The same LTVA permit that works at Imperial and Quartzsite also works at the LTVA west of Yuma near the Imperial Dunes as well as the Hot Springs LTVA near Holtville, CA and also a couple LTVAs west of Blythe, CA.

The lake at 15 minutes is Senator Wash. In the late 70;s and early 80's I camped out there a lot and explored the trails on a Honda big red three wheeler. Lots of old mines and primitive shelters way out away from the wash. Good times. Some times we would have 5 or 6 three wheelers making a trip. Safety in numbers. Used to go way out, find a canyon and setup a temp firing range and plink away for hours. Hop on the three wheeler and back to the wash and camp. Back up S24 toward Winterhaven was a convenient store/bar we would go to have a beer and cool off and get ice and groceries. It was called" Cole's Corner".

Hi Russ, cool Video. The Reservoir you were at is called Senator Wash. It is used to temporarily store excess water that was inadvertently released from Parker Dam. The water is pumped into the Reservoir but when its released it flows through turbines and generates electricity. The Reservoir is low because some years ago a problem with seepage, in the bottom of the lake, was discovered so they keep the lake low because of this (and yes it is safe). There is only two places to store excess water downstream of Parker Dam, one is Senator Wash, the other is Brock Reservoir off the All American Canal. Imperial Dam is the last control point for water released from Parker Dam. Water flows from there to the All American and the Imperial Valley, the other is on the East side of the Dam into the Gila Main Canal which services the Yuma Valley area.

The first dam is Laguna Dam. The next one is Imperial Dam. We're from Yuma & that is where I grew up. My dad worked for the Bureau of Reclamation & we moved over to the CA side & lived near the Dam for some years. It was wonderful, the lakes, reservoir, the dam and the river, it was a great place to live.

At 6:25 you were at Senator's wash. It was a large wash emptying into the river. In about 1964 they decided to put a dam on the bottom side of the wash to make a water storage area. My buddy and I drove in the bottom of the wash when they were building it.

Russ, you missed a great spot for camping on BLM, if you go past the army base the next street to the right takes you up the hill past a church campus, go up to the top of the hill, turn left and there is a very large BLM area overlooking Yuma. Great spot for off-roading and camping.

That trailer park across from Laguna dam got shut down about 6 years ago because of septic problems, it is two close to the river, the lake is Ferguson lake, good duck hunting in the fall, the mountains to the west are the chocolate mountains, lots of mines and still have gold, if you come back with your ATV you can off road for miles, you could find me dry washing or metal detecting down one of those washes, great video Russ, keep up the good work.

The concrete pad was a dance floor at one time, complete with a roof for sun shade. I believe it burned better than 10 years ago... Many so called free camping areas are now being restricted. Many long timers with channels are now moving into the homesteading community. The vandweller lifestyle has jumped the shark. Idaho authorities will definitely confront anyone with out of state plates, unless you are in a designated fee camping area.
