turn them over to his side. Some historians argue that the root of the downfall of rome was in fact the rise of a new degenerate religion: Christianity. Because Christians had new sets of values and generally thought less of anyone that wasn't Christian themselves they sparked xenophobia. But I doubt that Stephan Leukaemia wants to hear it was Christianity's fault.

@@SimonBuchanNz This is where I thought he was going, too. Alternatively, there's also the fact that a significant contributing factor to the fall of Italy was that the US had such a large population of recentish Italian immigrants, so a lot of Italians (both military and civilian) just didn't see the US as an enemy. They had American cousins, some of whom were in the invading army.

"Integration is a two-way process" This point can't be repeated enough. While immigrant attitudes do play a part, when you treat them like perpetual foreigners, they're much less likely to assimilate. People often overlook this and resort to victim blaming, which is why some white Americans here look at the divide between whites and blacks and blame it on 'black culture' (not even immigrants, more like unwilling slaves).

Progress is a false concept. The notion that history plods forward toward some arbitrary better future is a contrived way to justify among other things colonialism and the sentiments that evolved from that cultural identity even years after colonialism ceased. Progress for some is regression for others. Some people see NAFTA as progress towards the inevitable globalization of human social conduct, but NAFTA fucked over the Chipas in Mexico who revolted as a result of it. If you consider the reasons why people are loath to include out groups in their in group you will realize why some people come to believe in socialism.

Another interesting fact is that many of these "migrating" German tribes were comparable to Rome militarily. So, to be anywhere near the danger level of Rome, western nations would have to be facing migrant groups with the same military capabilities as their armies, which is of course far from true. No migrant group, for example, would even be able to come close to the strength of the US army

"Lebensraum" (Living space) is the idea that a species needs a minimum amount of space to be able to supply itself with food and other resources. Initially a phrase used in biology to study territorial behaviour in animals, it was later applied to humanity and used as an excuse by the Third Reich to invade other countries. "Liebensraum" is a play on words replacing "leben" (life) with "lieben" (love).

Machiavelli wrote interestingly on that subject, about how standing armies will eventually realize they can enact regime changes, rob the people without retribution and generally act like bandits. Which is why he recommended citizen armies instead of professional soldiers like the knights of Europe and the Praetorian Guard. A soldier must have a civilian life waiting for him, or else he will crave war and grow restless.

Boudicca is my favorite historical figure, no lie. It’s purely due to a bit of “theatre” from a podcast called “The British History Podcast” where they set up A battle of Boudicca with this cool Old West movie music and there was this moment where the Celtic armies were preparing for battle, and there was a shout from the Army. It was the Celtic word for victory. There was nothing else. “Boudicca. Boudicca”. The Romans were silent. Waiting. “Boudicca. Boudicca.” There was no stopping Lady Victory.

He could actually pull a Sargon and name his channel after Claudius, his favorite Roman emperor. But he would actually know something about his namesake and it would be relevant to his videos as more than just an inspiration for all the unjustifiably smug avatars drawn up for him by ass-kissing fan boys, so the parallel falls apart pretty quickly. I vote for something like "Dual Power Shaun" or "No Gods No Masters" to explicitly call out important and relevant leftist movements, personally.
