My favourite song by Immortal Technique would probably be Caught in a Hustle, with honorable mentions to the One Remix, or Leaving The Past, The Martyr, and Bin Laden. But man, these bars out of Crossing the Boundary ("I used to be a Christian, and a political pawn. The bible is right, and all your native culture is wrong!") probably changed my life a bit in how cathartic it was for me to hear that described so directly. I was probably like 16 when Revolutionary Vol 2 was out, and was basically the neurodigvergent major underground hip hop nerd of the school lol. But yeah, being Māori, indigenous to New Zealand, that line always resonated with me really hard when we had Christian Missionaries calling Jesus Christ 'Ihu Karaiti', a transliteration of the name into the Māori language phonetics. But yeah, we really had them teaching "Ihu Karaiti" in public schools as genuine Maori culture. Seeing the cultural assimilation dynamics in situations like that made those bars a bit of a revelation. Seeing just how much discussions about all being the same really meant "you all should be like us". Revolutionary Vol 1 & 2 done a lot to make me feel more confident challenging authority figures on falling short of their social obligations when you break down the cultural dynamics

My favorite Immortal Technique song is " The 4th Branch" off the Revolutionary Vol. 2 album, second favorite song would be "The Poverty of Philosophy" off of the Revolutionary Vol.1 album, my third favorite song is "Rich Man's World (1%)" off of The Martyr mixtape.

I miss this kind of overtly revolutionary music. Dont get me wrong, billy woods, mach hommy and the like still make it, but there is a more abstract quality to it now. This year was really good with mach, elucid, blu, cavalier and more putting out GREAT stuff. But this kind of in your face, very blatantly left wing political stuff like Immortal Technique and dead prez has a distinct feel to it. There is some rumor dead prez is putting sth together, but we'll see

That being said, fav Immortal Technique song is the title track from The 3rd World. Crazy beat, punchy flows, and just all-around amazing imagery.

Watched IT rise in the early 2000's when he was underground and by the time 2011 came around he was washed up. A lot of strong messages but in the end proved that change, especially in the weird communist way he envisioned, is never gonna happen in the US.. From my perspective by the time I heard this "grown man" in 2011 rapping like he is a "soldier" when I had enlisted in the military and become one myself, just encapsulated how farcical his music had become. You cannot wash over his embracing of all fringe conspiracies and honestly consider his takes on society as valid in equal measure if you have any rationality within you. Homie is selling you capitalist raps disguised as communist rage virtues. Wake up people.

Nah. Tech is humble. He used the money from his last album to build a hospital in Afghanistan he puts his money where his mouth is for real. He sells you communist raps in a capitalist world theres nothing wrong with that the brother gotta eat. I'm pretty sure brother still lives in the hood and does a lot of community outreach. Just cause you make money in a capitalist society doesn't make you any less a marxist/socialist/communist/anarchist. There's actually a saying "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" Its inescapable.
