A new era of Thor begins with the Immortal Thor #1. After writing his critically acclaimed “Immortal Hulk” series, Al Ewing now attempts to top his previous work as he takes the reigns of the Thor series. Thor is the King of Asgard and has finally come into his own as king. However just as soon as Thor settles issues on his father’s side, his mother’s side comes with a reckoning. The elder gods who reside in the mysterious Utgard-lands have come to test Thor and his failure will mean the end of all things. The wheel hath turned and there is no going back.
Ewing’s Thor begins with a return to a more classic feel for the character, but he doesn’t stop there. Al Ewing offers some great characterization for Thor that really nails down the character. Ewing also stuffed this first issue with Norse Mythology, Viking Age history, proto Celtic gods, comic references, and more. So I’m going to do my best to break them all down for you.
