In a battle between the Enterprise D and an Imperial Star Destroyer, who would win? British Ben is back for another Star Wars / Star Trek mash up! A year or two ago we did this video with the Enterprise E, but this is the version with its predecessor the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D.

Whole Vader-Diana thing is misunderstanding. Diana is only a empath, not a telepath. Not that strong on top of that. She would not cancel the force choke (Vader also could't do that on mass scale). Whole subplot is a mistake. Furthermore Piccard don't hate kids, on the contrary! He just has stick in ass and can deal with them, even if he want. But he actually would be deeply concerned if something would happen to them.

I disagree. Picard may be a talanted commander, but he comes not even near Thrawn, who was one of the best commanders among a Navy of half a Galaxy - while the Federation Navy is very small compared. Picard may be among the best inside their ranks but they are neither that much trained for war as the Imperials not is there such a competition, so being first among Star Fleet would mean much less than say being among the best ten (or hundred) of the Empire would mean.

The best she could do would be telepathically assaulting Vader to try to make him stop. Now if Vader was using the offensive form of battle meditation to impair the enterprise crew, that could plausibly be something that a powerful telepath could protect against.

They also fail to take into account the laughable defenses a star destroyer has and their lack of knowledge of the Enterprise D... They'd better hope they could maintain broadsides on it because if it got behind them with that spinal lance it'd be all over... Engines, shield and communications would take a direct hit. Another thing with the Enterprise and ships of the Starfleet universe in general is that they fire particle beams, not lasers. The same could be said for the ISD though, as the bolts are actually a form of highly unstable ionized gas. This fight is so hypothetical it's painful, they failed to take into account that the saucer section has its own shields among other things

@@mrbuttocks6772 First off, yes you are correct on some parts, some games aren't canon but if you search it up fallen order IS deemed a canon game meaning the events that occurred in it did happen. Secondly, if you actually do the math and punch some numbers Vader is actually so strong that he is pushing 136,586,969,32 kg (13658696.932 metric tons) OF WATER AWAY, USING NOTHING BUT THE FORCE. You realize how strong somebody must be in the force to do that? Vader would absolutely crush that's guy's neck no matter HOW strong that machinery is. Vader is a beast.

Enterprise D was designed for "exploration". Enterprise E had a much more "tactical" design. However it would also depend on what time also. During the dominion war most Federation ships were retro fitted with quantum torpedoes.

Wouldn't matter. Each turbolaser shot is, based on evidence seen onscreen, roughly equivalent to 3 photon torpedoes. With 60 mounts firing around once per second, it's putting out 180 torpedoes per second worth of firepower. Plus ion cannons, concussion missiles, and any other nasties it decides to fire. Wouldn't matter what Star Trek ship it was. One volley hits it and RIP. I love both universes, but this is honestly what you'd expect from a universe where faster-than-light space travel is, canonically, thousands of years old, versus mere hundreds in Star Trek, and ships regularly exceed a mile in length.

@@WardenWolf What the heck is this based on? Each photon torpedo is the *minimum equivalent* of 64.4 MEGATONS OF TNT. The most powerful bomb ever built was only 50 Megatons of TNT. One torpedo launcher can launch 10 torps at a time, and the Enterprise-D has at least 250 torps in stock. A turbolaser is just a laser, and even a freighter like the Millennium Falcon took hits from a Star Destroyer. Also, the Enterprise-D can change the frequency of it's phasers to all but ignore enemy shields. Star Wars tech does not allow for changing shield frequencies or even scanning to pinpoint shield frequencies.

The Enterprise-D might be slower and less maneuverable that the E, but she would still fly circles around a plodding stardestroyer. The Enterprise could stay out of the destroyers range and in the tactical blind spot in the aft quarter of the Stardestroyer raining down phaser and torpedo fire on the engines and even the bridge tower.

