Eco mode is for fuel efficiency it will only higher the load depending on the device or tools demand

Yes, but the point I noticed was that with the selection switch in the ‘eco off’ position it was varying rpm to compensate for load. So to my mind the switch is backwards

If you have still got this generator, how is it running and has it been reliable?

Yes still have it, but don’t have a need to use it that often. When we do need it thought it starts on the second pull every time

This primarily to charge models at a model event as well as running an electric cool box/fridge to keep the weekends food fresh. And keep beers cold
