Mastercam needs a better tool database for speeds and feeds. Something where you can define every possible setting for every toolpath and every material when you edot the tool so you can set it up once and just create a machine group, choose the material you cut, create a toolpath, add the geometry, choose the tool and the correct speeds, feeds and coolant will be automatically picked from the database. That would be infinitely better than the current one and also, with a high probability, get more people to jump ship towards Mastercam.

Check out the Mastercam Tech Exchange. community.mastercam.com/techexchange (login required). It isn't possible to create a 100% universal tool database with all options pre-set, but several on there are great starting points or can save you some time getting started. From there, it will take time to fill everything out for your machines and your shop. It will be time well spent, especially for the more commonly used tools.

I don't see the point of the PDF import. Maybe like where I work, they used to not have Solidworks, and have very old blueprints. But they are large prints. So can I scan a 3-foot print into sections and splice it, save it as a 3-page pdf and import it into Mastercam? I'm not sure this is a help. Maybe I am just short-sided here. I do really like Mastercam. I think is one of the better cam software out there. I also really like you guys MLC Cad. You do good work.

I believe this workflow isn't going to work for everyone, but it was voted the most popular at our recent webinar. I imagine job shops getting PDF prints with no models, and instead of having the drawing with dimensions and tolerances on your desk or on a separate monitor, having them overlaid on or under your geometry as you work would make it easier to reference. Plus, if the PDF was exported from CAD, it should have selectable geometry which is perfect to use for part or toolpath creation or hole location. Some of this functionality is possible in Mastercam 2022, but there are a lot of enhancements including the ability to import annotations and select wireframe geometry from the PDF.
