The Mongols were good at transferring technologies, but it is not emphasized enough how much damage they caused in the long run to the growth of science and innovation in Asia. China, Central Asia, and much of the middle east was doomed to backwardness in the aftermath of the Mongol conquests. Eastern Europe was wrecked as well and the prosperous kingdoms around there such as the Kievan Rus were destroyed. It left Western Europe edged ahead of the rest.

You're right, I probably should have gone into more of the negative effects beyond the Black death and European Imperialism (which I kind of covered neutrally to avoid dwelling on it too much). If I were to remake this video I would probably include something about the destruction on the destruction of the House of Wisdom during the siege of Baghdad, since that was a tragedy comparable to the burning of the great Library of Alexandria that isn't nearly as well known. The primary focus of this video was discussing changes that had positive effects (positive in the sense of, like "this happened because of this" rather than "this didn't happen because of this", not in the sense of "good"), which is why I didn't go into the effects of destroying a lot of the areas they took over. Like, destroying prosperous states prevented said states from progressing, but we can't know what would have happened if things had gone differently. If I'd covered something like the Kievan Rus, for example, it wouldn't be to point out that the Rus was unable to have global impacts as it hypothetically may have without the Mongols, it would be to point out how the Mongol conquests of the area shaped the development of later Russia.

dont put the middle east in this group , aside from the fall of the house of wisdom(the great abbasid library )with the fall of bagdad it is duo to incompetence of rulers and them stopping the progress of science to make their rule easier like how the mamluks forbid farmers from moving to the cities thus denying them from free large labor that made it easy for venice to control trade

The problem with the Mongolian Peace is the same one with any Peace order, it is forged from conquest. Although the Mongolian religious openness is quite a interesting thing for the time period, so often were religions used for the assimilation of conquered lands, one might say this could've been a reason for their untimely dissolution into smaller states.

Btw the visuals with the avatar are kinda... Generic, not that it's bad or anything. It's just overdone in the video essay/informative video style. Especially for early KZbinrs. Still is an excellent video.

@@captainjam6651 I primarily use the avatar to fill in the blanks where I can't find relevant images (and occasionally to back up jokes with certain facial expressions), so it's kind of a choice between that and lingering on pictures for too long in most cases.
