I have an Xbox that I soft modded a few years ago but it is just now starting to break. I saw this video and decided that I should fix it to play this game. When I found out how much it would cost to repair the Xbox myself, I figured it wouldn't cost more to buy a 360 and put a modchip in that. The first thing I wanted to do with the 360 was play this then I found out it is NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE. I spent a week or two asking all of my friends if they wanted to sell me their old 360, waiting for modchips to come in the mail, learning to solder, etc was all worthless because I didn't check to see if the game was compatible. There is good news though. The remastered version of Voodoo Vince is now on Steam Greenlight and will be released next year!

I loved this game and was one of very few I've finished. I still have the Xbox disc, even though I only have the One right now. Hence, why I was thrilled to hear of "Remastered" and why my daughter set a calendar reminder for next week to get it. :-) She'll finally get to see the game her mother and I played when she was a newborn. She loved the colors and music.

you forgot to mention the replayability factor on this game is actually very good, even if you've 100% every level 4 times over like I have. Even though you know where everything is and know the game by heart, you can challenge yourself to beat it at limited hearts and dust for a high caliber of gameplay. even more important then that is, like you said, the incredibly memorable music and texture. Those 2 factors on this game are so strong that those 2 in itself make the game very replayable.
@ThePreciseClimber8 жыл бұрын
> A remastered version was announced!!! Wow, a PORT of a 6th gen game? That can only end well... /sarcasm HD ports on PS3 have taught me that if something CAN go wrong, it WILL go wrong. They always fucked something up! So I actually expect Voodoo Vince HD to be pretty glitchy.
@Draekeun8 жыл бұрын
Popo Bobo That's not replayability... That's just you restricting yourself while playing it again. Replayability is when the game gives a reason to play it again built in, not the player simply changing how they will go through the game.

Yeah, the Xbox is way underrated, based on the significant price difference between Xbox games, and GCN/PS2 games. Especially considering the Xbox usually has the superior ports of the multi-platform games...
@alistair49098 жыл бұрын
Yeah compared to ps2 and gcn games which are usually about $10 the Xbox games are usually about $5 and there are some real classics in there not just badly dated fps games(syberia, panzer dragoon orta, and Rocky are some particularly good ones)

I used to play this game all the time as a kid, probably more than any game! A couple of years ago my brother got me the Remastered edition and I was worried it wouldn't be as good as I remembered, but I liked it as much as I did back then, if not more. It may not be groundbreaking, but the gameplay is incredibly solid. I think it's best quality is arguably the style and personality, that's what leaves the lasting impression I think. I honestly think it has one of the best soundtracks of any game, too! Definitely deserved the Remaster, but I really hoped it would have brought the game a lot more of the praise and attention it deserves... oh well.

A bit of history, and this is all second-hand memory (I grew up with the level designer Joe Mullenix) is that Beep was created specifically to make this game. Basically the whole team was game developers and testers from Microsoft's internal gaming division that got together to create this game. Beep was one of the companies contracted to make the first games for the new X-Box platform for its release. Voodoo Vince was in contention to be the flagship for the console, but late in the development process, Microsoft ended up going another way, and the game was finished with a skeleton crew to finish up the artwork for release, and the company dissolved upon final delivery of the game to Microsoft. There is no history of Beep that is not also the history of Voodoo Vince.

I remember the Demo of this game back on Crimson skie: High road to revenge. It was a good game but I played Voodoo Vince's demo more XD I miss when games put demos for other games in them. The other game I know that did that on Xbox (or playstation 2) was Mortal Kombat: shaolin monks with a demo of "The suffering: ties that bind". All four of the games I mentioned are fantastic (I've never truly played Voodoo vince but it looks just like how I remember, and it used to look amazing. If I ever get the chance, I'm going to play this game.
@theterrificyolo4 жыл бұрын
This is an awesome game, just finished the remaster on PC. I played the demo of this game via crimson skies, this game is so underrated to the point where it’s sad. What I personally would like to see is a sequel or maybe put Vince in smash bros. I would be able to see a lot of potential in Vinces move set in smash, plus because of that more people can play this game and hopefully a sequel can be made. The only thing that can get obscure titles like this outta the shadows is smash bros. I think what Microsoft did was a crime to put banjo kazooie in smash. But that aside I love platformers they are challenging and fun but rewarding. I really hoped after the remaster loyal fans could get some more stuff like what are the other voodoo dolls, has Kosmo always wanted the dust and what happened after the ending etc. If nostalgia wasn’t playing at hand here, you bet your ass I would still play this; I do have an attraction to niche concepts which by the way no one has nailed the concept of harming your character to hurt your enemies. Good review though and because of this game I do indeed like jazz

I have to mostly agree with this review Voodoo Vince is a great game, it’s varied, with unique level designs, fun and imaginative gimmicks, interesting setting and solid platforming. It’s a really great overlooked game with a bunch of creative ideas and fun mechanics, it deserves to be more well known and critically acclaimed.
@adroharv92137 жыл бұрын
it's definitely a unique game and about as fun as something like pyschonauts. I wouldn't say its quite brilliant in terms of gameplay merit but then very few 3d platformers ever were anyway. Extremely solid though in all it does making it definitely something I would suggest people should play. And yes as mentioned here it really is quite refreshing especially now since this genre isn't catered to any more

I've never heard of that site before, but after watching you for several years now, and having seen all of your videos, I can tell you that you would probably really enjoy this one. The gameplay is unique, the attention to detail is astounding, and I can honestly say that of all of the video games that I've ever played, "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" is easily the most fun that I've ever had playing a video game, and I've played, and own, my fair share of them. The game shouldn't cost you any more than $7 and is easy to find for the original XBOX. Give it a try, you will be glad that you did! Also, I should mention that it's available on the more recent "Rare Replay" compilation for the XBOX One, if you want to play an upscaled, HD version (it's the same game, it just looks better / sharper). Thanks for considering, and thanks for all of the work that you put into these videos. Stay cool, Kris. - Derek

Nice! That's a great price for it. I hope that you enjoy it. It takes a bit to get into, but just give it time, you will see the brilliance in it. Also, the gameplay may seem a bit repetitive, but that is the core of the game. The game developers did a great job with keeping it interesting by introducing new "rules" and challenges. Have fun playing through it, and feel free to consult me if you have any trouble or get stuck at any point. - Derek

I'll be honest I have mixed feelings about this game I have just played the remastered version . I know alot of people who are super hyped about this game played it originally when it came out so alot of nostalgia is in the air. so here's my take on it . this is the first time I have ever played it and as a platformer it's solid it has your comedic relief, your insane jumps, and your corky/goofy boss fights/ zany characters so all in all you have the perfect formula for a decent platformer and that it delivers the game is enjoyable especially in the beginning and most of the way through however every game has it's faults. now if you have memories with this game it may make it easier to look past or not even notice. To me as awesome as this game started by the end of it I was honestly glad it was over because truthfully I was kinda getting tired of playing it. example the I can see where the developers were going with the last level grand finale and all but the whole carnival level and final boss fight were tedious and a chore tbh. especially considering how you breeze through and pretty much shit on every other level /boss fight. it just seemed like they were trying too hard. I mean the difficulty spikes a bit but it's not insane or undoable it's definitely within reason it's just I don't know how to explain it you'll just have to see for yourself it's definitely worth a playthrough and the graphics on the remastered are beautiful you won't be disappointed so it isn't a waste or anything it is a worthy title to add to your collection by all means it just isn't the end all save all Holy Grail of platformers unless you have the nostalgia or memories to make it such ,I guess is a good way to put it I hope this review is helpful I tried to be as fair as possible looking at both pros and cons.