@@neorenamon turbo lasers are plasma that use a heated form of exotic gas not conventional lasers. Laser wepons tend to be lighter anti starfighter emplacments not the main guns. as for weapon yeild in empire strikes back they vaporize large asteroids with one hit but rebels has a jedi dodging a full scale orbital bombardedment outmin the open well running to cover beneath the shields so they have a plot variable yeild ranging around a modren hand grenade to massive multigigaton blasts that make modren nukes look like firecrackers depending on the proximity of major characters. As the enterprise is a hero ship filled with main characters the star destroyers main battery would be next to worthless. That said if placed against a federation ship or even a borg cube or scimitar without main characters on board said ship would be wiped out by a single volly as the lack the plot armor needed to reduce the yeild of the weapons like kanen in rebels or the melinium falcon.

Considering that the NCC1701 could destroy a planet by itself. NCC1701-D had the ability to either save or destroy a planet with a single phaser. A proper matchup is an ISD-2 vs the Galileo shuttle to Maybe a Danube class run about.

The only thing Trek doesn't have is hyperdrive which is basically going into a different dimension to travel vast portions of the galaxy in a short amount of time compared to Warp drive which is based off the speed of light meaning it could take years at maximum warp to travel the same distance.

There are some real indications we can get from both universes. For example, in Empire Strikes Back, Star Destroyer turbolasers were seen obliterating large asteroids with a single shot. Meanwhile, in Star Trek, we have seen that phasers do not do nearly as much damage. Photons come close, but these are always fired several at a time and thus it can be inferred it would require at least 3 photon torpedoes to get the same destructive power as a single turbolaser shot on an unshielded target (accounting for the fact that the turbolaser shot may have been overkill). Turbolasers, of course, can fire much faster than photons and aren't really limited in their ammo supply. Furthermore, we have the respective faster-than-light speeds of the different universes, with even the slowest Star Wars ships being far and above faster than the fastest Star Trek ships. This basically shows us that the power levels of both the weapons and engines are much higher in Star Wars. In other words, a single turbolaser shot would be equivalent to at least 3 photon torpedoes. Furthermore, the Star Destroyer's shields are designed to shrug off such weapon hits for an extended period. In other words, the Enterprise wouldn't stand a freaking chance. They could fire everything they've got and maybe knock off 10% of the Star Destroyer's shields before being obliterated, but they're NOT going to win.

In fact, wasn't a star destroyer taken down in an asteroid field? Some asteroids are pretty big and neither would do little without going all out. The Enterprise D went deep inside one. So they're big in both universes. They both failed to one shot big asteroids but both can one shot small ones. I think that's not a good measure.

Because the enterprise is huge, star fighters are small. Hitting a small fast target is much harder than hitting a fast large target. Plus the Rebels have serious plot armor in the starwars universe. The Enterprise has favorable plot armor in the starwars universe. Gotta take away plot armor.

@@fediken83honestly I don`t really believe in comparisons like this, especially with so "well-thought" Star Wars universe. E.g. in Star Wrek movie Federation ships couldn`t use shields because of Babylon 5 ship`s weapons, just because movie creators decided to do it that way. So it makes no sense to me... but anyway, doesn`t ISD use lasers which is fairly outdated technology in Star Trek? What if couple of phaser spreads and several launch torpedos will completely annihilate the ship? Fighters could be a problem though. That will be the 1-st thing ISD will do. 72 is really a lot.

@@spaceexpireaudio666 hit enter too soon lmao. The movies/shows are where we get most information. ISDs chased the Millennium Falcon into an asteroid belt. And they dove head first into the belt looking for them. Their shields taking hundreds of impacts every hour, yet their kinetic shields held. Using pd blasters and light turbolasers to shoot the largest rocks out of their way. Only one ship was lost/struck by a rock the size of an apartment building. Because it fell out of formation just slightly and one rock slipped through the pd. The technology in SW isn't outdated. It's different. Because the setting is different. SW favors pragmatic and reliable designs ment to get the job done. While ST favors highly technical and experimental ideas. One is a Union of species trying to create utopian culture and the other a galactic empire of conquest trying to survive.

