This album always takes my back to my childhood that I’ve spent in Chukotka (the most desolated and north-eastern region of Russia, way more desolated and grim than Siberia). That was a kingdom of eternal night and frost, hardly any sun or summer. The sky was always grim and the wind so strong that sometimes it could easily blew the child or even bigger man away into the Arctic Ocean. No trees or grass could grow on that hollow ground. Just endless miles of grey and black ice covering the land hostile to any living being. It was mid 90s. No internet, no cellphones, no proper tv. I remember sitting in front of the window facing grim and lifeless bulk of grey ice called Arctic Ocean, listening the howling of stray dogs that lived under my house, reading the same book over and over again because there were no other books to be read. I was 13 years old or something. There was no perspective, no idea of happiness or purpose. The world was only made of gloom and frost. Of course I’ve never heard of black metal back in those days. But today when more than 20 years passed, I can safely tell that this album will be the most accurate description of my life in bloody Chukotka, one cold frostbitten abomination of the land.

They peaked at that time but the newer albums are still enjoyable. For as much could be said about BlackMetal being problematic Modern American/Anglo Rock essentially tried very hard to be RnB but for scared suburbanites or is trying to hard to be 80s or 90s Music whereas Black Metal has an actual soul to it.

Dafuq?! Their EP is Death Metal vomit! Dark Funeral's DM EP was lightyears ahead. Sure, 'raw' in DM terms, but THIS is raw as fuck in BM terms. It's revolutionary! I'm biased and 'kvlt' in a sense... I have this in original LP... but still... I can hardly listen to the DM Immortal, considering what kind of insanely awesome DM was coming out at the same time. its esoteric, either you get it or you dont. Only three bands are completely trve kvlt: Mayhem, Darkthrone and Burzum.( the early stuff 91 until 94 ish) Before that was too experimental, later stuff became trend. PS the trve kvlt thing is a ongoing joke in black metal, but it describes something that there are no better words for.

Unholy Forces of Evil 04:28 Hide lyrics Slowly crossing As red rivers run below Forever passing Where darkness lies unknown Where soul winds burn my eyes Where shadows of lost life hide Enter the centers of darkness Where all evil dwells Demons present in flames Oath to black souls found Sacrifices as old as the Earth Oh..We cut the living flesh Circles of the deepest black throne A promise of the darkest blood found Unholy forces of evil Unholy forces of hell It's the legend, the demons Where all are slaughter An mayhemic silence floats And we await our signs of death our circle's gathered Ceremonial powers belong to us A goat baptized in fire We dance the circle dance the thorns Awaiting the sign of the horns A thousand black clouds storm Blasphemous Northern rites Mysticism touched Pentagrams burning Into the centers of the darkness Where all evil dwells Demons present in flames Oath to black souls found The unholy forces of evil Unholy forces of hell It's the legend, the demons Where all are slaughter The unholy forces of evil Server upon our diabolic souls Cults of death bathed in slaught As the devil's candles burn Into the dark skies Floating with the soul winds of the pentagram To the death lights where the North star awaits 4. Cryptic Winterstorms 06:08 Hide lyrics A black sunset rises under a funeral sky The freezing waters below as mirrors made of funeral mist The blasting sky above and the fullmoon is on the rise My hair blows in the winds of reap Still I float with the cold diabolical massacre winds On the bestial wings of evil Above the mountainside and into cryptic winterstorms I long for eternal frost and black winters AsIeep is the cold lakes awake in the stars in the sky And silent the vaIIeys in the North Where I once were a proud warrior Where I belong where I bath my soul in doomfirefog Where I ride deaths cold winds in the battles in the North As a Norse warrior I rode the dark valleys With longsword in hand sworned to throne dark lands And to return to my master in the blue mist of the dying sunset A black sunset dies under the funeral sky My hair blows in the winds of reap Still I float with the cold diabolical massacrewinds On the overshadowed bestial wings of evil Above the mountainside and into cryptic winterstorms forever 5. Cold Winds of Funeral Dust 03:47 Hide lyrics Under a bloodred moon in the cold wastes of Thule Where wintershadows lies untouched Where I dwell at the mountains of madness In these shadows of death I march In the blue mist of evil Through the dark Northern valleys Where only winds of funeral breathes Hovering through the whispering darkness With frost in my eyes Only seven winds are heard Chaiming through the dark Northern valleys Eternity I pass eternity I seeked For the darkness my spirit For satan my black soul Under a bloodred moon in the cold wastes of another world Where wintershadows lies untouched Where I dwell at the mountains of madness Entering with the cold winds of funeral dust 6. Blacker than Darkness 04:17 Hide lyrics Out in the black night In the cold Northern breeze Under the red skies Surrounded by blasphemous winds Midnight passing and the moon is fulfilled Slowly blackening the sky I summon up where the ravens fly high Towards the moons of Blashyrkh Death rides on black winds Evil enter the sky Angels falls from the heavens While the darkness shines through Chariots of the darkest masters arrives on devil wings Heavens angels surrounded by frost Forced into the holocaust frozen clouds A twisted wind rapes the clouds Memories of cold days and lightning returns A foggy fullmoon night Into darkness ride Under the horned goatmoon As dark as black rivers at wintertime Horned Decembermoon come to me I ride the wings of Torment Blacker than darkness 7. A Perfect Vision of the Rising Northland 09:04 Hide lyrics Winter of the ages so dark so cold that flames turn to the bluest frost Mountains of ice rises above a dead and frozen ground The ravens returns to the hills And the Millenium black bells of eternal frost Chaim through the Northern lightning Upon the mountainside I stand The floods of black runs below Hair of a cold goatscalp I kiss Eyestaken mountains still breathes At one with the poisoned ground Midnight darksky open up A blast of red lightning rides the night With doom winds death angels fly Across a nearly closed skyline And the sun freezes at one with the infernal holocaust frozen clouds Centuries of doom reigned by the Goatthrone of desire Raised by sorcery to the Holocaust sky North black hordes storms Through invincible cyclones of frostwinds I lift my hands And join the ceremonial circle of one wind Eyes of stone now sleeps into eternal night This winter is forever A wind of red I rode A wind of evil cold For the years that have passed in the North Brought me visions of the Goatthrone of desire On the hillside where I stood left for another world Tragedies blows at horizon The sun freezes to dust A perfect vision of the rising Northland

