Agree, its like comparing pears to apples. Both are fantastic in their own ways, and both stand as solid pillars of BM. No need to compare them, everyone knows what they mean. Personally i prefer immortal's raw oldschoolish sound, but thats just my taste.

Screw anybody who argues that Immortal are/were somehow irrelevant at any point in their career. They were/are an essential band who helped raise the bar for black metal, in my opinion anyway. Anybody who insists that they somehow "sold out" or were not "Tr00" for daring to become good musicians with well-produced albums and not toe the line as far as being "kult" goes needs to get a life. They were great and I don't care who says otherwise.

what i heard was that hellhammer was asked by euronymou's parents to take out varg's bass part, but he didnt cause he had no clue how to redo it, but i dont really have proof on that, but i agree that varg shouldnt really be considered the bass player of mayhem

Well, I can't say I agree with you... He can hold his own live with the new Immortal songs, and they're pretty fast (some of them anyway), so I don't see why he should struggle with this. I mean, it sounds really messy too. And he shows little of his usual charisma here. The tremolopicking and chord changes in Battles in The North are pretty damn fast though...