hell if the WH40K people were in a fight and managed to win against either the first thing they'd do is try and blow it out of the sky, broadsides with an ISD wouldn't work but if it's speedy enough suddenly they can reverse engineer the hyper drive and go to light speed mostly risk free, along with shield before you ask/say why a broadside *would* work (assuming you dont know much about starwars, if you do then ignore this), it wouldn't due to ISDs being made for fighting it out, capital ship vvs capital ship style. in short it's meant to fight still opponents and exchange fire, but not deal with small and/or mobile fighters, like standing in front of an A-10 warthog versus running for cover, the ISD is made for you to stand still and take the beating.... i could've explained this better but im not braining well atm and i dont wanna hold down back space for a minute

Turbolaser firepower easily exceeds 6700 terajoules per shot, even from medium-sized cannons. If we apply this to the concept that the shield of SW vessels can absorb volleys of fire equivalent to or exceeding this I don't see how any fed ship can even punch through the shields of an ISD. You could for sure skirt the effective engagement range of almost any SW vessel. they're weirdly WW2 in the way they fight. But I don't think the enterprise could actually vape it's enemy using conventional means.

Remember Star Trek sensors basically open up an instruction manual for what other ships can do, they will scan the Star Destroyer and find its weak points, heck they could just go to warp, target it with torpedoes from way outside the Destroyer's range and blast it apart, remember torpedoes can be fired from millions of kilometers away and at warp speeds, Turbolaser range is only a few thousand miles from what I have been able to find. When you can outrange your opponent from that far away and have faster sub-light speed and maneuverability it becomes a pretty one sided contest.

Except that idea forgets basic human psychology which suggests any threat to children will make us fight harder and meaner. While l acknowledge that the UFP is more than humanity alone, most other Trek species are shown to be extremely focused on family continuity. Threaten me? I'll stop you. Threaten my children, I'll kill you and maybe your next of kin just in case they had any ideas. Then there are the myriad of technology reasons that show why Trek would defeat SW.

Why would the star destroyer get a breather when the enterprise engages the TiE fighters? There were able to fire and target the phasers and torpedoes simultaneously on different targets..

This all sounds fun when you literally stack the deck. I'll admit that As far as the D goes it wouldn't as maneuverable as the E. I truly have a hard time seeing how the SD sensors would be that accurate. Now with saying that they'd be looking for weaknesses, so would the D. They'd be having full scans of the ship. One interesting piece of information. Would be how weak the bridge shields ar on the SD.. I would think once a red alert was announced all those children would be in a secure shelter deep in the ship. The SD has mass but that's most of it. their shields would be no match for what the D has. We've seen Vader force choke from a distance but only one person. Never a group let alone a whole crew. The turbos lasers may pack a punch but the ion cannons would be a joke to the D. The SD does have an advantage as far as traversing the Galaxy with it's hyperdrive. That said once the D went to warp there'd be no way to keep up. Oh and to go back to the OG force choke of Picard. As soon as that happened., Either Worf or Data would have fired a barrage at the bridge of the SD where Vader was. It may not have destroyed the bridge but it def would have broken his concentration. One last point, the tie fighters. Your right they wouldn't be much against the D. Though it would not take soo long that a detailed scan by the SD could happen. Direct evidence comes from a TNG EP where they were attacked by ships similar to TIEs. Lets just say 2 seconds after they engaged they had been dealt with. In the end i'm not saying the D would win, but it wouldn't have been so lopsided a disaster either.

Hey, what about both Enterprises fighting the star destroyer. Let’s say the Enterprise E was there when Nero was pursuing Spock (If my memories served me correctly, this event took place after Nemesis). Then, Enterprise was also sucked into the black hole but instead of going back to the start of the Kelvin timeline, they were transported back to when Generations happened and encountered the Enterprise D when it had just encountered the Duras sisters’ Bird of Prey. Then, seeing the D being attacked, the E joined the fight and easily destroyed the Bird (not before the D beamed Georgi back). But then, the same black hole that sent the E back in time suddenly appeared and sucked both ships in, the D was leaking Plasma because of the attack and accidentally turned the black hole into a portal connected to the Star Wars universe. At the same time, Darth Vader’s star destroyer was orbiting an unidentified planet in the unknown region when the two Enterprises appeared on the other side of the planet. E’s Picard hailed the D only to be greeted by D’s Picard (E’s Picard hasn’t looked at the name of the D and thought it was another Galaxy class), both were shocked but then D’s Data explained that the black hole must have pulled the E back in time. Suddenly, both ships were hailed by Vader and after a small “friendly chat”, a fight broke out. I really hope you guys consider this idea and keep up the good work!

