As another viewer mentioned, the long term LTVA permit is good up topside camping areas but down on the water front requires another permit.

We enjoyed our stay there. We are in the class C MinnieWinnie @ 8:05 in the video. It can get a bit windy but it's nice being able to see the water from our RV. Not sure why so many seem to cluster in Quartzsite when this is available and so close to Yuma.

I spent many years as a child camping at Senators. What I found interesting is how quickly the water levels changed from day to day. We would wake up to a flooded camp or dry boats. We always made the best of it.

I spent 3 years over at the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds just east of the river on the Arizona side, between 1975 and 1978. Neat to see your video of the area. Can't count the number of times I drove to Yuma down Imperial Dam road, thru Bard and Winterhaven. 18 miles from the main gate of the base to 4th Ave and 16th street in Yuma.

I grew up in Yuma & since my Dad worked at Imperial Dam we lived a number of years in government housing near the dam. Best years of my life. Incredible place.

Squaw Lake and the opposite side of Senator Wash, are separate fee areas not associated with the LTVA, for anyone interested. Squaw Lake is part of the Colorado River system but Senator Wash is a standalone lake. The Imperial Dam LTVA area is vast, with this video just touching the surface for the camping areas. I normally spend Christmas/New Year timeframehere due to the access to Yuma. Added bonus is the Christmas parade (decked out ATVs complete with Santa) and you get to celebrate New Year twice due to the close proximity to Arizona/California that have a 1 hour timezone difference. Thanks for posting this one, Russ.

In about 1964 Senator's Wash was being built. On a weekend when there were no workers there, a buddy and I took a dune buggy down into the wash & drove all around the construction equipment. There were big rock outcrops where they were not moving the dirt around & were left as they were. I know where they are & that is where the fish hang out. Lots of fascinating things about this area.

The structure you referred to as the Dam is actually a pump station that pumps excess water released from Parker Dam into Senator Wash for temporary storage until it can be released for use for downstream water users, irrigation districts. When it releases water it actually produces electricity. Imperial Dam is just downstream of this structure. There is only two reservoirs to temporally store water once it is released from Parker Dam, Senator Wash and Brock Reservoir. (these two reservoirs are used to reduce the amount of water sent to Mexico in excess of treaty).

Love that place! Senator Wash is the best! Love that area! You do need a special pass for $75 called the Arizona Pass to park in restricted area like North Beach. Very bumpy road and a lot of locals invaded it on weekends with no pass. Just kind of took over! So I like the AZ Pass and it moves with you also. Can go to Cibola NWA. You are right Senator Wash.

Interesting thing if you like geology. On the way to Senator's Wash, on the left at the T-intersection on the right going to Imperial Dam is evidence of a 600,000/800,000 year old volcanic eruption from California. You can clearly see about 2 feet of volcanic ash on top of normal dirt, with normal dirt on top of the ash. Very interesting.

Thanks Russ. That LTVA area looks interesting. My wife and I are leaving soon for a several month tour of the West. I know some campers disapprove of using a generator but , since we will only be doing this probably one time, it doesn't make sense to spend hundreds if not thousands on solar. If we had to do that it would make the trip unaffordable for us. We hope to use BLM land a good bit and I know we will have to run our generator some. It's an on board Oman 4000. Not the quietest but not bad. We will be as considerat as possible and camp away from people when we can. Thanks for all the tips on places to see. Maybe we'll see you on the road. Your's is one of the few videos I watch on a regular basis. Keep up the good work and happy Easter. 👍👍🙏🙏

That clear blue aspect of the lower Colorado is not natural. Most of the silt has settled out in all the reservoirs the river passes through. May be appealing to the eye, but the absence of the nutrients it carries is killing the Sea of Baja.

@@TreeLBollingTreeMan Well, I have lived in the Desert Southwest for years. I moved to Tempe, Az. in 85'. I had a 84' F-150 4x4. Around 1988 I took it in for an oil change. The mechanic laughed and said that I'd be trading it soon. Why, I asked? No A/C was his reply. Well Mr. I lived here since 85', and I like this fine. I lived in an old Winnebago Chieftain for years. No elect or A/C. In Chandler Hts., Phoenix and Yuma. For years. I am currently in the Daytona Florida area. Sanford and Orlando are far worse in MHO. The humidity is dreadful. Back to the Desert soon I hope. Hate it here.
