@BenCaamano Immortal rock of course, then Emperor are really great and quite easy, Mayhem are awesome and quite different from anything else. Marduk rules if you want brutality, Burzum is ambient and SO deep, Kampfar are really okay too (pagan stuff). Aura Noir are more into thrash/ black stuff and it's great if you like that. French bands Blut aus Nord and Pensées Nocturnes are awesome if you're looking for strange stuff. Visit the blog named Into thy Woods and you will find lots of bands. \m/

@varulv234 I meant it's not too harsh and it's rather melodic, it's not pure raw black metal. I think it's okay to begin in BM with Emperor, it's not too hard to listen to. It's "quite easy". imho.

Apparently no one understands what black metal is anymore. Mayhem are not overated, they are just a good black metal band. They had a famous history of course, but they also changed music forever. How many bands have copied them? A lot. How many bands wouldnt be here if it werent for them? A lot.

well,from what i've seen here,in some posts,some ppl compare CoB with Immortal.these 2 bands belong to 2 different gentres of music.Immortal is Black Metal (Black Metal is NOT ONLY about Satanism!!),and CoB is widely known as Extreme Metal (i really don't know what the hell that means,but anyway :P ).By saying that, there is no such "meter" of comparing. You can't compare black metal to CoB. Immortal is pure bm, CoB is more like a death popish band(dumb, i know). Immortal is probably one of the few bands that stayed authentic and faithful to what it is. Plenty of them have just included tons of stuff and changed a lot. A clear example is Dimmu, which isn't what it used to be on those good old stormblast/EDT days. I still like them, but not as much as before. Ever heard someone like Abbath? The guy is an institution as well as the riff master.