The first couple attacks would probably eliminate half the crappy turbo laser canons since they’re actually manned turrets that fire laser blasts. The Enterprise on the other hand has an Omni-direction phaser array which can move independently and can lock onto objects with help from the Enterprise’s targeting sensors which are a lot more accurate then a bunch of stormtroopers in turrets firing in their general direction.

@@decimation9780 No it wouldn’t. Here’s why: When a Star Destroyer accelerates to faster than light (FTL) speeds, it enters the alternate dimension called “hyperspace”. At that moment, it stops existing in what we call “real-space” and transfers its existence to hyperspace. Therefore, it could not overtake it because they do not simultaneously exist in real-space. Although every part of hyperspace leads to a certain part of real-space, there is no way to know where each positions lead to unless the information is stored on the navi-computer. Even if you did have all of the information on where every part of hyperspace leads to in real-space, you would still have to jump out and in of each bit to be able to scan for the Enterprise. I suppose if they knew the exact velocity the Enterprise was travelling, they would be able to calculate where the Enterprise would be at any given moment, but because the Enterprise would be accelerating to one of its high warp factors it would quickly exit the scanning range of the SD meaning that they would not know their speed. Furthermore, the reason that this would occur is because the Enterprise has the technology to travel thousands of times faster than the speed of light for continuous periods of time. Even if there were a way to stop the SD from entering hyperspace once it accelerated to light-speed, it would still be travelling through real-space at a much slower rate than the Enterprise-D would, so either way, the Enterprise-D would escape the Star Destroyer.

Secondly, the Star Wars galaxy is of similar size to our own, and it takes the slowest ships in Star Wars, which means they possess Class V hyperdrives, up to a week to go from one end of the galaxy to the other. The galaxy class starship is the fastest Federation vessel, and that kind of trip would take a couple of months for it. Star Wars' FTL travel is one of the fastest in science fiction/fantasy. Imperial Star Destroyers are equipped with a Class II hyperdrive unit, allowing them to travel across the galaxy in a matter of days. So while the Enterprise-D May move faster in real space, if they both set a destination for Coruscant, and they were both in the outer rim, the Enterprise-D would find the Star Destroyer waiting for it the moment it got there, having been waiting the entire time the Enterprise was moving at maximum warp.

ValorJ Omega The Enterprise has a very poor record of foresight. Remember, every Enterprise, barring the ones created by the US Navy, were exploration vessels. Even the Enterprise-E and all Enterprises that came after were exploration vessels, albeit highly armed ones. The first thing they would do is move closer, which is the exact opposite of what they should do. Compared to an ISD, the Enterprise-D is very small, and while it was still a Galaxy class starship and the flagship of the Federation of United Planets, it wasn’t meant for combat against a ship built for war. It also doesn’t have a very good track record against ships much larger than it. It’s also unclear how the weapons of each ship would effect each other, though in terms of raw firepower the Enterprise-D is laughably outgunned, so if their weapons are of similar power, one is going to get shredded way before the other.

There broadside and mussel to mussel. The ships dont seem to maneuver at all. SD as cool as they are have no defence on there 6. ST has maneuvering, tactics, and long range firing. SD shields are easily destroyed because there on the outside. 1 v 1 the only way a SD has vs E is if it hide behind a planet and ambushed. Ships never fight 1 v 1 so not sure how a fleet action could come out. Shields are questionable for both side as to what they will and wont do. If we ever make it into space I think it will be more B5 than trek or SW

@@jagsdomain203 halo is a good one future space exploration in my opinion, also yeah what you said is actually acknowledged in universe, ISDs were really. really outdated tactics wise despite having a 'new' design. though the time period should also be taken into account, there are later models which have rear defense, and for larger ships later in the timeline were carriers, if we want to compare something it shouldn't be the ISD which is designed to obliterate other heavy, (relatively) slow capital ships, but a squad of either TIE strikers/defenders/interceptors or X-wings & Y-wings. more maneuverable and in the case of the Y-wing, had a rear turret, optionally operated by a droid