Second wave bands just got rid of the trash metal elements and the musical traits became more prominent.

I remember the very first time i listened to this album, it was one of the coldest nights of the dark winter in the middle of a coniferous environment in Finland. My body was shivering uncontrollably, it was cold, so cold. I felt like my skinny appearance was turning to ice at any moment as i hardly managed to walk through my room. The ground was heavily snowy on the outside, i could´s see the thermometer through the window covered by ice, my hands were still frozen after i had taken a mail from the mailbox from our front yard 20 minutes earlier, i fought my way all the way to the mailbox and back, to me it was ragnarök, a struggle. I tried to calm myself down a little but i could not because of the cold atmosphere of the night, there was something in the air, something was going to happen, at that moment i could not understand it because it was yet to happen, i was afraid, i was alone, so alone. Then i managed to open my computer while desperately trying to warm myself up by drinking my pitch black coffee (without sugar ofc), at my computer. Then i started to listen to this album, i felt a cold winter breeze softly flowing through the room, then happened something i wish i would not have had to experience. i don´t want to think of it or reminisce, it was something...demonic. All i could functionally think during that moment, was to ask myself, why? Why was this burden laid upon my ears and soul? Odin alone knows the answer. This is one of the best black metal albums ever. This was my tragedy.

Hands down the best Immortal album. Can’t seem to get into any of the newer stuff but then I do prefer old school BM.

Hearing Abbath say "it's Delicious" makes my black soul smile. I imagine him saying that over a bowl of ramen or something. Kinda wanna make that a meme.

My review on Allmusic written August 7, 2020. 4 Stars Diabolical Full Moon Mysticism is the debut album from the iconic Immortal released in 1993 on Osmose Productions. Raw and evil, Immortal deliver an excellent slab of Black Metal dripping with brutality. While their follow-up, Pure Holocaust, would further hone their craft and become a classic in the genre, Diabolical Full Moon Mysticism should not be overlooked. Absolutely essential because it is an important first album from one of the premiere acts in Black Metal and it is very good. Highly recommended.

"Released in 1992, this album brought forth a new sound for the group, who had released a three-track low-fi death metal EP simply titled Immortal less than a year earlier." what a bunch of nonsense. the 7" was in the same style as the album. it was the old Immortal demo that was Death Metal. and the masterpiece is Pure Holocaust.
