Hugely helpful man. I tried this workflow years ago and abandoned it because of not knowing about the flatten tracks issue for materials. gamechanger, thanks for this

Glad it helped! I spent years thinking there was no other way and dealing with hack workarounds.

This is super useful! Thank you! I’m really curious if it’s possible to create the same (or similar) animation in Unreal. Do you know if there’s a way to bend/deform the mesh using splines in unreal? (like the way you have the petal bending and unfolding using a spline wrap)

I am working on a few different ways of stacking pieces to build it in Unreal. There are a number of ways to rebuild it in Unreal, but none of them are simple and I need to build something to start from in C4D or Blender.

Cool Video! Have you tried importing softbodies? I tried it and had a lot of mess with multiple balls intertwined with each other.

I have not tried it yet.

when I import alembic there too many material slots. for example with your flower, I set 4 meterials but when I imported, there's 100 of material slots(material slot for each leaf of flower) Any help?
@cartandhorse Жыл бұрын
The first thing I would try, would be to put your entire model (for me it was the flower) into an empty Null in C4D, then put that null inside of a Connect object. You will want to turn off "weld" and "high quality", then try exporting that connect and all of its children. If you are using 1 material for the whole model, try applying the material higher up in the chain. Maybe apply it to the Connect object or parent null? Hopefully any combination of those may help reduce the amount of material tags. If I had to guess, C4D is exporting a material assignment per clone? Best of luck!

@@cartandhorse yeah that did it, I was animating some blinds for a archviz projekt and I exportet several "windows" in one alembic and at first I got a material element for every little detail so it was literally hundreds of materials, but with a null in a connect object now i got 5 which is perfect. Thanks man!

my life has been dominated by this today i tried uncehckking that but its still not working :( i have a character with several materials and only one material comes through.
@cartandhorse Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Have you tried importing the alembic into c4d to check that the materials are there? I would also suggest to double check the export settings in c4d. Outside of that, I haven't encountered the materials not importing correctly.