TOS Episode "The Changeling": 2 meter long target, 90K kilometers away, one shot, one hit. Galaxy class likely better on both counts. They get a sensor scan of their own to find the exposed shield generators, they're gone, and then so is the the Stardestroyer. TNG Episode "Conundrum": 47 unshielded strike craft taken out in seconds. 72 Ties would last about a minute tops. Star Trek can jump to warp at will and can fire while at warp, Star Wars needs time to calculate and as far as I know cannot fire while at FTL. Even the Galaxy class is still vastly more maneuverable than the lumbering Stardestroyer. I think it was Shadiversity or Ekart'sLadder that put it best; If the Stardestroyer is able to do enough damage quickly at close range, Star Trek ships are in trouble. Once at any meaningful range though, the Stardestroyer is toast. So that early volley is key. Some debate how ion weapons would affect Starfleet ships, so hard to comment on that one. But even impulse speed could gain that distance very quickly. Sorry, but your video does not take any of that into account. Therefore it's not as well done as it could have been.

The only difference between the D and the E would be maneuverability. Phasers and Photons still have same power and range. the E may have more Phaser Emitters however a single emitter can fire multiple beams at the same time. The D has seen on screen as firing 3 shoots from a single emitter at separate targets at the same time. Also the D has no reason to fight the SD so close. She can stand off to 100,000 Km with phasers and 300,000 Km with photons, and still hit accurately. The only thing the SD has in its favor is how much damage it cam absorb since it is designed for short range slugfests with other capitol ships. Besides the Enterprise has a secret weapon. They can beam aboard Lwaxana Troi. Who is looking for a tall dark and shiny new husband.

This is exactly what I say. The D would have practically all the same advantages over the Stardestroyer. I grant you that the torpedoes and phasers would be a little less powerful because they are less advanced... but still, the speed and maneuverability advantages would still add up to a win. I think Vader and the Force would be problem for a lot of the crew, but you have to concentrate to use the Force and when your ship is being shot out from under you, you might not be able to do that. Also, when did Vader ever have the ability to choke out a thousand crew? If he could do that, he'd never need to board ships. He could just stay on his Stardestroyer and kill everyone from afar. The fact of the matter is that he is powerful, but not THAT powerful.

Well, not quite. Star Wars does indeed have shields, even if they're not visually shown in the movies or TV shows. There's a reason Shields or Shield generators are often referred to. Also, the range of torpedoes and the like are countered by Star Wars' infinitely better attack craft like shuttles, fighters, and bombers. I think the real determining Factor would be the tactics. The Empire proved it was horrible at counterinsurgency Warfare but capital ship to capital ship combat they excelled in. And let's be honest, Star Trek usually consists of staying shielded for 20 minutes while the main characters discuss science technobabble before coming up with a solution while the enemy conveniently only take potshots at them.

So many questions. 1) How do they detect children onboard? Star Wars sensors have trouble even detecting lifeforms on a ship (Han and co hiding in a storage compartment to avoid life form scans) let alone being able to detect number and apparent age of people onboard. 2) How does the Star Destroyer target anything as small as a torpedo tube, let alone the entire ship? Sensor issues aside, turbolasers are horrendously inaccurate. They are slow rotating turret based guns not suitable for anything other than the largest or slowest moving targets. The Enterprise is neither of those things. It has an impulse speed of 0.92C or 275,000,000 m/s (nearly light speed) while the Millennium falcon has a max sublight speed of 22,500 m/s. The Falcon was almost impossible to hit at 1/10,000 the speed the Enterprise moves at in combat. I am not even sure the ISD could ever hit the Enterprise. 2a) How are the fighters getting to the Enterprise? Tie fighters move at a max speed of 30,000 m/s or 1/9,200 the speed of the Enterprise at max impulse. 3) How is the Star Destroyer surviving the Enterprises weapons? Star Wars shields can't stop physical objects as shown time and time again in the movies and books. Photon Torpedoes are physical torpedoes. We can all argue till we are blue in the face about phasers vs turbolasers but a Photon Torpedo is only going to be competing with the ships armor. A Proton torpedo in star wars, which is a focused nuclear warhead, can puncture ISD hulls. Photon Torpedoes give roughly 64 megatons of energy vs a Proton Torpedoes 100ish Kilotons. It isn't surviving that.

