My favorite Black Metal band by far, they make this perfect 'cold winter' music, it's not just music, it actually feels like an essence of winter of sorts. Immortal is amazing! At the Heart of Winter, Damned in Black and Sons of Northern Darkness my favorite Black Metal albums! Also the comical part is what makes them even greater! It resembles Loki in a way, not just generic "evil" like Gorgoroth or Behemoth, which feels like a bit too much in my opinion.

I hear you but what is really "pure black metal?" Sorry I am not one of those who runs around yelling "This is true, true...some idiots don't think it's "true" if something is released on a major label. For me I love Black Metal and even though I have been listening to Venom since they came out....WATAIN to me is by far the best B< band that ever lived and not just because their music is awesome. However you will have someone say something bad about them (how one could I will never understand) but all of this "true" shit..I don't go for it. At The Heart shows so much fucking talent, it is amazing. The guitars present such an awesome atmosphere. I hear you though. Some people will tell me how great Emperor is and I like their early work, especially Anthems but those dudes are a bunch of pussies for what they did in 1999, (when after 3 gigs of their 10c city US tour they went running home like a bunch of pussies pissing all over their fans who were dying to see them. I have no respect for that. I sued to work for NBA and Dimmu's first USA tour, half of the people who saw that tour saw it for FREE and places were half packed, if that. What did they do, they kept coming over to tour and their following became pretty big in the US and it still would be if they did not change their entire style of the band. To me it is much more about the music, it's ow much you care. I always loved Immortal but I loved them even more when they toured the US more than once. So as for "true?" To me nothing is totally "true." Touring is a BIG deal to me.
@bluewinter66605 жыл бұрын
He means the more heavy and thrash metal influenced riffing. I prefer calling it a different expanded style. Same with the hellenic scene (Rotting Christ, Varathron, Necromantia), which hasnt the second wave riffing, but counts as black metal!

Immortal are brilliant song writers. I don't know how to explain it but they know how to create an awesome, epic atmosphere without resorting to keyboards. They also have an exotic sound and their guitar work reminds me of Trey Azagthoth at times, and I love their guitar tone. They're definitely one of the most original and talented of the early Norwegian black metal bands. I've always loved At The Heart of Winter. Every damned track on that album is exceptional imo.

It's funny how you and a lot of people say that you wouldn't want to see how Immortal would turn out without Abbath, but the new Immortal album released by Demonaz pretty much shits on Abbath's album and it is as good as any other Immortal album. Im going to date myself but ti say they late to the metal is kinda true and im going in a good direction. I remeber being a kid in like the mid 80s but almost metal bands ..ugh i hate saying the word genre! That word crossex my mind once !..anyways all metal bands of the heavier sort that got started in the early to mid 80s all had this sound that immortal kept alive and you havent heard it in about 35 years or so. Being the production always had a raw sound..it didmt matter if it was possessed seven churches which was the first hardcore band i ever heard or Kreator or Venom or even the Misfits and even bands that are huge now...they all scared the hell outta me listening to em because of its rawness and it sounds real and like they all were recording in pit in hell or something. They all had it. These continued that.what they continued was it was real and they were real or least when i listened to the album. These guys have that f you attitude! Thats what all metal was back then! Loud rude obnoxious but also screw society and mainstream and the dudes that play in any hardcore now ..they would of got made fun of and called a lot of really bad messed things. Metal in the 80s it all had a black darkness. The album covers , we didn't have the internet so thats all we knew of the bands. It kept em very dark and almost like fiction. Like today metal bands will be sounding super heavy but singing about driving some car to a park and chasing butterflies and doing this while wearing a pink hoodie or something! I dont think anybody that was born after that era will completely understand it..they are to busy with labels and creating another genre. That right there is what metal was against and its a good fit . I could go on forever cuz i feel like i had this inside for about 20 years. So thanks for letting comment

My two favorite albums: Battles in the North + At the Heart of Winter ! I really really don't like All Shall Fall, but Northern Chaos Gods is kinda nice. I agree that Damned in Black is pretty much Thrash Metal, but At the Heart of Winter mostly reminds me of Heavy/Power metal. You didn't give enough credit to Damned in Black. It was a perfect product of it's age. Stuck Black Metal to Thrash Metal when other bands stuck to less than ideal musical ventures. In the end, the material is an excellent product both to own and to see live. You mentioned the two solo projects, but didn't include the "spinoff-band" called "I". It's like Sons of Northern Darkness-Lite. I consider the worst album Blizzard Beasts. Honestly Abbath and Demonaz are just two goofballs who probably aren't actually in a grudge, and Immortal, if continued, is best with BOTH of them in the band and on stage instead of any other way. They could even both do vocals at the same time intertwined, and they could definitely both write songs. It doesn't even matter who plays guitar and bass live. And Horgh pretty much earned being considered the third most important member after all the help he had done over the years. As for a possible additional musician, the Enslaved guys seemed willing to be helpful on and off. And Abbath has his Motörhead project called Bömbers where he could probably ask a guitarist to help out. Immortal is the Manowar of black metal. Whenever and wherever I looked around, Immortal always united each and every group no matter the differences. Every SANE metalhead likes at least something from this band.

You do not seem to have listened to Immortal long enough. You cannot even pronounce Blashyrk correctly. You criticize the first part of "Battles in the North"? maybe there is a problem with your ears. Not fit for Black Metal. "Blizzard Beasts" is written when the band was touring with Morbid Angel. You can hear the influence. That is why it sounds like that. Dull, uninspired??? Change your ears, really. It is so good. All after that sucks more and more. Maybe fit for you.
