Mr. Mandela was imprisoned for 27yrs trying to overthrow the state government but when he released, he bounced back to politics and changed the world views on indigenous people for ever in South Africa and so as Fiji...."when the people fear the government there's tyranny, but when the government fear the people there's liberty". God bless Fiji.

So sad that George was brought in literally on the 11th hour to execute the coup, he wasn't even one of the main people at all. I know this based off what many Fijian chiefs connected to coup leaders have told me over the years. His eloquence in English and education was why he was asked the night before to join the coup. Nobody wants to talk about the Indians involved in funding the 2000 coup and how they were traitors to their own community. Personally, I'd agree to let George go, he never was the mastermind behind anything sadly.

@@nitatamani2126 So you think racial division and short sited governing is in the benefit of the country. Fiji would have been insanely cash positive on a balance of trade today if they had continued investing in sugar and coconut farms but no we needed to give land back to traditional owners who did nothing productive with it and at the same time would not be happy if they didn't have access to technology.

In 1970 at Fiji's independence Fiji and Singapore had similar GDP; Fiji 50c was worth NZ$1. A nation full of hope and potential. Thirty years later (year 2000) Singapore was twenty five times bigger and George still cannot speak the Fijian language. :-(
@sawittwo4 жыл бұрын
Good facts! Singapore is a small Island Nation equivalent to the size of Fijis 3rd biggest Island. There got to be a big difference between the two geographic locations.
@duaruatolu92484 жыл бұрын
... why? 'cos the old PMs like Mara et al. used the race card at elections. Sg got rid off this ... it is a booming economy with various races leading a harmonious life, albeit with some elements of racism etc. Fiji - the way the world should be, the old Air Pacific jingle. We were kids filled with ambition to do our best for our country, but little did we realise that we would have to tear ourselves from our land, families, loved ones, etc. since we became enemies in our own land, pitted one against another. The likes of cebo rambo and this hate speight broke that to shreds. Those accountable ... probably never brought to justice, but karma will rip right thru their rear. I agree with you Namasi, we could have been so much bigger than just a rugby 7s nation. Alas, suffer the children, iTaukei and non-iTaukei. We are one blood, we should look after each other. Vinaka.

All the Taukei Ni Gele in the prison, so whose doing the planting. It's easy to say Taukei Ni gele, but to fertile that land it needs effort n time like my great grandparents did when first arrived on the jungles of Fiji Islands. Today with their sweat and blood they made Fiji Islands beautiful for generations to come and never look back. Look the Indian generations in Fiji hard working, some running supermarket, bus companies, n some small shops n manufacturing company. As the saying goes Mountains don't move despite how loud the dog bark. A rising sun, surely it will set. Taukei Ni Gele, It's the God himself. Surely he has appointed time for every Individual to return to the darkest. grave.
@nsdkido Жыл бұрын
Its "Taukei ni Qele" not Gele. Secondly, your indian forefathers did not build Fiji. It was the kindness and goodwill of the Fijian chiefs in partnership with the Colonial government that saw it fit to offer your forefathers the opportunity to build a home in Fiji. Thirdly, Fijians were planting acres of crops before Indians came for their subsistence and village community needs. For you to suggest that Fijians are in some way lazier than Indians when it comes to agricultural farming, only reveals your stupidity.