Not really. The big quad Turbos are on dorsal, 4 quads to either side of the command structure. But those are not the only ones. They have dozens of single Turbos (the Quads use four of these in unison, hence the name) on the sides and underside of the ISD. Something most Trekkie neckbeards forget as well is that Turbolasers are not lasers. But Plasma cannons rather. And when most trekkie neckbeards laugh at the "short range" the ISD's show on screen you have to educate them on WHY it is presented that way. It is presented the same exact way in Trek too btw. CINIMA. It literally looks good for the show/movie. That's it, that is the whole reason. Because in the novels, yes I read both SW and ST ones and I own over a hundred all together. But in the novels ISD's use their Turbo's for planetary bombardment. And a focused one has the range of lunar orbit with a fair drop off in power but enough to damage vessels. Each Turbo has, look up the math if you want, the power of 30 gigatons of power. When used at full power, to which they usually don't because that's overkill. But they can and have before in the novels. Compared to Trek's baseline of phasers (Trek is horribly inconsistent and it hurts) which is in the ballpark of a few kilotons of power. Yes you read that right. And is formidable because of how amazingly accurate they are. Now for some big brain stuff. If Trek shields can on average in the novels, look it up, take 12-14 such phaser blasts before failing. And an ISD can, in the novels again, take about 100 of their own blasts... Who has the better shielding? I love both Trek and Wars equally. So I give them equal treatment, and ST is a beloved series. But it's made for peace, Star Wars is made for.... well it's in the name. >_

I also figure a Lightsaber works by super-heating gas entrapped between two atmosphere contaminant fields maybe set a centimeter from the aperture distorting it into a rough blade shape. With onscreen evidence of turbolasers obliterating asteroids in a single hit, we can get the general idea that a single turbolaser blast is at least as powerful as 3 photon torpedoes. Then you realize an ISD has 60 of these weapons (plus various others), all of which fire a little over one shot per second, and you're looking at over 180 photon torpedoes worth of damage PER SECOND. In other words, the first volley that connects is going to totally vaporize any Star Trek ship.

Well, technically... you're correct. The Federation doesn't build Warships. But the ships they do have have enough fire power to fuck up pure warships and even planets. Now imagine what the more combat oriented ships like the Defiant and the Enterprise-E can do.

@@JakeBaldwin1 The Defiant has Pulse Phaser Cannons. Up until the Defiant's debut on DS9, we had never seen weapons like those before. I'm willing to bet other ships/stations had 'em though, but they haven't really covered/shown them yet. These cannons on the Defiant were all forward facing. This made it so that the Defiant had to get her nose on the target to use them. But she was maneuverable enough for that to be a problem against most ships. Now I guess these cannons could be mounted on the bigger ships. And maybe they have been post DS9. I'm guessing they'd have to mount them in turret implacements on the hull. Maybe they could make them rotate so they can track targets on the bigger ships.

@@terrywest111 I like those guns a lot more than the phasers, phasers just seemed pathetic to me, no umph. For the longest time beam weapons were ruined for me by star trek, until Warhammer and the wall of guns, lasguns for life.

Star Destroyer absolutely stomp. Star Destroyers won't even feel the Enterprise's ridiculous megaton torpedoes. His shields are capable of blocking petatons, if not dozens of petatons. And this is Disney canon, in which heavy turbolasers break the cores of planets or turn their surfaces into slag, evaporating even the oceans in a short time.

How, with no way to keep up with the D at FTL speeds beyond the exit vector of this system, does the Star Destroyer keep up? The D could make hit and run pinpoint attacks on the Devastator till the cows come home with it's quick warp jumps. Do you even Trek Ben?

I think the main factor here is maneuverability, the Enterprise is much faster and more agile than a Star Destroyer, and the weapons are more accurate. The Enterprise has redundant shields like a Mon Calamari ship but with far more powerful weapons, so unless there are multiple Star Destroyers attacking at once I think this one goes to the Galaxy-class.

Why do these vids ALWAYS NOT take into account Transporters, They did learn to modulate the shields to block psi attacks, had abilities with the deflector dish (Grav wells, Tykens Rift,...), venting warp plasma, going to warp in SECONDS!!!!!!!, talk about maneuverability, AND THE FACT THAT THE ENTERPRISE WOULD HAVE SCANNED THE STAR DESTROYER ALSO AND KNOWN IT HAD NO, REPETE NO AFT WEAPONS!!! COME ON!!!

I'd imagine having your star destroyer half destroyed by antimatter warheads would anger you. I mean if a proton torpedo, a simple explosive can shake up a star destroyer, a full size antimatter warhead would be catastrophic.

@ValorJ Omega yes in star wars physical objects go through shields. they are not like trek shields that deflect asteroids. maybe the torpedo can go in but i am sure the lasers can explode a photon torpedo unless it is launched from close proximity.

@ValorJ Omega wrp speed is still several seconds out in space. to visit the nearest system 4 light years away the enterprise D travels for 24 hours at warp 9. i just checked the sources from the TNG episodes. i doubt the torpedoes are even going that fast. now consider this: the death star laser takes a couple of seconds to destroy a planet in a different solar system 4+ light years away. so clearly star wars weapons can use hyperspace which is faster than warp speed.

I'd love to see a match up between the Enterprise D or E vs. Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Chimera. While normal TIE fighters might not be of much use other than as distractions, Thrawn keeps a squadron of TIE Defenders, which with Hyperdrives, mounted warhead launchers and shields have far greater versatility, and can even replicate something similar to the Picard maneuver through the use of guided micro jumps. We see this used to great effect in the novel Thrawn: Treason, where the Defenders cripple a hostile warship by performing micro jumps to attack, then pull back before the enemy could target them, only to reappear in another location to attack again.

@@The1stImmortal actually the reason for that is purely for cinematic reasons. Aka; it looks cool. Trek does it too, look how often they do chases or flybys in a fight.

I always thought the big difference between Trek and Wars tech was in the name. The former had more advanced transportation techniques, but the latter had cooler weapons. I think a Destroyer would win if they traded fire....but I don't think they'd need to. Any ship with transporter technology has a decided advantage over one without. You could casually send a boarding crew over, or pick up the enemy officers, or the engines, or the weapons, or the inertial dampener, make holes in the hull, whatever. The only reasonable way I could see the Destroyer winning against that is if the officer they took hostage was Vader.

You have two different looks on ship usage: SW: Uses capital ships as mobile (very well armed carriers). They drop out of hyperspace, disgorge fighters, the fighters then attack the enemy. Meanwhile, the capital ships move towards each other (very heavy shields up) and begin to slug fest each other (very much like two heavyweight fighters would in a boxing ring). If one side is better (tactically) they leave with the most ships and least damage. The remaining fighters then return to the carrier and begin the next battle (at a future date). ST: The Federation takes a completely different view on space combat. Each vessel is a stand alone (very large and well manned) fighter. It has shields and weapons (very well armed for the size). D model is one of the best armed and shielded. It can take hits (unless a Klingon rigs Geordi's visor and gets the shield freq (and torpedoes then penetrate the shield like a hot knife through butter). Then D is gone. The weapons on the ST ship are more direct fire (phaser) and very long range (torpedoes). The sensors of ST ships are designed for very long range (compared to SW). SW weapons are heavy turbo lasers (not really lasers but magnetized gas formed into a bolt of gas). some say the ST shields will hold with the power of SW heavy turbo lasers. Some say they can not. Maneuverability: ST has the edge and is designed to move fast SW is a lumbering hulk (carrier armed to the teeth) This is sort of like a dragon fly attacking a whale. The Dragonfly has the weapons and can move. but, the whale has heavy weapons and a potential hit (may potentially do serious damage). I will not get into the fandboy math (of each SW or ST). That has been done far too often and too "iffy" on both sides.
